Water magic, eh? Well, Madhukar certainly knew that. RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part I - Mirac - Jan 08 2021 strong language
@Aerie RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part I - Pelt - Jan 08 2021 Leo was strange, unlike any cave Pelt had visited before. Cetus, Polaris, and especially Pisces - those were colder caves, which seemed to suit her better. Pelt wasn't sure if she liked Leo's unusual warmth yet. Even in Pisces' lagoon, she had never felt uncomfortably cold thanks to her blubber. And the cool water had soothed her injured flipper, which was taking its sweet time about healing up. The wounds had scabbed over since the fight with the Redfang, of course; she'd be a lot more worried if they hadn't yet. But she still felt stabs of pain from it sometimes, which did not help her mood at all. But she had heard of this "Blacksmith" character's call for aid, and her curiosity had been piqued. So here she was, even though she was 99% sure that she would be of no help at all. Magic was not her area of specialization, and the one spell she used most often was one to conjure a banana, which she was fairly confident wasn't what the Blacksmith was looking for. But there was no need for the disclosure of that particular fact just yet. She was a denizen of these caves just like any of the crowd already gathered here. (Land animals, most of them, she noted with half disdain and half resigned acceptance. The only one who looked like it might belong in the water almost as much as she did was a huge lizard-thing with wings growing from its back: Dragon, he called himself.) She wanted to know what was going on, and she had every right to find out. So here she was, wiggling across the rock floor of the Workshop. Getting to Leo and swimming to the back wall had been the easy part, but Pelt was sure she looked ridiculous moving on land. … there was a thing among the crowd. It had started yelling, loudly: something about FIGHTing and KILLing and OHOHO LOOK AT ME I'M SO MIGHTY AND ARROGANT AND ANNOYING. Pelt was half tempted to bite it to make it shut up, but she had a feeling that would make things worse and anyway, she hadn't come here for another fight. So instead, she scooted farther away from the horrid creature and did her best to ignore it. She was not going to pick another fight. Yet, anyway. RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part I - Fahl - Jan 08 2021 strong language
For one brimful of impatience, it didn't take much beyond a warm and welcoming environment to tempt Fahl into laziness. Despite the homesickness that continued to gnaw at his gut with needle teeth, Leo had become a vacation spot for the iguana, one that promised calm times carried on the waves. Recently, though, he'd been forced from his usual activities at the bay: the random disgusting leftovers of some creature's meal littering the beach had become almost impossible to avoid. It was due to this necessary move further inland that talk finally reached him of this Blacksmith and his call for help.
He knew not of enchanting and had no ties to water beyond his shape which was well-suited for swimming. Nevertheless, being close by, lending help wasn't out of the question; perhaps, as a selfish part of him reasoned, there'd be an excuse to put what skills he did have on display. By the time Fahl arrived, limbs moving with far better grace than usual as a result of the heat, a torrent of words smacked him. It was as if he'd run headfirst into a boulder, his head throbbing with the verbal collision. He hissed, the air nearly forming an audible, "Fucking shit!" The thing making such a ruckus he glared at, eyes dark with displeasure. More than his accursed stone weighed down his tongue now, a foul-mouthed tirade ready for unleashing should stubborn adherence to image succumb to foolhardy nature. Taking a few deep breaths, the source of rage was ignored. For now. Since getting a word in edgewise proved unlikely when considering his disadvantages, Fahl waited before speaking in his typical halting fashion. "Name's Fahl. No control of water. Or—" He struggled briefly, having not used the term aloud before. "—En... chanting. But. I'm at your service." RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part I - Aerie - Jan 08 2021 Aerie had no idea why she was fond of this stupid sword. It was noisy and bratty and had no understanding or respect of anything. ”They are not lessers, they are greaters,” she said, ”Like you and me. They speak and have magic like us, too.” She flicked Mirac's blade gently and gripped his hilt, holding him close to her chest, ”Now shut up or risk being kicked out because of your noisy ass. Be silent and observe, you'll gain more knowledge if you watch and wait, scoping out your enemy before forming a strategy. Does this make sense?” Probably not, but she didn't want to start a fight with so many that would fight back. ”There are too many here to win against,” she mumbled, ”And just as a rule, try to only kill lessers or those who attack you first. Things will end better for you.” RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part I - Manna - Jan 08 2021
Kaimana didn't know Enchantment or Water magic really, but considering the fact that Levi did and he had been revived by the act of her giving him her own magic, signs pointed to Kaimana having Water magic too. Apparently, considering the amount of people here, many creatures had it, or had learned to Enchant. Kaimana had learned about Enchanting from this Blacksmith, and she probably had Water magic, so technically she should heed this call... it still felt like cheating, though.
She took up the space Levi had saved for her, looking up at him (gosh, that's right, she had to look up at him now) and smiling her big, warm smile. Text. @Leviathan RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part I - Blight - Jan 08 2021 It was a place, it seemed, for dragons. Blight was here to visit family, but had heard, through word of mouth, the call that was going out. Dread held no interest in it; his Dad-Dad had grumbled something about intending to watch from afar but to remain protecting his "shinies." Blight would have smiled at this, if he could. As it was, he had launched from the rocky outcrop and sailed the winds, lithe body dipping to and fro as he'd explored Leo more thoroughly. He liked this place. He knew Dread would accept him here, and he was debating staying; but first, there was the subject at hand. Someone was asking for help. Blight had no knowledge of enchantment and knew little to nothing of water magic, but he was curious, for sure. Magic welled out as he coasted the winds, the bacterial film along his hide thickening; the blackflies that followed him were soon clustering closely around, landing and taking off again with quiet buzzing. He set down lightly, a delicate tap of crow-like feet on the hot stone at the edges of the Forge; tattered wings folded as he looked around. There was a gathering of Gembound ahead, some shouting, and with head canted and eyes bright with curiosity, he wing-walked over to listen. "Hello," he offered to the group, as he arrived; he kept a little distance, though. He wasn't out to make anyone deathly ill. Then he simply listened, trying to get an idea from the ongoing conversation as to what was going on. RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part I - Creosote - Jan 08 2021
They had followed their sibling all the here- despite the fact they possessed neither of the magics the blacksmith had requested. They had simply followed out of curiosity, and the desire to stick close to their 'older' sibling. I observed my skin get redder RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part I - Game Master Dark - Jan 08 2021 The Blacksmith set down his hammer, and waited. As each of them came, he offered a bow of his head, a murmur of greeting; he was pleased that so many were arriving.
The strange multi-headed creature asked why he had asked them here, and he held up one clawed finger to ask it to wait. And then the Blacksmith listened to the information the others gave, tucking it all away. Carja had water magic. Tahi-shei knew enchantment. Talys--this one was offering physical help, and perhaps he could make use of that. Hmmm... Others offered their help--with anything at all, with water magic; the sentient sword shouted and swore, and the Blacksmith stared at it with blinking interest. It was Mirac that he first addressed, approaching a few hesitant steps to examine it from a slight distance. "Fascinating..." he murmured. "I did not know you were alive." What a shape to take-! There were adjustments the Blacksmith would have made, but all in all it was an interesting form indeed. A few of them had bodies that would do well beneath the waves, and this was a great relief. Others would be... passable; still others might not fare well at all. The Blacksmith looked them over, and began at last to speak. "I have... a request. A place... locked away. We must unlock it. We must free someone... trapped. Someone--important. This... will take time. But we must hurry as best we can." He hesitated for a moment, as if confused, as if briefly forgetting where he was, who he was addressing; then he rallied himself and went on. "Ahh... You are... kind creatures. Thank you for offering aid. This is what you can do... Those of you who know my magic... might enchant... Those who know of water's secrets... might help, with the magic that allows you... to breathe water. We will need that." Again he hesitated, his gentle, halting speech stretching out for several seconds before he continued on. "Others... may seek those who can fight... beneath the waves. Or learn to do so, yourselves... Or find more who can... enchant these items. And those of you who can... work metal... or find lost valuables... I ask you to create, or seek, things we can enchant. I will work at this myself... but I will need your help." The Blacksmith paused, again. "I do not know what I can offer you in return... but this must be done... to help free the one who is trapped. Will you help me-?" New characters may still join at any time, and may overhear any or all of the Blacksmith's request.
Characters are tasked with enchanting as many items as possible with Water Breathing, bearing in mind the Enchant spell's time limitations. Characters may also take part by recruiting others, by training themselves or others in underwater combat, or by creating or finding items suitable for the Water Breathing enchant. @Terror @Aran @Carja @Tahi-shei (Talys, Leviathan) @James (Haven, Aerie) @Comet @Dragon (Blight) @Madhukar @Mirac @Pelt @Fahl @Kaimana @Creosote RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part I - Talys - Jan 08 2021 Talys, to his credit, caught the Blacksmith's eye (or, at least, he assumed so) and gave him a firm nod. "I'll help you. I don't know how to enchant, but if you're willing to teach me how to work metal, I'll help you create things and collect materials. I have some things, scraps of metal I've found -- if you think they're worthwhile, I'll give them to you. I can also help scavenge from the tunnels -- I'll do what I can." Anyone being trapped was a bad thing. Besides, it was an opportunity to help someone and maybe learn metalworking at the same time! How exciting. He helped himself up with his stick, but waited to see what the Blacksmith would say to him before he scampered off to go retrieve things. Then, a thought came to mind. "Oh! I can also make jewelry! I know how to braid cord out of grass. It's very sturdy. I can make amulets and things, especially if I had some metal to encapsulate more ornery pieces of rock." |
