A massive hound that somewhat resembles a bear, Maelgwn, for a canine, is a formidable creature. Covered in a thick coat of fur, this gembound has long hair in shades of brown that fade from a deep earthy tone to a sandy tan. His muzzle and face are masked in the dark brown, highlighting his golden eyes that resemble his stone.

This gembound's stone is a raw chunk of Tiger's Eye that rests where the dog's prosternum would be, protruding beyond the skin. The breastbone stone can be felt beneath the fur, should one dare to pat the dog on his chest.

Maelgwn is, first and foremost, driven by instinct. His drive to protect and defend any creature he deems worthy is powerful; typically this extends to gembounds smaller than him, but any gembound in need is potentially "worthy". Aside from this, the hound is mostly aloof towards strangers, the strong-and-silent type. Emotions--both his own and others'--are something he does not have much of an interest in understanding.

Maelgwn does not consider himself to be the smartest or most clever creature ever, usually relying on his strength and sheer force of will to power through things. This may give him the reputation of being a bull-headed brute, but as long as the job gets done, the dog doesn't particularly care about others' opinions of him.

Although he is not the most emotionally available creature, once Maelgwn gets close to someone, he is devoted and exceptionally loyal to a fault. He does not trust easily, so once someone earns it, they have a guardian for life.
