A Slippery Adventure - Comet - Aug 26 2020

Comet
Arctic Wolf
Comet laid down beside one of the many pools of water. The walk here wasn't long, but her headache and weak legs made it that much harder. She lapped up the cold water, which helped clear her head. The headache was almost completely gone now, and she felt more energetic.

Comet knew that Pisces had a lot of water, but not this much water. It was everywhere. Waterfall, ponds, and if that weren't enough, slick water covered rocks. This was a dangerous place for Mayfal, as she could easily lose her balance and drown. Comet had to make sure that didn't happen.

Pisces was cold. Not so cold that it was unbearable, but noticeably not warm. It was loud, too. The sound of water crashing almost drowned out the sound of Comet lapping up more water.

Good. There was plenty of water here. Far more than there was in Polaris.

"Are you feeling better?" Mayfal didn't realize how scared they were until they heard it in their voice. They didn't try to cover it up. They just wanted Comet to be okay.

Comet could hear the tone of their voice. They were scared, about her. She knew that it meant a lot coming from Mayfal, who was usually more reserved about their emotions. She knew that if the situation were reversed, she would have felt the same. "Yes, I think I'll be okay. Thank you so much, Mayfal. You saved my life." Comet meant it. She would not have gotten out of there if it weren't for Mayfal, who put themselves in danger to help her. "Would you be able to promise me something, Mayfal?" she paused, "Don't put yourself in danger to help me. I would not be able to bear it if something happened to you."

Mayfal didn't save her life. They were sure Comet would have figured out a way to save herself. Mayfal was just a catalyst. Still, it felt nice to be recognized and thanked. Mayfal decided not to address it.

Instead, Mayfal thought about the promise Comet wanted them to keep. Never be in danger? They were blind.

"I'm always in danger, though." No matter where they would go, they would always have this major vulnerability that could betray them at any time. "You can't be responsible for my safety on top of your own. Not constantly anyway."

The sentiment was harsh, but it was also true. And it would help her in the long run. If something actually did happen to Mayfal, and Comet really couldn't bear it, how well would that end? Mayfal didn't want to think of it. They wanted to change the subject.

"So...this is Pisces?"

Comet brooded over their words. Yes, it was true, they were blind, and blindness was something that came with an immense amount of risks. She felt the urge to move in to Mayfal's house immediately and live there with them. But she was just being too protective, and she had to stay with her family in Orion anyway. They were right, she couldn't constantly be responsible for their safety all the time, but that wouldn't stop her from trying. She didn't say that though, because Mayfal would protest.

She was relieved for the subject change. "Yep! This is Pisces all right. My first time here as well so I won't be of much guidance. You may want to be careful, the rocks here are really slippery. Oh, I should probably do some describing. Well, there is a waterfall that falls into... emptiness. A place with many ponds, some nice mossy hills, and on the sides are some ledges that look climbable. Not recommended to climb them though. Everything here is just so wet." Comet thought that being in a place with so much water would make her feel at home, but it was like this water different. And she didn't like it.

A very wet place. They could feel dew lining their fur already.

As much as they liked a nice pool, this was another level for Mayfal. An intense and uncomfortable level. They contemplated Comet's description of Pisces. Mossy hills sounded nice; Ledges, especially slippery ones, did not. Many with sight fear heights. Every blind creature finds unnatural height terrifying. The feeling of imminent doom lingers and is paired with the fact that they are completely helpless in the air. Mayfal would not be climbing those ledges any time soon.

They were a little confused by some of Comet's description, though. "What do you mean by 'falls into emptiness'? Surely the water has to go somewhere."

To be truthful, Comet herself didn't know what she meant be it falling into emptiness. Because that surely couldn't be possible. It had to end somewhere, didn't it? "Well, it just looks like it goes nowhere, but it probably does go somewhere, it's just really, really, deep down. She wondered if she could sense how far the water went.
She cast out her senses, at this spell was easier to do than ever, since she had been hard at work on practicing. Even though she extended it super far, even her senses were not able to tell how far down the waterfall went. "It must be really far. I could not sense the end." That was a scary thought. What if you fell down? You would be falling... forever. "Let's go check out the pools of water. I bet there are yummy stuff in them."

@Mayfal

A depth that even magic didn't know. And they were already at a height above this depth. There was room to fall, but Mayfal couldn't see the holes in the ground. Were there holes in the ground? How was this place able to support it's own weight if nothingness was underneath it.

Mayfal was starting to feel nauseous. Maybe hunting and eating would take their mind off the subject for a while.

"Yeah. Let's do that. Can I hold your tail, though? Since I've never been here before."

They didn't want to sound scared so they came up with an excuse rather quickly. And, if there were holes in the floor, Mayfal would be able to hold on to something if they took a wrong step. They didn't weigh much, so they probably wouldn't bring Comet down with them. No, she would be strong enough to pull Mayfal back up.

"Sure." Comet wouldn't want to wander around this place blind either. The risk of getting hurt was exceptionally high. Once she felt the familiar mouth on her tail, she started slowly leading them to the pools, walking carefully and avoiding the slippery places.

When they finally arrived, Comet guided Mayfal so they were situated around a small pool of water. "Okay you can let go now. This pool is really shallow. Probably only three or four feet deep." Looking down into the pool, the wolf saw many fish swimming around. Yummy prey. "Looks like there's a lot of fish in there! Want to try catching some? It's rather easy, you put your paw into the water, and when you feel something over it, you bring up your paw, and slam the fish on the ground." Usually she would demonstrate, but there would be no use doing so for someone who couldn't see.

Mayfal was careful to stay as close to Comet as possible. There was so much danger in this cave. While holding on to Comet's tail, their own tail was tucked far between their legs. They made no thoughtless steps.

When Comet stopped, Mayfal made sure to stop just as promptly. There was a pool that they could fish in. They remembered their first encounter with fish. Mayfal wondered how Comet knew the trade. They didn't ask, though. They were too busy being scared of everything. Like the three to four feet of 'shallow' water that would completely submerse Mayfal even if they were on their hind legs. They decided they'd stay near the edge and try fishing.

They dipped their paw into the water. There were many sensations rushing around their paw. Slimy, scaly, cold, and stone ones. One scaly thing was passing over Mayfal's paw when they attempted to lift it. They slammed an empty paw on the stone in front of them.

"Grrrrrrr." This whole fishing-in-an-unsafe-environment-while-blind thing was becoming less and less appealing to Mayfal.
