RE: Get me out of here! - Pelt - Dec 26 2020 Waves of black water pushed at her sides, but the fish wasn't following her - at least, not yet. Perhaps it was preparing for another ambush, or perhaps it had given up the chase. Either way, Pelt wasn't going to let the hunt just end here. She hadn't gotten to have her banana, and she was hungry. Maybe normally she would've gone after smaller prey: a bird, more normally-sized fish, even krill on occasion. But the Redbelly was so asking for it. Besides, this could only be an opportunity to further hone her skills. She whipped back around and lunged at the retreating fish, jaws opening to reveal her own fangs. RE: Get me out of here! - Game Master Dark - Dec 26 2020 Pelt would feel her teeth sinking into scales, delving into fishy flesh, and the scent of blood--if she could smell underwater--filled the silty water.
Now engaged, the Redbelly whirled, massive muscles thrusting powerfully against the leopard seal's pull. Bubbles swirled, mud rising, as it struck out for Pelt in turn: the fish could not reach her face, not with her jaws locked to it, but it tore for her right forelimb. If Pelt did not avoid the attack, it had the potential to tear the muscle linking limb to body--though at least it would not rip it clean off. Pelt must roll to avoid the bite, or may choose to instead roll to inflict further damage with her own attacks or take another action. @Pelt RE: Get me out of here! - Pelt - Dec 26 2020 Pelt felt a sense of savage satisfaction as her strike landed. This fish was her prey now; she would have her meal. It seemed only right to have a large breakfast after such a long sleep. Sediment-filled water rushed into her mouth around the fish - gross, she thought. And here she was, about to foul up the water even more with all this commotion. She snarled as she felt the fish's muscles move beneath her grip, threatening to pull away and bite her. No you don't! Pelt jerked her head one way and then another, attempting to shake the giant fish with the movements. She had hoped to disorient it and knock its attack off course, but moving such a massive creature was even more difficult than she had expected. The fish's teeth sank into her flipper, and Pelt bellowed with pain, letting go of the fish. Bubbles erupted around her mouth before she remembered she was supposed to be holding her breath. Now, thanks to her lapse, she would have to surface to breathe soon. She couldn't see how bad the damage was through the bubbles, silt, and blood, and she wasn't sure she wanted to see it. It hurt a lot, anyway. RE: Get me out of here! - Game Master Dark - Dec 27 2020 The Redbelly pursued as Pelt pulled back--but it was clear that the leopard seal's single massive bite had indeed wounded it. Perhaps it might be lost to the chaos and churning silt, but its movements were halting now, and slower, her jaws having damaged its tail muscles. Blood further clouded the murky water behind it.
Still, its maw opened again, and gnashing jaws came for Pelt's neck area. Muscled and blubbery though she might be, it still had the potential to lacerate the massive seal's flesh. @Pelt RE: Get me out of here! - Pelt - Dec 27 2020 Pelt reached the surface and took a quick breath, her nostrils flaring and then pinching closed again. Fortunately, her lungs were well adapted to an underwater lifestyle and one breath restored much of her oxygen supply, so it didn't take very long. She turned and dove again, the movement creating a flurry of bubbles in the water, and clenched her teeth against the pain that flamed in her right flipper. It would not move the way she wanted it to, and burned with protest when she tried. Clearly, it had taken no small amount of damage. The fish was attacking again, though, so she would have to worry about that later. As quickly as she could, so that the bubble cloud wouldn't disperse before she had the chance to use it for a bit of cover, she readied herself for another attack on the fish. When it lunged for her neck, she attempted to swim underneath its attack, but her injured flipper hampered her maneuverability and she wasn't able to avoid it completely. Its fangs scraped across the side of her neck, leaving a row of shallow cuts in her blubber. Fortunately, they were not as severe as the earlier bite, but that didn't stop them from stinging. Infuriated, she lunged for the area on its underbelly, between its gills and pectoral fins. If she could damage either of those, or even just get a solid grip on the fish, she could get her revenge. If I bite it hard enough, that would probably make me feel better. RE: Get me out of here! - Game Master Dark - Dec 27 2020 The Redfang's turn was a slow one--again hampered by the damage Pelt's jaws had inflicted on its muscles; it barely had time to face the bubble cloud when the leopard seal's face thrust back through. And she came teeth-first, up from below, unexpectedly. The Redfang, a creature of instinct, found territorial hatred and hunger abruptly turn to fear as Pelt's jaws clamped around it from below.
Helpless, it thrashed--powerful but injured, vicious but unable, any longer, to defend itself. Pelt may kill the Redfang this round if she so chooses. It will struggle, but is no longer able to fight. @Pelt RE: Get me out of here! - Pelt - Dec 27 2020 Finally! she thought as she seized the Redfang, savage triumph singing through her. She'd make it pay for hurting her, and then she would have her well-deserved meal. Pelt held her jaws tight around the Redfang's belly, but she'd learned her lesson about trying to throw around such a large animal. Instead, she let it thrash around, and moved her own weight only when she came too close to its teeth. If she had trouble trying to shake a fish its size, then it would tire itself out even quicker as it thrashed with the full weight of a leopard seal attached. It was dizzying, having her head being jerked as the Redfang struggled, and it turned out that lurching through the water with an open wound on her flipper was not a fun experience at all. Pelt clenched her teeth tighter around the Redfang, biting harder with every pulse of pain and praying that it would weaken quickly. As its movements finally slowed, she shook her head, trying to do some more damage with her fangs before dragging her prize toward a tree root. Alarmingly, it was even harder than she'd expected-- Pelt herself seemed to have been weakened significantly by the fight. Eating this fish better make up for the blood I've lost, she thought grimly, tearing into the Redfang's body. Perhaps she'd have to stay here a while longer, to recover from her injuries and take as much meat as she could from the fish before it decayed. -- exit Pelt |
