RE: lonely hearts club - Ghanyarah - Jul 04 2015

As she spoke of the sacrificial pile that Dragon had compiled, the komodo tilted his head and blinked. She must have met Dragon too! He felt a small twinge of jealousy, but shrugged it away. He had no reason to be jealous. It wasn't as if Dragon was his, after all. Just his brother, or something. Anyways. "Use your bird feet." Ghanyarah answered and pointed his snout down at her clawed toes. They looked sharp enough that she could use them to draw, it was just a matter of dexterity. Granted Ghanyarah could hardly be considered dexterious himself, considering the crudeness of his drawings. The dragon began to scuttle off the root and into the swampy earth, glancing back at Eve. "Follow Ghanyarah! We are going to the tree." He instructed, having officially designated the divine as the drawing tree.

With that, the reptile turned and headed off, scampering along the roots and through the mud. The tree was a good twenty minutes or so away, but the journey would be worth it.

RE: lonely hearts club - Eve - Jul 09 2015

Eve flew along a couple of inches above Ghanyarah's head. She had decided to stay quiet for the creature's benefit - he didn't seem the type to make casual conversation, anyway. She didn't want to bother the poor thing, in hope of perhaps befriending him later.

That said - any other consideration of making friends were out the window as soon as she spotted the Divine. She knew what it was - it's horrible roots, it's ability to create earthquakes. There came a loud croak as she mulled over the memories of being flightless, crying on the head of a screaming alligator with a seared throat.

She knew that an escape would go far more smoothly this time. Perhaps Ghanyarah didn't know what the tree could do. The crow decided to wait until they got there to say anything.

.... At least, she hoped Ghanyarah didn't know what the tree was.

RE: lonely hearts club - Ghanyarah - Jul 11 2015

Ghanyarah was completely oblivious to the crow's discomfort with the tree. He barely shed a glance back at her, instead his eyes were focused on the tree up ahead. He couldn't really twist his head around to look at her either, and since she made little sound flying above him, he just had to trust that she was following him. Long tail dragged behind him as he made his way over thick roots and through the muddy marsh waters until the trees opened up, and soon the monstrous Divine was revealed through the foliage. At this point, Ghanyarah slowed and turned around to find Eve. He gestured with his snout at the tree, excited. "The drawing tree." He nodded.

It wouldn't take them much longer to reach the tree. He continued to move forward, walking a faster pace than before. He was very excited to teach the crow how to draw, it felt like he was spreading his legacy. They would be there soon, assuming all went as planned.

RE: lonely hearts club - Eve - Jul 11 2015

"...Are you sure?" was all the crow said.

She would like to draw - just not on this damn tree, of course. Surely it was fun. She had no doubts that she'd enjoy drawing (even if she were unsure she could do it) but as far as she was concerned she wanted nothing to do with this part of Cetus.

She croaked a little as they approached the tree, landing a good distance away from the Divine. She turned her head towards Ghanyarah, quiet and waiting for him.

She questioned him? She dared to question him?! Of course, Ghanyarah wasn't truly mad, he just thought it was a little silly that she doubted his ability to tell that yeah, this was the drawing tree, just look at the things I drew in it, obviously its the drawing tree because no other tree would have those drawings. The lizard slowed his pace for a moment and crooked his head towards her, narrowing his eyes slightly as if in disbelief that she would ask such a question. "Yes. The drawing tree. I drew on it. Can't you see it?" He scoffed and turned his head back towards the tree. Sure enough, there was a crude little drawing etched into the bark. They could barely see it from the distance they had stopped from the tree, but Ghanyarah didn't spare any time scuttling onto its twisting roots and heading towards it.

He clambered along the roots, walking carefully, using his claws to anchor himself with each step he took. Ghanyarah didn't even think about any potential dangers the tree posed. When he had come here before, he drew on it and then fell asleep and nothing bad happened. Why would this tree be a danger to him? And why would Eve be so scared? Reaching the trunk, the lizard hoisted himself up, supporting himself with one hand while using the other to scratch into the bark. "See? This is how you-"

The instant the komodo dragon began to etch on the bark, something beneath the great tree began to shake. The surface of the water broke into massive ripples that ebbed out from the center, the Divine; the roots began to shift, taking on the appearance of crawling. Another of the Divine's trademarked earthquakes began to crawl out from the epicenter, the tree. Within a few seconds, the entire surrounding area felt as if it was quaking, and a long, loud moan escaped from the creaking tree. The komodo dragon would be knocked off the roots and into the water; with the shaking of the roots and the ground, it would be difficult for him to emerge.

RE: lonely hearts club - Eve - Jul 13 2015

She knew this would happen. The Divine is evil.

It took her a while to realise what had happened however, she hovered and stared at the tree for a minute. Still in the air, she hadn't noticed the shaking ground and barely saw Ghanyarah fly back into the water. Now, Dragon could swim. Dragon was like some sort of water-dragon rather than air-dragon, so she thought nothing of it at first.

Until he didn't come back. She stopped thinking as she swooped down to the surface of the water, looking for the outline of Yarah. Upon finding him, she dived into the water and began trying to push his head up above the surface, talons and wings flailing uselessly in the murky marshwater.

RE: lonely hearts club - Ghanyarah - Jul 14 2015

The komodo dragon's voice snapped off as the ground beneath him began to shake. Everything shook, his whole world. He didn't get a good luck at what was happening, he didn't really see the tree suddenly shudder or how the roots looked like they were writhing because of the earthquake. He tried to cling to the roots but his balance was already off and before long, Ghanyarah slipped off the edge and into the black waters below.

He struggled, first sputtering as he broke into the water. For the first couple seconds he splashed around and just tried to get his bearings, but with the shaking and the tangle of roots above, he couldn't find his way back. His eyes slowly peeled open, but everything was blurry and bubbly, and the surface was getting farther away. Suddenly he felt the muddy bottom below, and with all his strength he pushed back up again, undulating his body as he swam towards the surface again.

Immediately he saw a shadow overhead, fluttering above - then it dove into the water and suddeny he was met with the thrashing of wings in water. He felt the bird struggle to try and bring his head to the surface - before long, he navigated through the tangle of roots and burst through the water, gasping for breath. Everything was slowly stopping shaking, but Ghanyarah's biggest concern was getting Eve out of the water now. "Eve! Bird!" He called out, splashing around in search of her. What he thought would be her, he shoved his thick paddle snout under and flipped upwards, hoping that it was her - and that he'd get her out of the water and onto the tree roots.

Luckily, the little crow was thrown out of the water; he landed on a root with a hollow thud. There was an eerie stillness before she slowly moved her talons to weakly grip the root under her and push herself up. She croaked, sighed, and then tried to shake herself dry - to not much success.

The bird did not look like a bird anymore - a flat, soaked pathetic looking creature instead. There was no longer any fluff to disguise the horribly thin, scrawny thing that was under all the feathers, or the strange pink flesh. Or, worst of all, the parted down feathers around her face showed the holes in her skull that acted as ears.

She shook herself once more before turning to the komodo dragon; probably frowning, if she had the ability to do so. "The tree is evil," Eve croaked, very quiet.

After launching the bird out of the water and onto the root, Ghanyarah expelled a stream of bubbles from his nostril and hoisted his front half onto the root. He clutched the bark with his claws, resting his head on the root while his hind end remained suspended in the water, back legs slowly kicking to keep himself aloft. He felt a twinge of sympathy for the crow, but it was only because she had dove into the water to try and help him, then the feeling passed. "Are you okay?" He asked curiously, flicking his tongue at the drenched bird. She looked a bit more like a rat than a bird.

Ghanyarah turned his head to look at the tree. Yes, maybe it was kind of evil. It had knocked the bird away as soon as he tried to touch it. "Maybe we should go." He suggested and blinked over st Eve, tilting his head. The komodo slowly clambered onto the root, flattening his body against it in an invitation for the wet bird to climb on his back. She probably couldn't fly well with wet feathers and he wasn't going to abandon her here.
