RE: passing ships - Orthoclase-Alpha - Jan 15 2020

Desert's shift in posture didn't go unnoticed. If he felt enough at ease to take a casual seat, then Alpha could smooth down its quills and set to cleaning itself off a little better. Maybe it was just looking for scraps and to not waste a single drop of blood. Internally, it disagreed about the okapi not being a bother. How dare she approach when Alpha was just in the tunnel eating a rat!

Anyways - "Not saying parent. Not good like life- or stone-giver." It grumbled, even though it just had said parent - twice, even. Family, at least, sounded palatable. Ruby-Beta was its hatchmate, more precisely, but sibling had a less sharp sound. More efficient.

This little okapi, though... she had no family. She'd been born from the spire it'd never seen and hardly heard about. Alpha narrowed its eyes, grunting. That's what comes out? Goodness, the orthoclase was glad it wasn't like that. It couldn't imagine not being a walking tank.

Alpha actually guffawed in disbelief at the prospect of anything above or beyond the caves. "Rock!" It swung an arm up at the ceiling. "Okapi blind? See rock?" It did not understand what caves actually were or implied.

RE: passing ships - Vander - Jan 15 2020

Hatched without family? He wasn't really surprised- he'd figured the same a while ago. The thought that the Spire spit them out without care was a bit concerning, though.

However- "This Spire is not my Spire." He huffed and shuffled his wings, anger flicking across his muzzle for the briefest of moments. Muzrothun spoke about wondering about the past yet spoke in absolutes like that, trying to teach him, him, a being who'd been crafted and not spit out like some rejected piece of food into this nest.

Careful, Desert. Put that ego in check. Closing his eyes and taking in a breath, Desert calmed himself before he got riled up. Alpha had decided to reject the word 'parent'. Either way would've been fine for him- it was just important that Vargas didn't end up hearing it if it did decide to say it.

Desert blinked at the final question. "Probably other caves, maybe hives," he offered with a shrug. "Above, below- is this because of the vents?" He knew of their existence, sure, but he'd never actually flown up to them. He'd always had better things to do, and he still did, like watching the kids now. "I'm pretty sure those are for air circulation. They're nothing but rock though. The... Furnace room- the ocean, that's directly under some other caves, I'm pretty sure."

Muzrothun didn't know why the commander said that the Spire was not his. But if that was how he felt, then ok. It seemed that the dragon misunderstood her inquiry. No, she meant deeper than just other caves, vents or hives. She spoke with a determination clear in her voice. "No Commander. I don't mean other caves, hives, or the vents. I mean.." She paused for a moment thinking of how to word her thoughts. Finally, it came to her clearly. "I mean, is there a whole another world that has nothing to do with the caves. A world that has nothing to do with gembounds, or the masters. I know there has to be. I was thinking of asking the masters, but I know that they would just keep it secret. I mean, that's what I've heard. I'm determined to find a world like that, and I will never give up, ever!" She knew it had to be out somewhere. It had to be.

Desert seemed to be getting annoyed, and being a child and reflecting respected adults, Alpha started rattling its quills. Its claws scuffled against the ground, almost raring to go - oh, he'd smoothed out... things must be fine. The orthoclase didn't know (or really care) what any of this spire nonsense could be.

Nor did it really get the fixation on the idea of an elsewhere.

It started to zone out a sentence into the declarations the okapi was making. Alpha's focus sharpened abruptly at the mention of the Masters. One of the first lessons it'd learned as an experiment was to not rebel, not to disrespect the Masters. To only serve and be little more than a servant. This Okapi wanted to be somewhere without them, yet thought about up and asking them for information?

Alpha looked completely mind-blown and brain-blasted as it whirled to look at its commander, eyes wide and then narrowed. Quills clicking against one another, it grumbled, "diss- dissenshun- dissension?"

It looked like it was raring to go again, confused as it was, faced with such an outspoken outsider.

RE: passing ships - Vander - Jan 18 2020

The more this okapi spoke, the more Desert's claws dug into the rock, nails scraping hard along the sand. Why would anybody need to be worried about another world? And that blatant disregard for the masters- dissension, as Alpha so eloquently put it. He would praise it on the word usage if he weren't preoccupied.

Standing abruptly, Desert's wings flared and planted their claws on the ground, his head rearing up. "You shouldn't be worried about worlds without Masters. These are your caves, and you should be proud of them." Stepping forward, mane on end, Desert looked over the being before him. "Is there something you're running from, Okapi? Unless you've got a way to dig or fly, I don't see how you're gonna find out about that secret world you're interested in."

He continued towards her, using his wings as though he were stepping on a third pair of limbs. There wasn't a way he could look intimidating being so much shorter than her, but his eyes narrowed nonetheless as he looked over her.

Too bad. She could have been of use as the hive was being reborn. He was interested in where this idea came from, though.

RE: passing ships - Muzrothun - Jan 19 2020

Muzrothun backed up a few steps, quickly infroming the dragon that she was no enemy of the masters or cave. "Don't get me wrong! I know these are my caves and I am very proud of them! I'm not running from anyone, I just hatched! Look, all I meant was this. Have you ever wondered if there is more out there? I am loyal to the caves, but I just want to see new things. That's all. I didn't mean to be offensive." Suddenly, Muzrothun's stomach growled loudly for everyone to hear. She needed to eat, and now. "I'm sorry for coming in your home and saying stuff like that. I am proud of the caves and loyal to the masters. I just wanted to find something new. I need to get something to eat. I will come visit this tunnel soon sometime." She would actually come back. She wanted to see Orthoclase again. She wanted to talk more on this, but her stomach decided it was time to get some food.

Desert advanced, and so did the orthoclase - falling easily into step behind him and looming ominously.

Then... the okapi was conveniently hungry and just scampered off.

Alpha's jaw went slack for a moment as it shuffled around its commander. It took a few steps forwards, quills rattling and going smooth again. Acidic eyes traced the ungulate's path, and the beast looked like it wanted to follow. But, it was at orders here. This wasn't a moment of free time.

It lowered its head, suggesting quietly, "I chase out?"

RE: passing ships - Vander - Jan 22 2020

He pushed it too far. "I haven't," he grumbled softly at the thought of wondering, forcing himself to look away so he didn't intimidate the child further.

This is what it was. A child of the new system, one raised like a lesser in the wilds. Carefree. He hesitated to call the lot of them stupid; they didn't know, but with them being this ignorant for so long set their personality wrong. It corrupted them.

Made them useless.

Desert huffed as she ran off, waving her away with a dismissal claw and secretly hoping she didn't come back. Best to leave them to their devices- he had no use for the forsaken like that. Odd that her hunger was so convenient though.

The claws tipping the dragon's wings rain over the back of his neck, smoothing out unsettled hairs and moving on to settle spiked scales. He glanced to Alpha- it was expectant. "No," Desert sighed, disappointed. They shouldn't terrorize those who didn't know what they were doing. "If she comes back, see one of the commanders as soon as you can, understood? I don't want you to attack her unless she starts it first." He gave the child looming over him a hard look before beginning to trot back to the warren.

He had plans to formulate and- okay. No, he just needed some time to think over the encounter, like he did with everything. He paused, though, and turned to regard the gore still on Alpha and its dinner-plate.

"Good job hunting, by the way." His tail flicked towards the remains of the rat- whatever was left of it, anyways.

There. Compliment paid; he returned to the warren with everything said and done, his sandy mane disappearing into the tunnel's offset they'd spent time building for their...

What was it? Family.

Alpha seemed to deflate, almost - it was ecstatic with the prospect of simply chasing some smaller thing down. It had no intention of killing (not really) but maybe doing a little batting around and roaring... its quills rattled lightly as they smoothed down, but acidic eyes remained just as lively. The instruction was taken to heart, bobbing its head once in understanding.

Desert Rose complimented its hunt, which received another grunt of acknowledgment, before dissipating into the warren. Alpha seemed to remember the remnants of its rat, throwing back the rest of it and setting to twisting on the spot and licking an outstretched far hind leg.

It took quite a bit of finagling, but it managed to nibble at the itchy thigh before trundling after its Commander.
