RE: Look to the Sky - Alexander - Nov 03 2015

Alexander had never met someone so… full of… childish joy. He only knew a few other Gembounds, and most of that time was spent with his rather serious father. The little girl was a bit of a mystery to him. (The fact that they were nearly the same age did not even cross his mind. To him, she was but a baby, and he was her charge for the moment, which meant he had to protect to her no matter what). She giggled, and he grinned at her as she let go of his face and plopped onto the ground.

He listened politely as she proceeded to complain about her parents’ rules, and Alexander felt the need to stick up for them. Sure, he didn’t like some of his father’s rules either, but it was disrespectful to complain about them as she was. He gave her a look that suggested he was an old man staring at a delinquent, and shook his head. Clearing his throat, he prepared himself for a bit of a big-brotherly speech. “Miss Cure,” he said, trying to find the right words. He was no good at speeches like his father, and he sat with his mouth partially open as the words slowly came to him…

Right. “Miss Cure,” he said again. “There are lots of things my father makes me do that I don’t like doing. He makes me study and learn lots of things when I come home. Sometimes I just want to sleep, or go hunting, but he is adamant that I become a proper gentleman, a proper Prince, so that I might one day be King.” He cleared his throat, searching for more words. “Complaining about the rules your parents give you won’t change them. And it’s very disrespectful. Your parents don’t like that you wander around by yourself because you are yet too small to properly fend off an attack. You cannot blame them for caring about your wellbeing. Would you rather they didn’t care at all? How would you feel if they just completely ignored you?”

He felt a little bad afterwards, worried he might have scared her… And then he wondered where her parents were. He had a feeling she had snuck away from them, or she probably wouldn’t be here at all. “Where are your parents?” he asked her, looking around as if hoping they would magically appear.

RE: Look to the Sky - Cure - Nov 04 2015

The last thing she expected was to receive a look that looked vaguely familiar to the look she had received from her father once. Nigh instantly the compulsion to force her ears back against her skull kicked in and there was no denying it. The thought of her parents not wanting her around, or ignoring her as Alexander had put it, left a twinge in her chest and here brows furrowed together in sudden distress. "No I wouldn't want that..." She shook here head back and forth as she amplified her answer to his inquiry. It wasn't long before she started to feel ashamed by what she had said. It wasn't that she was extremely angry about not getting to go explore other places. She would be content with exploring all the dilapidated structures that made up most of this room. Her main curiosity was the tower that loomed over all, and the cliffs that was she expressly forbidden to attempt going to.

Rounded ears lifted up and perked into attention as Xander's new question caught her interest and she slowly brought her gaze back up to the mildly bigger cat. "Daddy is back at the Den asleep with my sister. I'm actually not sure where Mama is. She wasn't there when I snuck away," She gave a slow shrug as she idly turned her gaze towards the throne that was now a good distance away. She could just barely see the top of it over a few of the ruined structures. Her tail that had momentarily stopped moving began swaying too and fro behind her and finally she turned her gaze back towards the Lion. "You said you've only met one other lion before. Was that your father?" She questioned curiously, eager to get the topic changed off the fact her parents were probably going to be mad when they found out she wasn't at the den sleeping with the others.

RE: Look to the Sky - Alexander - Nov 04 2015

Alexander cringed inwardly when he realized that he had, indeed, scared her. Or at least made her feel worse than she should have. Why did he feel the need to be like his father all the time? Ah. And this was the part where he would chastise himself for such thoughts. His father wanted what was best for him. That was all. The sooner he realized that, the better. It would make his life a lot easier. He shook his head, focusing once again on Cure, who seemed to be looking at their surroundings in curiosity. He remained quiet, not wanting to say anything else potentially frightening.

He stood at attention like a good little knight when she began speaking again, straight-backed and keeping his gaze on her to show that he was listening. She answered his question about her parents, and his brows drew together when she told him that she did not know where her mother was. That was odd, but there were a thousand reasons for such a thing. He didn’t know anything about how their family dynamic worked, so he couldn’t even begin to guess. His head tilted to the side a bit with her next question. ‘You said you've only met one other lion before. Was that your father?’

“My father?” he repeated, confused for a moment. Xander had no concept of such a thing as children looking like their parents. He had picked up on the fact that Cure looked a bit like her mother, but he had seen Cure’s chrysalis in advance, and Lady Amaria had spoken of there being a father, as well. So, he had to assume that the children would look like them. But in his case… “No, my father is not a lion. He is a bird. I’m not sure what kind. He adopted me from my emergence from my chrysalis. The only other lion I have ever met is a young Gembound named Niru. I met him the same day I met your mother.”

RE: Look to the Sky - Cure - Nov 04 2015

Finding out that Xander's father was a bird would have probably confused some other young gembound, but Cure was not at all startled by the news at all. Her twin's mother was a bird! Which was why she looked so much different than herself and Amaria. She looked him over once again, curiously trying to find any sign that would prove his words to be true. "It must be different..." She finally murmured as she finally gave up. This guy had no bird in him whatsoever. No wings. No talons. No feathers! It was strange as the only thing she knew of gembounds emerging from their chrysalis was because two other gembounds made them. At least... that was how it was for her and her twin. "So...maybe you were made like how mom and dad were? just...boom! awake?" She tilted her head at him in question.

Of course the way her parents came to being was not at all described in that manner. It was just how Cure was able to explain it in her own words at the moment. Her tail swished with her curiosity, puzzled by the lion in front of here. He had used the word adopted, but she wasn't exactly sure what that meant. Her mama always acted like a mama towards her twin and Remmy always called her Mara. So, did that make her mom an adopted mom to her twin? Her thoughts continued to buzz around in her mind, confusing her the more she tried to figure out just how everything worked. All this thinking definitely made her hungry and when she suddenly felt her tummy begin to growl she gave a nervous grin.

"I don't suppose you're hungry too...are you?" She eagerly watched him again. She hadn't gone hunting before. Not yet. Her parents always said they would soon take her and her sister. That she should practice catching the bugs she saw around their den to try and get an idea of it. Xander said he had hunted before, so maybe he could show her!

RE: Look to the Sky - Alexander - Nov 04 2015

Cure seemed to look him over for a few moments, as if… looking for something. Then she seemed to give up, murmuring that it must be different. Xander scrunched his eyebrows together in confusion. She said some more things, and he tilted his head slightly, trying to understand what she meant about… ‘Boom! Awake.’ His tail flopped as he thought about it. He remembered the struggle it had taken to actually come out of his chrysalis, and the way his father had desperately tried to help him. He smiled slightly at the remembrance of his second attempt – the shattering of the golden cocoon and the tinkling sound that accompanied it…

“Yes, I… certainly seemed to just… wake up suddenly.” He chuckled. “I had a helluva time getting out of my chrysalis, let me tell you.” His ears suddenly went back against his head. “Forgive my language. Do not repeat the word ‘helluva.’ Your mother would kill me.” He flashed her a sheepish grin. One ear then flicked as he heard her stomach growl, and he chuckled again. “Hungry, are we?”

He smiled at her when she asked if he was hungry too, and was about to respond that he was always hungry. An image of the look on his father’s face the day he had hunted that deer came crashing into his mind. He closed his mouth again, tail going still. He seemed to slump a little. He was a lion. Hunting was natural. Yet his father… his father did not eat meat, did not need to kill for sustenance. And so Xander had begun to hunt alone, far from other Gembounds, so he wouldn’t bother other people. He sighed, at a crossroads. For the moment, Miss Cure was his responsibility. He needed to ‘man up’ and go hunting if she was hungry. Perhaps something small – a rabbit?

“Miss Cure,” he said, clearing his throat and straightening again. “I could… find something for you, if you wanted. Would a rabbit do?” By the Cave, he prayed this wouldn’t come back to haunt him. He worried about his bloodlust sometimes…

Amaria

You fell away,
What more can I say?
The feelings evolved,
I won't let it out,
I can't replace...
Your screaming face,
Feeling the sickness inside

Silently paws trailed through the the entrance of Orion. Blue eyes shifted and looked around the area, scouting it out as she pondered her route back to the den. It was easy enough jumping her way up to the Throne from the dilapidated buildings, but she had no desire dragging the large carcass she was pulling along with her over the crumbling buildings. Blood coated her muzzle from the rather impressively sized cave deer that she had spent the morning hunting down. Hopefully it would be enough to feed the twins and Cancer. She could always go catch something again for herself if there was not any left after those three ate. A happy purr escaped the clouded leopard. She shifted the cave deer, dragging it to a better position before she continued on her way. She would go up the left path towards the Throne.

Rounded ears twitched and perked when she began to hear the faint sound of voices. At first she was going to ignore them and go around them silently, but when suddenly she heard a name that belonged to her child being said by someone else her body froze. Almost instantly her nose wrinkled as she began to bristle up. Her strong legs moved instantly, pushing her towards the two voices. Her heart began to beat erratically against her chest as she began to wonder just who was with here little rebellious daughter. IT took her only a matter of seconds to arrive silently upon the scene and when her gaze fell upon the duo a sigh of relief escaped her. She knew that lion. Alexander. Thank Namean it was only him. However...

Angry eyes set upon here child that had her back towards her and her nose crinkled up again. Silently he stepped towards them, one step after the other she prowled towards them. When she was finally right up behind her daughter she stood tall and loomed over her, a furious expression etched across her features as her gaze stared down upon her daughter. "Aaand just WHAT do you think YOU'RE doing out here....Cure..." She began to snarl as her dragon like tail began to lash back and forth behind her. She dropped the cave deer she had hunted and it hit the ground with a loud and heavy thud. She turned her gaze to Alexander in a split second, regarding him in that moment, but otherwise said nothing else as she turned her disapproving frown towards her daughter. "Well?!" She snapped, demanding an answer from Cure.

RE: Look to the Sky - Cure - Nov 06 2015

Cure listened with the utmost interest as Xander spoke of how he struggled to get out of his chrysalis. It didn't seem like she had much of a problem trying to get out. Maybe his gem was just stronger than her's had been. When he told her she shouldn't repeat a word he had just spoken because her mother would kill him Cure couldn't help but laugh. "She'd kill us both if she found me out here," She giggled as she shifted the way she was sitting. A strange sensation was suddenly crawling up her spine, but being young and naive she ignored the warning her instincts were trying to tell her.

At the mention of a rabbit Cure perked up instantly. A wide and excited grin split across her features, but as she was just about to respond to Alexander a sudden heavy breathing just behind her made her body freeze. Every inch of fur on her body stood up on end, including her tail as it now stood out straight. Her mother's voice suddenly boomed out behind her, loud and angry, and Cure gave a surprised cry as she jolted forward. She nearly bumped right into Alexander as she now stood on all fours, body tense and legs spread out in an attempt to keep her balance. Slowly she turned her head, peering over her shoulder back at her glaring mother. The loud thud of the dead meal hitting the ground made Cure laugh nervously.

"Eeheheh, H-hi m-mom" She stuttered as her brows furrowed up. She was dead. She was SO dead! When Amaria pressed her for an answer cure began to laugh nervously again as she turned around to fully face her, reaching a paw up to scratch behind an ear while she sat back on her haunches. "Well, uhm.... you see" She began, desperate to find an answer that would not irritate her mother too much. "I was hungry! And daddy wouldn't wake up, and you weren't there and..." For a moment or two Cure continued going through her excuses, rattling on nervously before she ultimately just heaved a sigh and dramatically fell against the ground, legs spread out. "I'm SOOOOOOOooorryy, I was soo boooooored," She cried in her defense as she pouted up towards her mother.

RE: Look to the Sky - Alexander - Nov 06 2015

Alexander would have been content to sit and talk to this child all day, probably eventually escort her home. He didn’t mind children as much as he originally thought he might, or maybe it was just Cure. Maybe it was just because he’d met Cure’s mother. He didn’t know, but that didn’t matter. He felt a bond slowly forming between them. Not a very strong one yet, as he’d only known her for a very short amount of time, but nevertheless, the bond was there. He knew he’d do anything to protect her. He was, after all, training to be a knight, and that meant it was his job to protect others. So when he smelled someone coming that he didn’t recognize (or was it vaguely familiar?) he kept his senses peeled.

What he was not expecting was the… weird… lizard-cat? Wait, what? What was it? No, that didn’t matter. It was coming closer, and it was looking like it wanted to murder Cure. (Why did it smell so familiar?) Alexander shot to his paws, now ignoring whatever his young charge was saying. The lizard-cat stopped right behind the child, and Alexander crouched and growled in warning. Cure came nearly crashing into his legs and spun around to face the creature, and Xander put the front-half of his body between her and whatever this lizard-cat was.

The creature, a female by her voice, spoke to Cure as if they knew each other. Alexander opened his mouth to warn the lizard-cat away, to tell it not to speak to Cure like that – and then Cure called the creature Mom, and Xander nearly fell over in surprise. The lion ended up staring at the creature, one ear twitching to listen to what Cure was saying, and he stumbled a bit when she fell onto her back and hit him in the leg. He stared down at her, and then back up at the lizard-cat. Finally, he stuttered, “L-Lady Amaria? What happened to you?” Immediately he flinched and said quickly, “Forgive me, I am just… surprised. I am sorry I growled at you. I did not… recognize you. I should have. Your scent is the same as it was when I met you.” He trailed off, unsure of what was… going on.

RE: Look to the Sky - Amaria - Nov 08 2015

The excuses came first and Amaria simply gazed upon her cub with a very noticeable look of disbelief. Her eyes flicked up when the lion suddenly stepped forth and hovered over her child as he began to growl at her. Her fur bristled with response and she was about to correct him, but the dramatic display from her daughter quickly caught her attention. A heavy sigh escaped the mutated clouded leopard. Even if she wanted to be mad at her daughter, she just couldn't be. Finally Xander spoke up, stuttering and falling over himself with his words.

Amaria could only chuckle at it lightly. "It is alright. I'll commend you for showing protection overt cub," she grinned at the lion. Had it been any other day, Amaria would have been bothered by his words, but she had soon come to like the changes of her body and no longer was she ashamed of it. "it's a long story. One I will tell you when the little one is not around," at this she turned her gaze down to Cure who had successfully crawled her way over and was now affectionately rubbing along the front of her legs and purring heavily all the while looking up at her with those damnable adorable eyes. Cure won again. Amaria sigh heavily before offering her cub a smile, "if you're hungry go ahead and have some to eat. The rest I will take to your sister and father," she purred to Cure as she dipped her head down and nuzzled the top of the Cubs head. She grinned when cure cheered and jumped at the carcas, beginning to eat it.

Amaria watched for a moment before looking to Alexander. "so what brings you around? I should thank you for keeping an eye on Cure, if that's what you were doing anyway," she hummed thoughtfully, flicking her tail in a leisure motion.

RE: Look to the Sky - Alexander - Nov 08 2015

((HI. I think I skipped Cure?? IDK if you wanted to post with her or not??? XD Sorry! You can post with her now I guess? >.<))

Alexander sat down and bowed low to Lady Amaria – to seem less threatening to and to show respect. He cursed himself for not paying attention to his sense of smell, or this blunder might never have happened. But it was over and done, and Amaria didn’t seem to mind. She even praised him for watching over her child. He ducked his head and gave a small smile, swelling with pride and ignoring his urge to run away in embarrassment. How could he learn to properly be a Prince if he couldn’t even handle compliments? His father would be shaking his head and tutting, were he around.

“I…” He cleared his throat, sitting up straight again. “Thank you, Lady Amaria.” His honey-brown eyes watched as Cure rubbed herself all over her mother’s legs, and then happily began chomping on the deer. His mouth watered, but he ignored it. It was just instinct kicking in. Besides, he would never accept food not killed by his own claws. It felt like charity, and he didn’t accept charity. His eyes found Lady Amaria’s as she began to speak again. ’Sit up straight,’ said his father’s voice. ’Make eye contact to show that you are listening.’

“Ah,” he said, giving himself a chance to think of what to say. “I suppose I was just wandering the Caves, taking a chance to get away from my father’s lessons. I love him dearly, but learning how to be a Prince is… draining.” Xander glanced at Cure, smiling at her even though she was probably too busy eating to notice. “I was, ah,” he chuckled, “ambushed by Miss Cure after I decided to take a nap. She –

He had been about to explain that she had jumped on him in his sleep, and that it could have ended badly had she been older, thinking it was funny, but he instantly realized that might get him into trouble with Lady Amaria, and it might also get Cure into more trouble. He cleared his throat again. “She certainly has quite a lot of spirit.” And that’s when the idea hit him. “Lady Amaria,” he began, bowing his head. “I had fun looking after Miss Cure. If you would like, I could… watch her for you more often. I have a feeling she likes to escape a lot. Perhaps if I were to… accompany her, it would give her a chance to explore safely.” He looked the older cat in the eyes now, and said, “I would protect her with my life.” His voice was serious, eyes honest. “I would never let her come to harm, regardless of the cost to myself.”
