RE: Don't Eat a Rainstorm - Comet - Sep 07 2020

"Hydra champion?" Comet didn't know what in the world that was, but it sounded cool. For a few seconds she thought the the bird would do something crazy. Maybe a few cool looking kicks into the air. Either way, she decided not to mess with them. Not like she was going to in the first place, she knew they weren't a lesser bird.

"Okay. Follow me then, I guess." Comet walked a bit louder than usual, to make herself easier to follow.

The other creature asked about what being a hydra champion was and well.... Rainstorm didn't know how to explain it. It was full of death. So many of the gembounds had been swallowed up by the darkness, and one of them even came back, but the rest didn't. Rainstorm had to watch and listen as they were all swallowed up and not spit back out. Even the one that had saved them died. It was scary, that place was nothing. There was nothing to see. Just pain. Scratching against everything and your body until you were no more - Rainstorm quickly shoved those thoughts away before they got into a trance.

"We had to go through the darkness to light torches. Most of us didn't even have any way of doing it. So many of us died, and a lot of us almost did. Multiple times. And all they did was knock us out and chrysalize us when we were done! Whatever you do in your pathetic life, absolutely do not go into Hydra, or the trails that go there." The bird rambled.

That horse was right, in the end. The one that almost died. That none of them should have gone there.

"That place is why I can't see." Even if they still could find their way around, seeing was better than anything else they could ever want. Hearing at an increased level was nothing compared to being able to see the greens of Eridanus.

The wolf called for Rainstorm to follow, and they did. Long black claws clicking on the floor of the cave.

The 'pathetic life' part slipped right through her ears, Comet was too focused on the fact that a lot of them died. She had never heard of a gembound dying before, they usually chrysalized before anything like that was able to happen. The pup made a vow that she was never, ever, going to Hydra. Unless the circumstances were dire. "I won't ever go." she replied.

The pup could see that it had been a rather traumatizing experience for the bird. What was it like to be blind? She could not imagine a life without sight. No hunting, exploring, or anything fun! Too much dangers could occur. Was this bird really going to brave going alone into Eridanus? "Do you-- do you need any help? We are almost there, I don't want you to get eaten." That was saying a lot, since earlier she was the one that tried to eat them.

The canine said she wouldn't ever go to Hydra, and Rainstorm was feeling pretty pleased with themself despite the quickened heartbeat the conversation gave. Most nights were filled with visions of the darkness, pulling and pulling at them and the others. Slipping into the darkness and not being able to get out, only to be saved and have to watch the savior be pushed into the darkness to never be seen again.

It was a disgusting cycle that wouldn't break no matter how much Rainstorm tried. They tried sleeping more, sleeping less, nothing made those nightmares give way. Maybe that's just what surviving did to you, if you had to watch your savior vanish. Watch the others vanish into nothing. The toxic gas that blinded them was nothing compared to the deaths they had to witness.

Rainstorm lived in Eridanus, believe it or not. They just couldn't find their way back after everything, which is to say was due to the fact they couldn't see which direction they were going. Sure, the sounds that hit their ears let them know where things were, but it did not help them find a specific place.

"I won't get eaten. You can follow if you want." They replied, moving still.

Comet led the bird to the entrance of Eridanus, where she stopped. "We're here now. I guess-- I'll leave you here then." The pup had made the decision not to continue following the bird since they seemed pretty capable of defending themselves, and probably didn't need her help anyway. Plus, they were a hydra champion whatever that was. "Goodbye." and with that, Comet left the bird and went off to do other things.

"Exit Comet"

When they arrived, the canine only left them there, saying her goodbyes. It was better that way - Rainstorm was used to being alone and always would be. No one wanted someone like them around anyway, and they wouldn't have it any other way. They turned to head home without another warning, making sounds and listening for them to bounce back so they knew where to walk.
