dynamic particles - Ghanyarah - Dec 31 2015 For @Nova ! Training thread! He led them in silence, though desperately wanting to grill the dog for more information about herself, he refrained. The last thing he wanted was to scare her off with being too nosy. Besides, mentors were supposed to be cool, reserved, mysterious. That's what Ghanyarah wanted to be despite his overwhelming curiosity about her. So he said nothing, weaving through the trees while quietly rolling over his game plan. He had to learn how she had changed the temperature of the air. It was the ideal spell, turning a room into his comfort - even though it slowed his muscles, it was where he felt most at home. He relished the vulnerability, knowing that even exposed, with the cold air he was stronger. Even when it chilled his bones, he was more powerful, and he would make that sacrifice for the assurrence of a more precise strike. He was determined to achieve that level of mastery. Strong enough to rival Dragon, and the warriors that fought Raheerah, maybe even Raheerah himself... And strong enough to destroy that stupid white dog. It felt obvious to him that he was using this as an excuse to hone his own prowess, but she didn't need to know that. They reached the tree where he made his home before long - the images of his friends scratched into the bark stood out against the dark colour of its external layer. The remains of the morganite chrysalis previously host to his son lay cradled in its upturned roots, and the spot where Ghanyarah usually sat on the low hanging limb looked worn and pale. He didn't spare a second glance at the tree. Instead, the reptile turned to face his companion, looking her over completely. "This is where we will do most of our training. We may also go down to the Heart, or the crags. If you are strong enough, maybe you will even meet Aquarian. But only those powerful enough to withstand his excrutiating glare will ever know him." Ghanyarah said pointedly, trying to describe Aquarian to be as mythical and frightening as he could. Now that he thought about it, it made him feel kind of special to have it in with Aquarian, the ancient swamp serpent. Dragon knew more about him than Ghanyarah, but they had jointly decided that they were both his sons. That had to speak for something, right? RE: dynamic particles - Nova - Dec 31 2015
@Ghanyarah RE: dynamic particles - Ghanyarah - Jan 04 2016 He looked at her pensively before giving a nod of certainty. "Yes. That is your magic. You will practice how to do those things with precision and great power. But first you need to learn how to master your magic. It will be difficult, as magic it hard to grasp and understand, and it can easily escape you." Ghanyarah took a look around the clearing to see if there were examples of his escaped power, but whatever remained of his wild spells had long since melted away. Spears of ice never lasted long in the humid, wet atmosphere of the swamp, where the compressed water droplets of the air melted anything colder than the ambient temperature. "What you will be learning to do first is control it. And then we will spar, and this will teach you to use your magic under pressure, in situations where you must think quickly." In the meantime, Ghanyarah could sit back and observe the dog as she tried her magic, and he could practice alongside her. Then again... he didn't really want her to see if he lost control of his own. "You will be powerful enough to defend yourself and your friends, and destroy any who stand in your path. Tell me, do you have someone you want to protect?" He asked, staring curiously at her. @Nova RE: dynamic particles - Nova - Jan 04 2016
@Ghanyarah RE: dynamic particles - Ghanyarah - Jan 04 2016 So it was that she did have another Gembound she strived to protect. Ghanyarah had hoped for as much; it gave her a purpose, a real reason to train her magic and become stronger. There was intent there behind her learnings and Ghanyarah would use that to his advantage. It didn't seem like he'd have to try too hard, for she admitted herself that the one she wanted to protect, Thistle, wasn't physically strong and could hardly protect herself against a threat. He nodded, accepting this answer. Good. They had a motivation. "Show me everything you know." The reptile said simply and stood back, angling himself towards the open clearing that yawned all around them. He needed to know the extent of her capabilities, first and foremost. @Nova RE: dynamic particles - Nova - Jan 04 2016

@Ghanyarah RE: dynamic particles - Ghanyarah - Jan 08 2016 Ghanyarah stepped aside and allowed her to demonstrate her skills. He had already seen what she could do, but he wanted to know what she was capable of now that she really had to prove it to someone. He was testing her, and there might be repercussions if she failed. Not that Ghanyarah would punish her, but did she really want to fail? Would she want to disappoint him, and most importantly, would she want to disappoint Thistle? The reptile huffed and waited, watching, until a nearby stump had suddenly and unexpectedly exploded. The viciousness of the sudden explosion caused Ghanyarah to jump, extending his limbs so that his body hovered high above the mud with alertness. "Excellent!" He hissed, watching the shards of bark scatter across the swamp floor. Next, she seemed to focus. In that instant, the air changed. Not like she changed it the first time. It was getting hotter, both uncomfortable and soothing for his bones, but the snow was beginning to fade away into wet, muddy puddles. He frowned and peered at the mud puddles, then back to her. She was just standing there, but he could tell she was focusing. And then the temperature changed, dropping drastically. The cold returned, chasing the smothering humidity and replacing the wetness in the atmosphere with frosty flakes. He grinned, bobbing his head with pride. Focus. That was what he'd have to do. Reach out into the air - not the water, but the air. "Wonderful! You have the makings of a powerful mage." Ghanyarah looked at her with a flick of his tail. "Tell me, when you exploded the stump, did you focus on it or just send your magic out? How far away can you explode things like that?" He asked, eyes widened, until the lightbulb suddenly lit up in his head. "I have an idea." The komodo bounded away, launching himself into the trees. He wove through them, disappearing into the underbrush, until he was a good distance from the clearing. "TRY TO EXPLODE THIS THING!" Ghanyarah called, and then grabbed another fallen branch between his teeth. He tossed it up into the air and covered his head, preparing for another explosion of wood splinters. @Nova RE: dynamic particles - Nova - Jan 08 2016
