I fight, I provide - Zephiran - Apr 09 2025

The wind followed him no further. At the mouth of the cavern, from the tunnel he emerged from, the wind gave a final sigh before it faded.

Zephiran stepped forward, silvered fur caught a glimpse of the dim light that flickers between the cracks under him. Reflection bounced off the pieces of his necklace. His paws brushed against the ancient ground.

Aquamarine eyes scanned the open room. The ceiling stretched above like the night sky. Scattered with glistening quartz, shimmering like frozen starlights.

He stopped only for a second, gazing up to the bright sky. Watching as the quartz flickered. Silence filled the air.

The canine pup would turn his head to face the ground that sloped downwards. Like a sunken valley. Its sides were wrapped with jagged edges. Yet calmly, he moved forward. His paws brushed against the ancient dust. Padding quietly, purposely taking steps to stay far away from any spires.

Crumbled ruins lay around him, bones of something that once used to live here. Some structures still stood in defiance. While the others collapsed to nothing but remnants of what was. But nothing this pup could understand. If only he could understand what happened.

Zephiran adjusted his eyes, trying to call for the power he was born with. Trying to light a small dark corner of one of the ruins. To take a peak. To see if anything was waiting. All he could hear was the pounding of his own heart.

The power was a success, lighting a small but formed laser. Guiding with his paw, he peeked. Watching with cautiousness but curiosity ticked his ears. There was a bit of exhaustion that hit his muscles as he directed the harmless laser.

Crumbled ruins laid around him. Belvadair had found and searched for these larger rocks to rest next to. Amber eye focused on the downslope of the valley among the cavern. He had just snacked on the small snack of a mouse he saw scrambling in the tunnels..

CLICK CLACK.

The sounds of another clicking caught his attention. It was coming closer. The opposing pup cowered behind some of the ruins in the valley.

His mask popped out the sides as he waited, watching. The silvered pup had come close to where he was. Searching among the ruins, yet Belvadair remained silent. Watching with his good eye. His gem one well rested.

Hackles of his neck rose. Silence twitched around them. It seemed he was digging. Rather looking for something. Belvadair was keen on watching how the others' opposing power worked. Like a flashlight..

As Zephiran picked his way through Orion's ruins, the change around him would become apparent only suddenly, unless he were very perceptive: the ground around him was, and had been for the last minute or so, charred black with fire.

Most of these ruins were ancient; what had destroyed them was wind, water, time.

But this portion had been damaged on top of the rest: a fire had raged, something imbued with pure and ferocious elemental magic--something beyond the abilities of your typical Gembound. A monster had raged here. The ruins here, then, were even more derelict: collapse atop collapse, ash piled in among dust.

It had exposed something, too: something that had thus far gone unnoticed, it seemed, at least by other scavengers. Within the nearest ruin, a hidden stair had led down into a cellar... or more than a cellar; it was a dark, damp hole in the stone. The rock that had long hidden it had been crushed into pebbles as the roof had collapsed in the fire.

The stone beneath was less worn, only freshly revealed. Anything could lay below, but the passage downward was narrow and dark.

The ruins were different. Most were ancient. Destroyed over time. Weighed down by water and shoved with wind. But the portion Zephiran had found.

It was different. This was different.

Once upon a time fire had enraged. Something beyond what he knew. Ash piled on top of the ruins nearby. In which the silvered pup would shoo the ash away with his paws. Gently and carefully.

Upon moving stuff around he spotted it. A small hidden opening. Between some of the pebbles and ash that resided, a small opening. The wolf scrambled, using his paws, letting his necklace move freely with subsiding the ash. Well what would a cave in here lead to? Zephiran was more than curious to see. Yet every paw was placed carefully.

Trying to free rocks and pebbles free. To see what entrance could appear more clearly. The prism of light had disappeared as he begun his digging and moving.

Calmly and quietly the darker pup laid beside the crumbled ruins. His good eye never once dared to leave what little he could see. The silvered pup moved with haste to move some things around. Yet he struggled. One weight was not enough. Let alone something of their size.

For a moment he resided in silence, remaining unnoticed by the other pup digging about. And at that time he considered leaving. Avoiding what could happen. A soft slash of his tail, he emerged from the darkness of the corner he hid in.

Approaching the silvered male pup in a calm manner. Ears flickered in annoyance.

“What are you doing? Making so much noise?"

Belvadair just had to know. If it was worth his time, or if he'd find some other poor creature to speak to. Even the trinket Zephiran wore caught his eye however.

The silvered pup stopped what he was doing, at this point he had shoved so much ash around. Zephiran let out a pitiful sneeze. Before reopening his eyes to the opposing wolf before him.

Darkness in color, but a golden hue on his back. Yet he carried a mask on his face. One eye remained closed. A tilt of his head. How long was he there?

Is it okay to tell him? Surely it is? Right. Even with Wilder’s warning of being careful of danger. This pup before him, was a mere wolf. Like him.

"I wanna move this stuff around, I see something under here."

His tone was rather polite. A smile appeared on his jaws as he pointed with his paw. When he stretched his paw out, a small beam of light emerged, showing off a small section of what appeared to be a staircase downwards. Proof of there was more down there.

"Look! I think I can feel a thing to crawl into here. But I need more room. What are you doing?"

Zephiran didn't have any hint of aggression whatsoever. Even if the pup was spooked by the sudden emerge of another. Surely they wouldn't harm him.

A pitiful sneeze to.. his face. Only caused his ears to pin behind his skull. The pup itself was pulling near a small entry. A hidden one. His lighter chest stood out to the smoky quartz he had wrapped around his neck. Upon the light that shone out the other's paw. Belvadair could see a glimpse of darkness. And what appeared to be stairs.

But nothing further.

"Let's move this one. I.. think if we move it enough we might have enough room."

Belvadair went to paw step his way to one of the medium stone atop of the hidden entrance. But his idea isn't as kind. No, instead of being kind for good. Belvadair wanted to see what laid under something so hidden. Surely.. something magical.

Maybe something that could tell them more about what put this place into ruin. A swift curl of his tail. Moving the stone might give them enough clearance. Enough to see what's down there.

Belvadair would stand next to the stone, waiting to see what the silvered pup thought about it. Putting his front paws up, he began to use what little might he could to begin pushing. Just barely was he able to scrape it against the ground to push it.

"Oh!! Let's try to move it!"

Zephiran hopped up near the stones, next to the darker wolf. Putting his paws up to try and help wiggle the stone just a bit. It was barely successful between both pups. They managed to push the stone, only a bit. Sliding it back. Exposing a bit more of an opening. It was a staircase indeed. One that went downwind. It was dark. Nothing could be seen with the naked eye.

Between the both pups, they both stepped backwards to the top of the stairs. Zephiran exchanged looks to the darker male. Before gazing back to the dark abyss.

"I'm Zephiran! Why don't you come with me? I might be able to guide us through the tunnels."

Zephiran cocked his head, putting one paw down on the steps. Squeezing his head down low to the narrow steps. Only a paw or two to see if the other would follow close behind him. To see what laid down here? Surely they wanted more information too. About this place. This ruin. There's just got to be more information down here.

The stone screeched against the hidden entrance. Emerging enough for the first pup to slip through. Turning around, waiting for him to join. An invitation of words…

"Belvadair."

The masked pup would introduce himself, putting himself close to the ground to crawl to the entrance. Met with a steep staircase in which that leads downwards. Zephiran, that was the pups name. An odd thing to name yourself. Perhaps it was something someone called him. But he didn't say anything about it.

"It's going to get dark real quick."

Belvadair mentioned with a mutter, ears pinned backwards. Following obediently behind the other curious pup. Each step was careful, trying to feel for the ground he couldn't see. Belvadair relied on the bright glowing necklace of the other to see the steps downwards.

Both the pups began their steps down. One bold, one in the back cowering.

The dark below was chokingly stale. It was filled with dust, musty, undisturbed but for the occasional bug for... centuries, by the look and smell of things. The stone stairs were narrow, and were either of the pups particularly observant, there was something else to take note of.

While the ruins outside were ancient and worn, there was still a clear craftsmanship to them. They had been built, either carved from stone or made of stone bricks set one atop the other, with experience and a trained eye.

This stairwell was... not like that. It was uneven, its 'brick' hewn roughly from rock and set in a way that suggested imitation, not training. Here and there a stone had been kicked free and either not replaced, or instead filled with packed earth.

The cellar beyond was much the same. It would require either light to see by--magical or not--or feeling around "by hand," as it were. But it, too, had been roughly dug and shored up with whatever scrap rock the digger had found available, uneven and somewhat clumsy. Still, it remained, still standing.

The pups may find either a light source, or may roll to see what they 'feel' while exploring the little cellar.
