Dear old Dad - Barnabus - Mar 23 2021
Barnabus was excited.
he couldn't believe he'd missed it, he'd hatched in this cave he hadn't even heard of the collector before hearing it in passing, he of all people deserved to know when something cool happened in here! he didn't even think he was going to come back until now but when given the chance to get things while ALSO having some fun? sounded like a damn treat, if you asked him!! he wanted to cause some trouble and get a reward for his efforts, really a pattern he'd see more of within himself later on.
he skipped lightly within canis, legs tired from the walk but still bouncing with excitement. all he had to do was call out the fellows name, then? no problem! he liked yelling things!
"HEY!! COLLECTOR, YOU THERE??" he yelled. he certainly hoped he hadn't been lied to, that'd just be awful. he wanted to see this stuff for himself! the possibilities of what he'd even ask for were running through his head, nerves full of lightning as he practically hopped in place.

Ahh, this one... how fun. He hadn't been sure he would see it again. Not alive, anyway. It had made it this far--this was a good omen.
The Collector appeared in a puff of black smoke, as theatrical as ever, a few feet in front of Barnabus: and he drew himself up to the apex of his height, his voice taking on a rich and trembling timbre as he spoke. It was all very dramatic. "I am the Collector... Who is this that summons me?"

his eyes widened (all current 20 of them, 10 of which were on the book), staring up at the collector. "woah... that was cool!! how'd ya do that? nevermind, not important-" he said
"You can call me Barnabus, good sir!" he said, giving a dramatic bow, popping back up and nearly knocking the book out of place. "i heard ya give people cool stuffs if they do things for ya, is that right??" he asked, tilting his head.
he heard "horror stories" about the guy asking for stuff like murder or general bodily harm but hey, their fault for taking the stupid deal if it bothers them so much. what happens happens! not his problem. is it? oh well.

"Barnabus, what a delight to make your acquaintance," the Collector crooned, and stepped forward. He offered out a hand, and then tilted his head. "Ahh, my apologies--has anyone taught you the sacred gesture of a handshake-? A greeting between such superior beings as bear such appendages. We clasp fingers, like so," (and he demonstrated with his own two hands) "and shake hands as a show of mutual respect. May I-?" and here he offered his, again.
"Regardless, the rumors are certainly true. I provide desirable items to those who wish them--for a price. May I ask what it is that you seek? -Barnabus..?"

He hummed curiosuly, "i dont think so! looks neat though." he said, reaching out and taking the collectors hand in a handshake, after a moment, he let go, looking up. "i do that right?"
he beamed, cheering to himself. "awesome!! i thought about it on the way here, and i think i know a few things im looking for, aspect wise i mean" he said,
he grabbed his book and opened it up to a random page, if only to help organize his thoughts, a single eye opened in the middle of his neck to assist with, yknow, actually reading it. he cleared his throat.
"i was thinking of something i'd get plenty use from of course, but i couldn't make a decision on what kind of use i'd actually want from it. do i want something to help with my magic, or something to help with other activities, and i landed on the latter given i can progress in magic on my own with relative ease and without taking shortcuts, i'm thinking something that could be somewhat of a multi-purpose tool, something that i'll use frequently because whats the point in trading for it if you aren't going to use it, right?" he said, pausing to take a breath, tracing the lines that manifested in his book in a way that, while it made sense to him, looked like nonsense to someone else.
"so something USEFUL, but not limited to one purpose, you know? given i don't know much about your arsenal, i wanted to let you give me some.. recommendations of sort."
he put the book back in its spot above his neck, eyes smiling. "so, whatcha got for me?" he finished, waiting patiently for a response. this was fun!

Attentively, silently, he listened.
His eyes lingered on those eyes across the book--he wasn't entirely certain which to make eye contact with, but that seemed... a safe bet. Barnabus had much to say, and when he had finished, the Collector cleared his throat.
"Well, Barnabus. It is good to have one who knows what they want; but let us talk specifics, hm-? 'Activities' is such a... vague term. Care to tell me a little more about what sort of tasks you engage in? What sort of things you feel you may need... tools, for?" he asked.
Of course, if the book-creature didn't know, he had ideas of his own; but best to check, because Barnabus might wish to narrow it down, first, a little.

RE: Dear old Dad - Barnabus - Mar 27 2021
he immediately brightened up, "i'm glad you asked!" he said, "i almost forgot!"
"so, i didn't exactly know what that meant at first either? so i just went ahead and asked myself "what do i find myself doing most often?", which ended up being hunting, and making things. see my friend vanyel's family makes alot of stuff, and since i met them i found myself more and more intrigued by the idea of making stuff myself, but i ALSO know that hunting is a bit of an issue given my main hunting tools are beneath my clothes which i almost never take off except to wash them, and it's not very easy or practical to just keep them on, blood isn't easy to clean out of that material, so something that could act as both a weapon i can use for hunting AND something to make crafting more accessible, since it gets annoying asking to borrow tools all the time" he rambled, barely stopping for breath, probably because he had like 3 different mouths breathing for him at the moment.
he paused, trying to think. hey, wasn't there a tool they had that was kinda like that..? gods i don't remember the name. he huffed. "i think i might be thinking of something specific but i have no idea what the name for it is. ugh. either way, thats what im thinking."
it wasn't really Barnabus's fault for not remembering the word "knife", it wasn't exactly explained to him.

...Well, that was a sentence. The book-boy rambled, indeed, managing a single sentence that twined into a long speech.
The Collector waited patiently, and then attempted to summarize as best he could. "So, you seek something useful for both crafting, and hunting..? I may have several such items. I will need time to think that over, to come up with options; meanwhile, please do tell: what can you offer me in turn?"
Crimson pinprick eyes travelled over the neat clothes and the many-eyed book of a head. He wondered what Barnabus might have tucked away in those pockets worthy of trade. Or was it something else he'd offer?
@Barnabus
RE: Dear old Dad - Barnabus - Mar 28 2021
he nodded, and then hummed in thought. what WAS he willing to offer?
"i have a pocketwatch somewhere, but i quite like it, and unless you collect pocketwatches i don't think it'd be of much use to you" he spoke, thinking it over.
"i think i can mostly do things for you, what im willing to do is. kinda hard to pin down, since i don't know what you're offering me yet, and it'd just be rude to under-pay you when you've been so nice to me," he said. "i think my only hard limit could maybe be... murder..? ah but even then i don't think it'd be worthy to say that until i see what you have because if its really worth it i might have to reevaluate that boundary.
he hummed. "i think a safe bet is i MIGHT be able to do anything, aslong as i can, yknow, feasibly do it. and! if it helps, im able to remove pages from my book after putting things on them, incase you think thats of any use. relatively painless... most of the time." he said, finally. he looked up at the collector, all 10 book-eyes just kinda dragging along the collectors "face", or atleast his eyes. not much else was visible to him.

The Collector listened, head slightly inclined. "Ahh, well; your willingness is heartening, but that is but half of it. A welcome half, to be sure, but the other half is equally as important: what are your abilities? What, precisely, are you capable of--if you know, mind you; if you are too young to know your own skills, well. Perhaps we can test them out together, hmm? But perhaps if you have talents you've discovered, or the like..?"
He had time to wonder, too; a pocketwatch? Another of the Hive's questionable gifts, then, or something else altogether?
