Comet had not been idle. In fact, she had been searching for some vines that could be used to help tie together the logs for the new house. She had learned it from Sharp, who had helped her build the fort out of rocks and wood. It had been given to Mayfal now, as a house.

The of the fight they had was still fresh, and she flinched at the thought of what she had said that day. But it had been done, and the fox had left. Oh, she was getting off track. There was James calling her now! "Coming!" Comet sprinted back to the horse, with the vines in her mouth. "I got some good vines!" But he was not the only one there.

Another animal that looked like her, but smaller, and different. Mayfal. "Wha--" The vines dropped out of her mouth. Comet could feel the tears fill her eyes again. No, no no no this was not good. She ran into the forest and dove under a fallen tree that formed a small burrow. If one looked closely they may be able to find her. Maybe.

Whatever 'character' was, Mayfal had no time to assess the value of it. They smelled Comet's scent growing more intense. But James' voice was growing distant. Then they heard it.

They heard Comet. The skin around Mayfal's gem widened with panic. They must be in plain view. Comet must be able to see them. They heard someone scurry into leaves. They didn't want to make Comet any angrier or hurt by their own presence.

They took a deep breath and dove into the water that was next to them. They tried to keep their head under for as long as possible. Surprisingly, Mayfal could stay under the water for a very long time. They had no intentions of resurfacing any time soon either.

Two things seemed to happen at once. One, Comet dove into the woods and into a small burrow, and two, this person she seemed to know had just thrown themselves into the damn water. Were they trying to drown?!

He shot forward and gripped the fox's scruff, head dunking under the water as he tried to drag them out from the bank. His hooves slipped on the bank and he went crashing into the water, wings flapping wildly as he managed to get himself all disoriented.

His head shot up and he coughed, mane plastered to his body, his feathers soaked, and his ears pinned.

"BOTH OF YOU. HERE. NOW!", he yelled, pulling himself from the water and standing there, dripping wet and absolutely furious.

From her hole she had seen Mayfal dive straight into the water. Well, that probably wasn't a very good idea. If they were trying to escape from her they should at least know that she could kill them near a water source. And especially if they were in one. Not like she would kill them of course.

Now the horse was trying to drag Mayfal out of the water, only to fall in himself. Oh no, James was using his not so nice voice. And that was something that didn't happen very often which meant one thing: she was in big trouble.

Comet reluctantly came out of her hole and walked over to James with her ears folded back. "Yes?"

Mayfal was furious.

This creature hadn't the slightest idea what he was meddling with. He should have just left Mayfal under the water. They would have been fine! They might have run out of air eventually, but that was their problem.

It was a little amusing to Mayfal that this massive creature had managed to topple into the water. And they wanted to laugh, but this wasn't the time for that. This creature had become very frustrated, which meant Mayfal's life might be in danger. If only they hadn't followed the water, maybe they wouldn't be in this silly situation.

Nevertheless, Mayfal was there at the exact time the giant creature said to be. They could hear Comet's footfall grow closer, smell her scent become more intense. They tried to stay stoic, keep a strong stance, but their legs seemed to be missing more bones the closer Comet came. They hoped she wouldn't notice.

James finally stamped a foot and snorted, "What the Hell is going on between you two?!"

He forced them both to sit and leveled a disappointed glare at the two of them, ears pinned.

"... Comet, who is this?", he asked, turning his eyes to her, not at all happy with how this day was going.

First he was struggling with his house, and then his daughter and this fox seemed to be in the middle of a conflict, and then he fell into the river! Lovely! Now his feathers were soaked and would be for hours, and he didn't have enough time to dry them off.

Comet sat down at James's command but refused to look at Mayfal, therefore not noticing their body language. "Mayfal." she said at his questioning, "Just someone I know that's all." she let out a huff and looked down. The ground suddenly seemed very interesting.

What were the chances that the fox would wander all the way here? And to their new home nonetheless! A part of her wished that they could be back together again, but that feeling was quelled by anger at the words that they had said. Those could not be fixed.

Hearing Comet's words, anger overshadowed Mayfal's pain once again. They huffed at the remark. Mayfal was just someone she knew. Fine. Then Comet would be treated the same.

They kept their stance, head level, gait strong. They stopped shaking. They planned to leave as soon as this James creature wasn't in the way anymore. Part of Mayfal didn't like how he treated Comet, but in the current moment, Mayfal saw it as a sort of karma.

James raised a brow and shook himself off, ruffling his feathers to try and dry them, "You know them? I was under the impression that you two were the best of friends."

He sighed and rubbed his face, "Alright. So... there's clearly been a fight between the two of you. Could one of you please elaborate?"

If he could, he wanted to try to fix this. It could be a good lesson to teach Comet, if anything, even if Mayfal didn't return to being friends with the wolf.

"One at a time, I'd like to hear both of your sides of things, and don't interrupt each other, and don't say anything until the other is finished, and I've had my say, too," he said, settling himself down to talk, his glare having softened.

"were" Comet emphasized. She wished they still could be, but apparently that wouldn't be possible with the fox seeming to not care at all. The pup waited, hoping that Mayfal would elaborate first, because she was still a hesistant about the whole situation. But after thinking it over, she decided to gather up her courage and go first.

"Okay, well. One day I went to visit Mayfal in the house. But they were 'dead' in their chrysalis, but I waited for them to come out for... three days I think?" she looked at James, "That's why I didn't come home for some time. So I lived on for a while, and started to move on. But I came back to check one last time, and Mayfal had come out of the chrysalis." This was the part that was hard to say, but she continued, "But-- they accused me of moving on and not liking them anymore."

Comet whispered to herself, "Sometimes I wished I had died instead."
