RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part III - Galleon - Jun 14 2021 Galleon swam back and forth, lost in the maze of the Black City. She'd gotten distracted by the object she'd found. The pretty orange stone. Galleon had played with it for a while, but by the time she'd finished with it, she'd been left in the dark. So deep below, the sound was muffled. Her cries for help unknown in the sheer darkness. She wandered the city, silent and alone, flinching at any sound in the dark. Noise caught her ears eventually. She followed it, and slowly the scene came into view. A fight in the dark, a kraken barely visible, with huge green eyes and massive pustules. The stone dropped from her jaws. Many chrysalis lined the floors, and many forming. Her first reaction was to flee. But where was Galleon to flee too? It was dark outside--cold. Nothing to see or recognize in the underwater maze. Everyone may have been hurt or dying here, but there were here. The Kraken, too, was on deaths door. She did not know who the crab was, but it was helping kill the things that attacked her allies. And she'd rather be here than alone once more. In the end, Galleon chose to assist. Tiny she may be, still a goldfish shaped blob, but she would assist. With bone sheet teeth bared, the tiny form of Galleon charged forward for the Kraken. (((Galleon is just charging into the kraken because she missed the whole talk about attacking its pustules)) RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part III - Khavur - Jun 14 2021 Well that didn't work. But it turned out... okay. Carnage erupted in the ocean; with mighty strikes the Kraken smote and was smote. People were Was she a Master? Was she... like Vargas? There was too much haze to tell; sickness, chrysalizations, Khavur couldn't feel the pain but the effects were bringing fatigue anyways. One thing Khavur could tell, however; just managed to by a hair: the labradorite was stiff. Unmoving. And in the moment of mental weakness, lethargy, Khavur's slow descent, they simply couldn't contain it anymore. The Black City turned red. Khavur said nothing via the Pattylink. RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part III - Maw - Jun 14 2021 HECK YEAH! The Kraken was shot, Madhukar got to witness the bursting eyes and rippling water. HECK YEAH!!! The exhilarating sensation, the thrill of survival and an epic display of power, the hunger for violence slicing through the cobwebs in the corners of her mind-- HECK YEAAAAAAAH-- The Kraken's tentacles and sickness bomb colliding into Madhukar all at once, taking her out in an instant. ...Heck no. Shoot. Heck. Frick!!! Well, at least she had gotten to witness her explosion. Time for a-- NO!!! Not yet, if she chrysalized down here she'd never get back up again. Then how was she going to...? Don't worry about it! She wasn't the only one K.O.'d by the Kraken. That giant eel thing was right, this was a challenge. Madhukar was glad to have actually participated. Healer duty wasn't really her thing anyways... Madhukar said nothing via the Pattylink. RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part III - Manna - Jun 14 2021 Surely not fast enough... and yet she made it out mostly unscathed? Well then. Good for her. What was not good... was how everyone around was dropping like flies. In seconds, they'd been halved and halved again (by the looks of it), and Kaimana couldn't really do much beside stand (well, you know, tread) and stare in mystified silence. Luckily, the silence soon ended. "YOU TRY TO USE MY OWN MAGIC AGAINST ME?!" Farina? Was that her. Well, they arrived in all their glory, gigantic claws making quick work of the Kraken. Immediately, Kaimana's hope was reborn. She wasn't sure if that was a signal to, I don't know, make a grand push, add the the pile of attackers, contribute something more than a pair of eyes. Some people just didn't have massive claws and a killing instinct; Kaimana wasn't sure she could do much even if she decided to try and attack. So she stayed further back and hallucinations coated her vision. She felt nauseous, but certainly this would be over soon. Kaimana could ride it out. Kaimana could do anything! As long as "anything" didn't involve smacking a Kraken. Text. Kaimana said nothing via the Pattylink. RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part III - Game Master Dark - Jun 14 2021 THE BLACK CITY
![]() The tangle of the last few seconds of fighting was fleeting, but violent: a thrashing of vibrant violet, tentacles twined around claws as if to try and tear them free, those very claws snapping and slicing wherever they could grip. And around both the massive combatants, a cloud billowed through the water: a cloud of blood, a cloud of disease, a cloud of the Kraken's desperate ink. The strikes of the Gembounds were its death toll: the blast of superheated bile melting a sizzling hole in it, Attikias's knive driven in and held, the claws and armored body of Khavur and of Galleon making their final marks. And in the background, Haven's screaming roar became a mere gurgle, a choking, airless cry of rage that seemed almost to speak for Farina herself. At last, with an impossibly large heave of claws, the Kraken was shorn, torn, and its tentacles first loosened... and then drifted limply from Farina's form. "GOOD," she half-screamed, her voice rippling through the water and through their minds. Clicking claws kicked the body aside, and the Master scuttled forward, deeper into the dark. Lights burst through the darkness, illuminating the space in which the Gembounds had been fighting: a huge underwater room, nestled in the very top of the Black City beneath Fornax, its walls and rear floor covered in brightly-colored plants and corals. It looked like a reef, if void of life--and to one side, carefully-obscured (long kept hidden by Deep Dark) lay an Oilstone chrysalis gleaming in the shadows. From the door came Patrick and the Guardian, slinking in and past the Gembounds, examining this long-lost room. Farina bustled about the back, her enormous bulk well-fitted to the huge size of this place. After a very long moment she'd plucked a large, old Tsavorite gemstone--gleaming brilliant green--from the corals at the back. There was a long silence. A silence in which the Master turned, lifting the stone, stalk-eyes staring over it. A silence in which she clasped it close to her, and those eyes closed, and a soft few bubbles at last escaped her. A shiver ran through clattering legs, and Farina murmured something so quiet it was lost to the Gembounds' hearing--but it entered their thoughts. "I missed you... my beloved. I promised--I promised-... I will see you soon." She might have stayed like that for hours, caressing the long-lost stone, had Patrick not begun to speak. "DO YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED, MASTER FARINA?" he asked, and for some reason his thoughts and gurgling seahorse voice were at absolute full volume. Farina looked to them as if she'd forgotten they were there, and then turned away, lurching back into motion. One shearing claw yanked at a lever near the back, and there was an ominous gurgling that filled the water. Water... that began to drain. Cool, fresh air took its place, though it wasn't clear from where. After a few moments, the water had, in part, receded; there were now, higher up, dry spaces along the coral-laced throne room of the Master. "'GEMBOUNDS,' THEY CALL YOU-?" Farina's many toxic eyes ranged over the battle-scarred group, judging, evaluating. She was clattering back toward them, from air into the water, regarding them closely. "YOU DID WELL. BUT THERE'S ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT," she added, tapping one massive claw against the underside of her carapace, thoughtfully. "THAT WILL BE YOUR REWARD, THEN, IF YOU WISH IT. STEP FORWARD AND RECEIVE MY GIFT!" There was a dark hilarity in her words, as much a maddened threat as a promise--but Patrick gestured eagerly toward them all. "GO, GO! THIS IS A GREAT GIFT!" he assured them, hastily. Less enthusiastic, the Guardian looked on, key clutched in its grasp--useless now--and then it turned, swimming over to inspect the old Oilstone chrysalis. Farina's mandibles moved, and a cloud of sickly green spread out before her. The Kraken lay dead. The Black City was opened. All that was left was to grasp the promised reward. RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part III - Ascent - Jun 14 2021
With the lightning cat's percussive magic, Farina's massive snapping claws, and the combined efforts of the rest of the Gembound, the Kraken seemed near defeat. But for Ascent, there was no time for a breather—they were too busy reaching for their magic once more in a frantic attempt to aid their mother.
The spell took on their second attempt, forming a roughly-sphere shaped piece of ice approximately twice the size of their palms. They took this in their talons and offered it to their mother with a rush of agitated thoughts: "It's cold—could it help make burns feel better? I'm sorry, I can't remember how the others treated burns! Are you all right? Can you still make it back up?" For once, their attention was concentrated on exactly one thing, even with the drama all around them. No longer participating or even observing in the mission, Ascent was focused only on their mother. RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part III - Esther - Jun 14 2021
Esther still felt sick, but now their eyes were able to fully capture the sight of everyone defeating the cracken along with the giant crab. They won - it wasn't like the last fight the group tried to win. They won. The group fought hard enough, was lucky enough, that they all didn't die. They completed their quest and the cracken was gone and dead. They lifted themselves - as much as they could while swimming - floating there made their limbs feel weird, every breath sent a strong pain through their entire body. They were left wheezing, but they still swam closer to the body of the cracken. RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part III - Game Master Dark - Jun 14 2021 There might have been a gemstone somewhere in that immense mass of twisted, diseased flesh. It was not, however, in the face of the Kraken.
There was nothing there but pustulant wounds, broken eyes, and blood. @Esther RE: [Quest] The Black City - Part III - Esther - Jun 14 2021
Bloodied, broken, and bruised, when Esther saw nothing they were instantly disappointed. They grimaced as they moved away from the body - it was gross - the percussive pain was distracting. Esther didn't get far before they wheezed (was that their lung?) and the chrysalis slowly builded up from their body. They didn't even notice the fact that there was light inside The Black City now - too focused on the building pain and release from said pain. |
