RE: [OLYMPICS IV] Obstacle Course - Nameless - Sep 05 2020

She watched the race carefully, flying along with them on the sidelines, to ensure that there wasn't any cheating happening or the no one became seriously injured. Thankfully, there weren't any major accidents, although a few of the participants quite halfway through.

She flew ahead to wait for the gembound that would run across the finish line first, noting each one as they crossed by. She nodded to each and then waited for the rest of the runners to make their way to the end. Once all (but one) of the racers had finished the course, she hopped onto a rock that would hopefully make her a little more visible.

"Thank you, everyone, for participating in this year's Obstacle Course! Congratulations to our three winners! In first place, we have Yew!" She gestured to the hybrid creature and a strange pang passed across her head. She hesitated at the sudden feeling for a moment, but pushed it away. Later. "In second place, we have Hemlocke!" She gestured towards the small alien. "And in third place, we have Sorda!" She waved a wing towards the bird. "Thank you, again! This brings the Obstacle Course to a close! Please enjoy the rest of the Olympics!" With that, she hopped down from her spot and made her way through the crowd. The day had been fun, but she was getting a little tired of all the noise and pressing bodies. Time to find a nice place to rest.

RE: [OLYMPICS IV] Obstacle Course - Huckleberry - Sep 05 2020

Huckleberry stayed sprawled out on his stomach when the judge that sounded like Blackberry announced the winners. Of course, he hadn't won anything at all, but he hadn't expected himself to get anywhere. That was fine - at least he'd gotten out and involved in things, as Shiny had told him would be best!

The catsquirrel came charging from behind him, having run all the way along the sides of the course, and throwing herself at him, purring happily and clambering right back onto his shoulders. With a chuckle, Huckleberry stood up and began edging out of the crowd. There were a lot of Gembound here and he didn't really wanna get pulled into any conversations. It was fun, but now he was feeling self conscious and just kinda wanted to go home.

RE: [OLYMPICS IV] Obstacle Course - Scion - Sep 05 2020

Beta, unlike some of the others, didn't wait for the winner announcements. It knew that it hadn't placed and it didn't care about who had. It had noticed Hemlocke at the forefront of the race but it didn't want to risk running into it, in case it wanted to gloat.

Moody and frustrated with itself, Beta left quietly, spotting Orthoclase-Alpha in the crowd and, in a sudden fit of bravery, sped up and bounded over to it. "Was Master Vargas watching?" it asked, trying to keep the worry out of its voice.

@Orthoclase-Alpha

RE: [OLYMPICS IV] Obstacle Course - Hemlocke - Sep 05 2020

i honestly forgot what table i was using here and i don't care to look so

It didn't care to watch for what racers filtered in after it, what with their clamoring hooves and paws - all it knew was that it'd come after that wretched-looking hybrid; and that the newly-minted Overseer was presiding just to its right. The brutish creature's gaze was boring a hole into nowhere, but that sparked an intimately-familiar sense of uncertainty in Hemlocke that had it asking:

Would it decide to exercise its authority?

Had their Master tasked it with destroying any of the Sentinels that did not succeed in this race?

Had it done well enough?

Did it - ?

Satellite-dish ears pricked straight up at the sound of its name in an unfamiliar mouth. An inward cringe was spared at it being listed second (because being second-rate got you nowhere in these Caves -) but it glanced over to the Overseer to see it merely standing to leave. Hemlocke shuffled on the pillar it was perched atop, chirped a brief, "I'll wait by the Tunnel for our Master and your's return," before winging off and away.

RE: [OLYMPICS IV] Obstacle Course - Ivory - Sep 05 2020

Ivory turned and thundered to a halt, useless wings briefly flailing for instinctive balancing at her sides. Her flanks heaved with her heavy breathing as she caught her breath, and ghostlight eyes cut here and there as she searched for others who had finished. She wondered if anyone else had gotten burnt, too.

"-It's done, then?" she asked, unsteadily, looking up at the white goose.

She couldn't tell if it was over, yet; her tail swished behind her and she turned to and fro, as if to ask, 'what now?'

RE: [OLYMPICS IV] Obstacle Course - Bug - Sep 06 2020

She wasn't going to give up. Not here-! She was so close... but not really, though. They were announcing winners, and she was still on the track!

The shame prickled her at once. The announcers declared it over. That was that. They were just leaving. Not a WORD to her, no acknowledgement or even mention that she could stop. Bug turned, staring back at Nameless with immediate indignant anger. "HEY!" she yowled. And then, much more quietly--"...What about me?"

Bug turned away, head low, tail hanging, ears pinned back in misery. She was doing so badly she'd been forgotten. She'd already been last, but...

It was only with shame and sadness that she half-crawled over the ledges at last, and slunk along toward the finish line, keeping to the shadowed edges of the course.

How... humiliating.

RE: [OLYMPICS IV] Obstacle Course - Orthoclase-Alpha - Sep 06 2020

The race was uneventful, even with the numerous falls and dropouts. Alpha stared blandly at the winners: Hemlocke'd been expected, but the other two looked to be so regular that they couldn't have been deliberate creations. One was a bird, while the other was some sort of winged canine. Neither were anything to write home to its Master about. None of the runners were, really.

Toxic eyes listed tiredly towards the approaching ruby, narrowing only slightly with a bristling, like it'd been interrupted. It stood - because the race was over and it had a date to catch - and shook its head, "he wasn't." The orthoclase's voice was clipped, but held that implied do you see him watching? It started to pick its way down the tunnel before ultimately deciding to call upon its magic with a grunt. "I have places to be. Go back to the tunnel doors, if you aren't doing anything." It barked those orders, then took a running leap off the very same cliff used in the course.

The Overseer landed as if it weren't a three-thousand-pound monstrosity, crouching low to absorb the impact shock that magic couldn't take away. Massive talons hooked into every nook they could to prevent a rebound before it straightened. It shook itself off and continued down the tunnel.

RE: [OLYMPICS IV] Obstacle Course - Scion - Sep 06 2020

Beta breathed out a sigh of relief, not even minding Alpha's cutting remarks and turned to watch it fling itself off the cliff. ...wait. Eyes widened with shock as it lunged after it, grabbing the edge of the cliff and looking down to make sure it was okay. And...it was? Beta watched with shock and confusion as Alpha just stood up and walked away, as if it hadn't just thrown itself down the side of the cliff.

It blinked, confused, but then breathed out heavily and stood up taller. It was tired of dealing with its siblings oddities to be perfectly honest. And it just wanted to get out of here. Even if Master Vargas hadn't been watching, a lot of others had. And it wasn't going to tarnish its reputation.

Turning the opposite direction, Beta set off at a quick gallop towards the nearest exit.

RE: [OLYMPICS IV] Obstacle Course - Doug - Sep 10 2020

He waited impatiently for the course to finish up. He knew there was no way he’d place, and he didn’t want to stick around much longer to see how badly he’d failed. Sure, maybe he was being a sore loser, but he was also just sore in general.

As soon as the winners were announced, he slunk off towards the Orion entrance.
