RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P4 - Game Master CJ - Sep 08 2015

Much of the ice toward this exit of the tunnel had melted due to the fire in Polaris. Tucked away between a few of the remaining ice pillars lay the bird on a shaped slab of ice. From his vantage point near the high ceiling he could watch much of the activity in the tunnel and in Polaris. He had settled in and remained still, splitting his concentration between spying and keeping the ice frozen. The dragon was as he remembered: big, ugly, and reckless. It would destroy everything given the chance. It was a monster. Having nearly died the last time he put this beast to sleep, the phoenix was trying to take careful notes of its current behavior.

Astraea. Dropping his head just below the edge of his ice nest, he watched the ruby. Most of him didn't want any of the others to have to fight the dragon, but the bird knew they wanted to fight for their home too. Despite being such a great counter to such an awful creature, the phoenix was pacifist. He disliked all sorts of violence and fighting, and especially killing. So, the dragon had slept until now. Others from the pool started to show up, and others he didn't remember being there. They were all the same, they each possessed a gem that was their existence. If their gem were to be heavily damaged or destroyed, so too would the name behind it. It wouldn't be a problem if everyone could just avoid conflict. There was always conflict.

Water began to trickle down the pillars he mostly had to create, as now he had to let them go. The dragon's fire was in its own league. It was too hot, too dangerous; but his ice was in the same league. Too cold, but never dangerous. Complete opposites of the spectrum, but strong against each other. The flow of water increased as he let his vantage point melt. It sizzled as it washed across the ground and barely made it several feet before evaporating. He dropped slowly with his wings a bit outstretched for balance, riding the ice as it melted down. A foot reached out to greet the ground, and the whole thing ended quite gracefully. He dropped to nearly lay on the ground. If he stood, he would be too tall. He didn't want to seem above any of them, because he wasn't. He was the same as them, too.

"Friends," he crooned, looking over them before settling on Astraea. There was a moment where he just stared. In truth, it was barely a few seconds, but he looked into the stag and was regretful. "There are more than I expected," he said, glancing back to the gembounds. He didn't want any of them to risk their lives against the dragon. He could feel their adrenaline and their will to fight. The energy was becoming palpable. Though he was innately tuned to much of the natural world, it was hard to miss this. He valued all life and wondered if they knew just how dangerous the dragon was. While he didn't want the children to fight, he especially didn't want Astraea to fight. What had happened that caused him to form a new body? If he could help it, the phoenix didn't want his partner to have to go through another experience like that.

Again, he wondered how long it had been.

RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P4 - Arkrael - Sep 08 2015

Scents quickly enveloped Arkrael's sense as she hurried through the area. There was one scent that was familiar, but it wasn't until she got even closer that she found a second familiar. Leon and Fisher were here. Her audits lifted as she trotted over to the gathered group, first greeting Fisher with a quick wag of her tail and a short nuzzle to the top of his head before she turned her focus to the bear. "Leon," She greeted as she slowed to a stop just beside him. She turned her focus to the others that had gathered for the task at hand and wondered if that was all that would stand against the beast of the dragon. "I'm assuming Makyna is not joining this?" It was a silly question and she knew the bear probably requested his lover to stay behind to keep her safe.

Audit's twitched and turned, drawing her gaze towards the large blue spoke. He called them friends and she offered a small grin in response. She couldn't find any words to give, so instead she paced a moment before plopping down on her haunches and watched everyone. Curious to see what plan they would make, Arkrael was still a bit nervous to be going up against the dragon she had yet to set her eyes upon.

RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P4 - Makyna - Sep 08 2015

MAKYNA
"let's sing a song for the heart"

The day had come. An army of assembled gembounds had come to help fight the monstrosity in Polaris. Makyna hated fighting, hated anything to do with it but she knew that it had to be done. However, she would not be joining the battle this time. As much as she would love to help bring down the dragon she had others duties to do, like aiding Bevy with the wounded. It wasn't as chock full of action as the main fight would be but it was a duty that needed to be done nonetheless.

She arrived after everyone assembled and easily she made her way through the crowd and right up to her Leon. Tenderly she touched her nose to his cheek and slowly ran her flank along his. "Be safe... Please." Her eyes turned up to gaze into his, a plea was there. A plea for him to return to her safely. "I love you, teddy bear." She gave him a lick on his cheek and left her own next to his for a moment, breathing in his scent. "Don't let that silly dragon ruin our wedding..." With that she pulled away and with one last look headed off in the direction that Bevy took.

She paused just long enough to see a wolf pad up to Leon before she disappeared into the neighboring tunnel.

@Leon
If I need to change anything please let me know... but Ky will not be joining the fight. She'll be helping Bevy instead.

RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P4 - Delphine - Sep 09 2015

Delphine was not a fighter in any sense of the word. She was born without some such violent inclinations and even now as she neared Polaris, her heart thundered with trepidation. In truth, the young adolescent had contemplated not joining the effort to fell the draconian beast; not from fear but that she would be more of a hindrance than anything else. Yet even so, the utter need to protect her home and fellow Gembounds overrode any some such whims and though late, she found herself among a congregation of creatures who she'd yet to lay eyes upon. There were few familiar faces and it was to them who she gravitated closely to.

Her black lips brushed fondly against Arkrael's shoulder before she nickered a hushed greeting. "Hello Arkrael." She would have said more but at that exact moment, words were lost on her. What could she say in a situation as this? It was clear that among those who'd come together, she was the youngest and weakest but she refused to be intimidated by age and inexperience. There had to be something to be done, even for someone as herself and she pinned those hopes well and true upon her heart. Her emerald gaze drifted past the unfamiliar faces before settling on the stag called Astraea and his phoenix companion.

She spoke. "I know I am young and without experience but I can still offer assistance." Delphine stopped, confidence ebbing and flowing with each word that passed but again, her determination won through. "I can help." It was a final assertion and though her voice still tremble and shook, there was an iron-glint to her eyes.

RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P4 - Game Master Madison - Sep 10 2015

Gradually, the rest of the Gembounds had filed into the tunnel. First to arrive was the blind owl, whose piercing green gem-eyes radiated through the darkness until he had stumbled and rolled into the stag's leg. Twisting his ears back, the deer stepped and raised his hoof, looking down at the owl sympathetically. "Are you alright?" He asked, though it seemed others were quick to join them - next was the half-face fox who trudged in, snarling and sneering until he caught sight of the dragon, at which point he cursed and the smile fled from his jaws. Next, a fat bear came running in, panting as he informed them that more Gembounds from Cetus were coming - Aquarian's friends, he had to assume. Sure enough, an alligator, a komodo dragon and a boar followed. The former was immensely excited at the challenge of fighting the dragon, while the komodo was quiet and the boar squealed his delight. A fisher and a black dog came next, concerned but pledging to fight the beast in Polaris.

He recognized Bevy from Pisces and bowed his head to the small bird, grateful that she'd taken the time to set up a station to which the injured could go. They would need all the help they could get, especially from somebody who knew how to mend wounds. "Thank you, Bevy." The stag said before she'd left. A lioness had been with her, branching away to speak to the fat bear, but the stag paid little attention; Arkrael had appeared not long after, and he nodded to her, too. At that point, the phoenix had revealed himself. He first heard the sizzling of ice as it suddenly melted against the heat; the stag swung his head to face the massive, gleaming bird as he descended from his perch and joined them, bringing with him a natural gust of cold.

The stag stared with awe at the bird, blinking and stepping back as he addressed them before settling his gaze on the deer. He nodded, glancing back to the crowd. "More to fight against him." The dragon. The more they had... the better their chances of winning. That was for sure. The stag's shoulders dropped slightly with a small sigh, at which point he watched one last Gembound join them. The young, black horse that had appeared in Pisces as well, the one to help stop the waterfall. "You've done more than enough to help as it is." He said sincerely, looking now to the phoenix before returning his gaze to Delphine. "But you must understand, it will be a dangerous task."

He spoke, then cleared his throat and stepped back again, addressing the whole group. "That beast in there will not hesitate to set you aflame. He is unlike many of the Gembounds you've met in this cave - he is a monster. Heartless and without mercy. If you wish to escape this battle alive, then you must exercise caution. Bevy has graciously set up a station further down the tunnel for anyone that has been wounded. If you are hurt, help yourselves, and help others - we will never succeed if we turn against each other." His words were a pointed warning and an ominous reference to the chaos that had unfolded before. "We will enter Polaris from this entrance, but when we do, do not follow me - you must spread yourselves out along the wall, in every direction, else the dragon will eliminate us in a single breath. Do not flock together. Hit him from every angle, and run." Never stay still. It was their only defense against a creature so titanic.

With a sharp breath, his gaze flickered over the group. "Is everyone ready?"

RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P4 - Dragon - Sep 10 2015

Dragon inhaled, jaws parted in a reptilian grin, the light of Polaris's flames dancing in the reflection of his eyes.

"YES," he hiss-growled distinctly. Then he added, "Aquarian spoke of appealing to his pride. Children of fire." Dragon wasn't sure who was running the show here, but the stag seemed ancient, and the others were looking to him, so he threw the deer a head-tilted look of questioning. He doubted that the deer--or anyone, really--could guess at what Aquarian had meant. If he'd meant luring him into a trap, it was probably too late, now.

Maybe he could appeal to the dragon's pride, by taunting him?

Dragon wasn't stupid, but for some reason when facing such a grand opponent he tended to lose all sense. The first thing he'd done upon his hatching had been to attack Aquarian, and now he looked ready to repeat his performance with the same flippant disregard for his life.

He was even tempted to belch out a lash of flame in challenge, but the others weren't ready just yet, and anyway, he ought to save his power for when it mattered.

Eyes still glittering with flame, the alligator set his sights on the distant onyx dragon, his thick tail slowly lashing through the tunnel behind him in gleeful anticipation.

RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P4 - Dark - Sep 10 2015

The owl briefly snuggled up to the stag's hind leg, as if in thanks for his concern, then scooted away again to the side of the tunnel.

He remained out of the way, cuddled against the rocky surface to avoid getting underfoot.

"I'm okay. And I'm ready."

He'd briefly cooed at Bevy when she'd come close, and now he settled his feathers and quietly stared ahead, peering into the lashing flames of Polaris. He was small, but behind him, his shadow on the tunnel wall--though he could not see it--was ominous: a flickering, shifting black silhouette of an owl far larger and far more menacing than the small, mild-mannered bird that Dark truly was.

He'd stay here, out of harm's way--being small, and blind--but he would seek the dragon's mind with his own, and try to distract it.

To ruin it.

He focused, drawing his mind inward, the sounds around him fading as he sent his mind out, forward, through the heat toward Raheerah. Seeking, feeling the way tentatively, trying to establish a link. It took time, and meanwhile the others were speaking, preparing, but Dark managed--he felt the hatred, the fury, and he whispered to it.

A small whisper, pathetic, distant--barely even brushing across the dragon's consciousness.

Excuse me, can you help me? Please? I'm stuck--here... behind you, in the water. I can see you, can you help me? Please?

The thought barely had words, distant, but it was Dark's hope that Raheerah would turn, shuffling to face away from the incoming army and toward the water, maybe lending them all the element of surprise.

RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P4 - Black - Sep 10 2015

Black strode up alongside the stag, still looking into the cave.

"The Dog is ready," he growled quietly. Then he looked back, to Fisher.

"Do you wish to stand on my back, as I run? Or run beneath me, for cover?" Black's gaze was fearless and matter-of-fact, with no thoughts whatsoever given to the outcome of this fight. Instead he seemed to intend to simply charge in and battle, to whatever end.

He looked briefly over the others with the air of a general assessing his troops, though this was not his army and not truly his fight. He didn't know them.

He didn't know the stag that led them, antlers branching and wide. He didn't know the small, black-red bird that scuttled away, nor the ragged-feathered owl she'd whispered to. He didn't know the massive, shaggy, scarred brown bear, nor the spike-ridged lizard or the swifter-looking, smoother one behind it with frills atop his head. Likewise, the huge, bristly brown boar, massive even when young, and the black crow atop its head were unfamiliar to him.

His gaze lingered on the crow, for a moment, and he felt as if something from her called to him, something tugging at his stone--her magic, perhaps, an echo of his?

His eyes then slipped onward, eyeing the lioness that was slinking away into the darkness.

Then he looked at Fisher, so tiny compared to many of the rest, brown like the bear and just as covered in scars.

Black felt a surge of protectiveness. He would watch Fisher; he would guard Fisher with his life. That was why he was here--not to make a dent on the dragon, but to ensure that the dragon did not make a dent on the fisher.

RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P4 - Leon - Sep 11 2015

Sure enough, not far behind him those from the Cetus group had decided to join them. First came the alligator bounding in, then the komodo dragon and the large boar, taking to the challenge of fighting the massive dragon. Leon had managed to catch his breath, standing taller and side-stepping away from the blind owl when another two had entered. There was a black dog and the little fisher - Fisher, the one that Makyna had slapped, the one that had been with Cancer, the one he'd climbed the spire with. The bear blinked for a moment; he held no ill will towards the fisher, after what had happened what felt like a lifetime ago. It was only a little more than a cycle, maybe one and a half, yet it felt like just a distant memory. Maybe everything was just clouded over with perspective. It wasn't important any more. They had to fight a dragon.

Bevy arrived and with her came Makyna - Leon's gaze snapped to her, and he briefly fretted that she'd intended to join the battle. They had talked about it, hadn't they? He didn't want her getting hurt, but Leon, he could handle it. His attention drowned in her as she approached, forgetting everyone else. Her tough brought heat to his skin and his heart quickened, for as much as she may have reached out to him for comfort, he took the same in those gentle gestures. The bear turned his head and returned the nuzzling to her jaw, cracking open a smile with a boyish laugh. "He's dead meat! Nobody gets in the way of my special lady's special day!" Leon growled, burrowing his head into her neck with another laugh before withdrawing from her. He stole a second to revel in her presence before she had turned away. "Stay safe." He called to her, and the smile slowly pulled away form his muzzle.

Of course he feared that something would happen. There was every possible that something could happen to either of them, but Leon had to be confident. He furrowed his brow and set his shoulder back, mentally steeling himself for the coming battle when he heard another familiar voice. Leon turned to the wolf, expression easing into one of concern. "She's staying behind to help Bevy." He turned his gaze now to Polaris, where the heat crackled and tongues of flame licked the rock walls just out of view - the phoenix emerged, and the stag delivered speech to the gathering, preparing them for war. Leon said nothing, nodding his confirmation.

RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P4 - Ghanyarah - Sep 11 2015

Ghanyarah remained silent through much of the group's growth. His gaze flickered between the gathered Gembounds, but he had little interest in them - it was strange that his interest in individuals waned the more there were present. In fact, Ghanyarah didn't find any of them interesting at all, his attention lingering mostly on Dragon and sometimes Czernobog when the pig said something vaguely different than his name. His tongue flicked out, tasting the air, tasting the heat - he snuck a glance around the corner and spied the flames that bathed the room, worrying him slightly. If his magic went wrong at all, it could be catastrophic - it could dehydrate the lizard. Not only that, but he didn't have much of a source to work with in the first place. If the dragon had any liquid in his body, maybe... but it would be quite the feat.

Acidic pink eyes shifted to the stag, registering his words momentarily. For the most part, they went in one ear and out the other. Spread out, stick close to the wall? Always run. Whatever. Ghanyarah just had to try not to burn alive, and maybe he'd have to keep an eye on Dragon to ensure his brother didn't burn himself up, either. With a snort, Ghanyarah lowered himself to the ground and waited for the go-ahead, unsure if he was really anticipating the battle itself or just fearing looming death.
