Bounce! - Star - May 06 2023

Star had bounced her way to Polaris. Here there was definitely less... stuff. In Hydra there had been sand dunes, and more sand dunes! It brought variety to the landscape at least. But here it was just flat rock. But she had to admit, it was much easier to be doing bouncing on rock compared to sand. Though she wished there were some outcroppings that she could jump off of. How she hasn't broken a leg yet I don't know.

And she was grown now, and much better at bouncing! Her wings had developed allowing her to gain more height for each bounce, as well as not always needing to jump off of something to do so. Though it was really more like flying then letting herself fall.

As time had passed, Star never really found a way to wear off her energy completely. She was always as hyper as ever! And now the kori bustard could be seen running laps at the edge of the river, nearly slipping over the edge a few times but always managing to catch herself.

RE: Bounce! - Alek - May 06 2023

Since Polaris was only one cave away from Orion, Alek traveled there often. It helped that he had discovered a river within which he enjoyed lurking. As he lurked, he noticed a figure nearby. It looked somewhat like prey, but it was not a lesser so it was not prey. A shame. Alek liked dragging lessers into the water.

Many purple eyes observed the avian gembound. He began to swim closer to the bird, trying to practice stealth as he did so. Just because he wasn't actually hunting this being didn't mean he couldn't practice.

And so the draconic child swam closer and closer, his aquatic adaptions keeping his movements quiet. But the closer he got, the more his predatory instincts reared up.

He very much wanted to drag this bird into the water. But, instead, when the bird next was close to border of the river, he swished his tail hard and swept water in the direction of the bird. He grinned with sharp teeth, his eyes blinking one by one.

For now, that would have to be enough.

RE: Bounce! - Star - May 07 2023

Star did not notice Alek sneaking up on her. Though she was quite bad at noticing things in general really. She continued to run! And jump! And bou- "AHHHHHHHH!" a HUGE wave of water splashed over her. It really wasn't that big, but she was but a small bird, and had never felt such a sensation before! In fact, she had never gotten wet. Star tended to stay in drier caves because those also tended to be more fun to run around so rain wasn't something she had experienced either.

The water had come from the direction of the river. Star turned to look at what being could have possibly caused this, and her eyes landed on Alek. "NO WAY!" though this was said in an excited rather than frightened tone despite how scary the dragon looked. "HELLO!" she bounced up close to the edge of the river, having absolutely no self preservation skills whatsoever. At the distance she could probably be eaten rather easily. The bird managed to keep her balance perched at the absolute edge of the shore, looking at the gembound in the river.

"I AM STAR! YOU ARE A STAR-FRIEND?"

RE: Bounce! - Alek - May 07 2023

The shout as the splash hit his target was a victory in its own right. As the bird searched the river and found him, she gave a surprising response. Not frightened in the least, this avian sounded downright excitement. Many baffled eyes blinked at the bird.

"Hello..." He greeted back, bafflement in his tone. Like his parent, Alek had a rather musical voice, though it was notably masculine compared to Cadenza's own voice. He stared at the bird, trying to figure out what exactly this bird was trying here. Surely, this had to be a trick.

Alek couldn't really discern whether or not this was serious or not, so instead he turned to mischief. No way was he giving his name to this weird bird. "I am a star-friend," He said, seemingly agreeable. Technically it was true, but he was thinking of his current home, Orion, often called the cave of stars.

"But, am I your star friend? That is the question." Purple eyes sparkled with playfulness.

RE: Bounce! - Star - May 08 2023

Star heard the confusion in his musical voice, which she found rather satisfying to listen to. However it was not the same as the voice of Connie, her good friend. The 'hello' in response sent her into a frenzy again, flapping her wings (though they could not bring her flight in this state) and running in a small circle.

"YAYYYY STAR-FRIEND IS FRIEND!" she exclaimed at Alek's confirmation that he was, indeed, a star-friend. However this quickly turned into confusion when he posed a question right after. "Star-friend that is not Star's friend..." The kori bustard hopped in place, head tilting from side to side as she pondered the question like that of a chicken investigating something interesting. And this was all made even more confusing especially since Star had either never been to Orion or hadn't paid attention to the sky. Look, as a bird that really wasn't that good at flying, she had no reason to look up. So Star did not know what stars were.

"Star-friend has met another Star? Star wants to meet Star-friend's Star! Then Star and Star-friend's Star become Star-friend's-Star's-Star-friend!" It seemed she had come to a conclusion in some sort of convoluted way that probably didn't make much sense to anyone except herself. Yeah, this was bound to be a mind boggler though if you think about it enough it could probably be deciphered. However the bird didn't seem to realize that what she said was probably incredibly confusing. She was just happy about the discovery of another Star.

RE: Bounce! - Alek - May 08 2023

Purple eyes blinked in a baffled, out of order, manner. Except, of course, for the one eye that not an eye but instead purple amethyst. Honestly, there was no way the bird could be faking the sheer amount of peculiarity that Alek was witnessing here.

His head hurt from the avian's logic. It seemed he had been defeated in the game of words. His gaze narrowed thoughtfully. Responding verbally to this would take more effort than even Alek could manage.

So, trying to hide his intentions, Alek prepared to do something else entirely. It seemed, though he could not gauge intentions for the life of him, Alek was good at sneakiness.

And so, sudden and quick, another splash of water was tossed towards the bird.

If it came down to a water fight, Alek would definitely win that.

RE: Bounce! - Star - May 09 2023

Star felt the need to fill up the silence that was left in the wake of her words with more noise, but as she opened her beak to clarify what she was talking about, the bird was soaked once more. Well, Alek had confirmed that he was her friend. So splashing each other with water must be something friends did!

She did not think very hard about what she was doing before quickly concluding the way to better show her friendship was to jump into the water to join her friend. And so she did. With a running start, Star launched herself off the edge of the shore and into the water. "STAR JOIN STAR-FRIEND. STAR COMINGGGGG!"

RE: Bounce! - Alek - May 10 2023

The bird was coming at him. Repeat, the bird was coming at him. This headache-inducing nightmare of a bird was rushing right at his safety in the water. What had Alek done to deserve this? ...Other than splash the bird. Twice.

Alek was not letting this be his fault. No, this weird avian was entirely at fault. Could she even swim? If she drowned on Alek's watch would he be responsible? ...Could he get away with drowning her himself?

Maybe, absolutely not, and perhaps but also parental disappointment in either of his parents found out. Disappointment was gross and annoying-

Wait. He was at the edge of the water nearest to the bird. The bird was jumping off that edge. What were the chances that he was about to be hit? ...High probably considering his luck today.

Time to try to dodge the bird flinging herself at him. And... mostly succeed, probably.

RE: Bounce! - Star - May 11 2023

Star had attempted to land on Alek, mostly because that was the best way to greet a friend and also because she couldn't swim. Did she plan for what to do if she missed? No. And that was her first mistake. Although she had already made a countless number of mistakes so it probably wasn't even her first. Anyway.

The bird just landed straight into the water. And started sinking. "STAR IS! HERE! TO JOIN! STAR-FRIEND!" but the moment she managed to get those words out, Star had sunk underwater, wings beating rapidly in an attempt to surface. The current was strong, and birds were also just not meant to swim.

@Alek

RE: Bounce! - Alek - May 13 2023

As it turned out, the bird could not swim. He paused as the bird called out before sinking into the water. If she was that determined, she was probably well-meaning even if she was the cause of his headaches.

...His parents would be disappointed if he let her drown while she was earnestly attempting to be his friend.

With a sigh, Alek stretched out a wing under the bird to sort of scoop her up and then lifted the limb up so the bird was above water. He stretched his wing out far enough that the bird could climb back onto land, too.

Alek was tempted to question her logic in jumping in after him, but he had a feeling it would cause an even worse headache. Why was it that he every time he tried to win against this bird in one matter or another, the avian did something completely unpredictable?

"Don't jump into water if you can't swim," He reluctantly advised. Or, he mentally added, at least don't jump into water if she couldn't swim while Alek was around and could be held accountable for her drowning.
