Appearance

For a male of his species, Prata is somewhat small--indeed, he would be classified as transgender if the word had any meaning in a world where creatures determine without question their own genders from birth. That said, maine coons are quite large cats, and despite everything he will still grow into quite a hulking beast of a tomcat at 15 inches tall at the shoulder.

His face is squared like a wildcat's, and while it will not be as noticeable as a kitten, he will quickly grow into a fiercer, more wideset and lion-like expression to go along with his massive form.

Across his long dark brown coat are thick black stripes, hardly masking the white of his chest and belly. His ears are tufted in classic maine coon fashion, adding to his fierce look.

His gem is a violet sapphire, replacing his left eye and optic nerves. He is blind in this eye from birth, giving him poor depth perception unless he finds a way to use his magic to see through it when he is older.

Prata is a lover, not a fighter. He's a dreamer, a playful flirt, and a general romantic. He is a warm-hearted boy, but deep inside his soft exterior is a sturdy, adaptable core. His heart may be permeable, but it is resilient.

Though he seems to be better at hiding it as an adult, Prata never really grew out of his kittenish curiosity. He is deeply interested in learning about things other gembounds don't know about and aren't generally bothered by--where did they all come from, what lies beyond the caves? He learns to suppress these questions as he learns they are not easily answered by other gembounds around him, but they are with him always, and he is not one to pass up an opportunity to learn more.

Though he is generally friendly, gentle and kindhearted, Prata does have a bit of an... extreme view of justice. Prata has no mercy for those who have wronged him or his loved ones, or those he deems to be innocent. He may end up spending an unhealthy amount of time pining after a violence he deems to be justice. A bit ironic, considering his father Rohan's laid-back disposition. Prata wants only to maintain the peace, and cannot understand why culling those who do not care for the lives of others would make him a bad person in any way. In that, he is a bit of an egoist, putting his own interpretations and desires before the needs of others. It is not uncommon to see Prata nosing in on others' business if he suspects an innocent gembound is being taken advantage of or hurt in any way.

Living with Rohan and Leon for so long has eased much Prata's anxiety, and he is now a generally bouncy, talkative cat. He still has some chronic mood swings that can swing him back and forth from his usual energetic self to a slower, less-motivated and more depressed gembound, but he is used to them now, and his dramatic outbursts are easier for him to control.

History

cycle 1 - hatched in polaris, met tukluk the monkey, tacitus the owl, and (briefly, seconds after birth) hael the cat.
met bartos the norwegian forest cat investigating some rocks (as it is) and, shortly after, discovered golems in polaris for the first time. narrowly escaped being smashed by them, but bartos didn't seem entirely keen on keeping a kitten around, so prata moved on.

cycle 2 - discovered by rohan the wolf and his brother leon the bear whilst they were exploring the caves. prata's lonesome state pressed rohan to adopt him as his own son, and they henceforth began travelling together as a weird little bro-family.

cycle 3 - experiences his first major mood swing, suddenly changing from a bouncy, energetic kitten to a low-energy, unmotivated, sullen adolescent. he does not know why this happens, but it makes him very irritable and frightened as well. he worries he is sick, or doomed.

cycle 4 - shortly into his fourth cycle, prata returns back to his usual chipper and curious self, and when the mood lasts, he eventually forgets to worry about his bad feelings returning. he's a bright, gentle and curious adult--his father has done well to raise him.

cycle 5 - the low mood returns halfway into his fifth cycle. prata is ashamed to appear so ungrateful and do so little for his family; he barely eats unless it is put right in front of him, he regularly stays behind just to sleep.

cycle 6 - when he finally regains his energy, it is halfway into his sixth cycle, and he feels as if he has come out from living underwater.

like all cats, prata's bite is especially prone to causing bacterial infections. if the wound is not cleaned quickly after the fact, the bacteria in prata's mouth from feeding exclusively on raw prey has the possibility to cause a variety of nasty infections.
on a roll of barely successful to inflict a wound, prata's bite will sting and become mildly inflamed if not sterilized, but will not carry any more serious bacteria.

on a successful roll, prata's bite inflicts pasteurella bacteria into the wound of his foe. this bacteria can cause a variety of issues, notably for avian species, in which it can cause "fowl cholera". in other species, if the wound is not cleaned thoroughly within 1-2 hours of receiving it, victim quickly develops subcutaneous tissue disease, a rapidly developing infection that causes moderate to very high fever, vomiting, headache, and diarrhea.

fauna cleanse will stop the disease from progressing, and the body will then heal itself at a normal rate. if left untreated, the disease may progress to infectious arthritis, bone inflammation, or chronic pain mimicking the infection that does not subside and flares up with irritation to the wound site.

on a roll of 19 or higher, a die will be rolled to determine what kind of bacteria is released into the receiver's bloodstream. on a critical success, a character who has been bitten must sterilize the wound in some way (not just rinse the surface with water) within fifteen minutes (ic, use your own judgement as to the passing of time) to avoid being infected, unless they use a fauna cleanse.
