RE: I Found a Bird - Pride - Jan 07 2019 Pride laughed softly at Charity's comment. "You're absolutely right, and I apologize. I wasn't saying that you chose wrongly--just to remember to be kind, and to use your mind where you must. It means that you will--" The bird was screaming. Or if not screaming--crying out in pain. Smoke billowed up from her. Pride was on his feet--well, hooves--so quickly that he didn't remember standing, his nose pressed for the bird, his tongue lashing out to try and lick the spot, driven by some instinct he hadn't known that he possessed. He might even burn his tongue, should Nisha let him that close--but then, it might help just a little. At the same time, his magicka poured forth, driven by concern and not governed in the slightest by conscious thought. His intent had been to reassure her, to grip her mind and direct it away from magic with his guidance, but instead he found his emotions flooded by her fear and pain. He had not been ready, and he didn't want to spend time trying to calm it down, so for the moment he bore it. He tried his best to think to her, even as he spoke--to impart some sense of calm and self-control--but very little of it passed through the link. Instead he remained bombarded with pain and fear. "Let go of your magic," he answered at once, sternly and loudly, trying to get the bird's attention and to help her. She had to listen if she was to stop burning herself. "You're casting magic--it's normal for fire to hurt, but you're doing it yourself, and you need to stop casting it for it to stop, all right?" His tone was kind but firm, not unlike a father trying to insist that their child needed to stop jamming their hand into the flame of a candle. But he felt his heart racing in fear at the pain radiating from the bird, and for the moment, he'd forgotten all else. He didn't even notice when Mischief--frightened by what she was feeling along her link with the stag--leapt over the arm of the throne and scurried off into Orion's darkness. @Envy RE: I Found a Bird - Livius - Jan 07 2019
The weasel froze in sheer shock and flinched back in fright as the rabbit quite suddenly went bounding away. The bird-child had triggered some kind of magic- fire magic if they weren't mistaken- and was crying out in pain. Although it perhaps wasn't the best distraction, Envy was relieved that it took the spotlight away from their failed illusion. @Nisha RE: I Found a Bird - Nisha - Jan 08 2019 NOTES
A white blur neared her and she felt the ebbing I’d reassurance. But it was gone as quick as it showed. Fear that was her own went to the white blur amplifying her own fear.
![]() @Charity RE: I Found a Bird - Charity - Jan 09 2019 Charity was baffled by the chaos as the two adults tried to fix the mess the newborn had found herself in. She looked from parent to parent for a while, plopping herself down so that she was watching. Her ears perked as Envy's musical magic filled the air, and then , quite abruptly, the little bird fell asleep. Slowly she raised her head and peered quizzically at her mother, then Pride. "What's going on?" she asked, before sniffing the air. "Is it over?" Finally she stared at the bird, seemingly expecting it to awake at any moment. With no sign of motion, she scurried over, and prodded at its side with a small forepaw. Finally, she sat back on her haunches again, looking up at her parents... her gaze fixating for a while on Envy in particular. "I'm hungry. Can I get some more yellow things?" she asked loudly. @Pride RE: I Found a Bird - Pride - Jan 09 2019 Pride glanced a little sharply at Charity--not in any sort of parental, stern way, but rather in pure surprise. She doesn't even care-... no, she must just not understand, he told himself. He looked back down to the crow, focusing, and a thick mist began to emanate from him--and to swaddle the crow, focusing around her stone. It was the best he could do for water and for the relief of pain--any sort of mending was beyond him. "She hurt herself, Charity," he told the child in a calm but quiet voice. It didn't betray the hammering in his chest. He could feel a frightened Mischief tugging at the corners of his mind, frantically questioning, and he sent back distracted reassurance. Nostrils flared as he took Nisha's scent. She was definitely burnt, though how badly, he couldn't tell. "A lesson to always be cautious, with magic--Envy, do you know any sort of magic that can help?" @Envy RE: I Found a Bird - Livius - Jan 15 2019
Envy watched in amazement as their spell- in complete success- simply put the little bird to sleep. They stared for a while, stunned that the world could be so easily forgotten, and sleep so easily reached. As Pride asked his question, they thought over what they knew, and heaved a small sigh. They turned towards the deer. @Nisha RE: I Found a Bird - Charity - Jan 18 2019 Charity looked up at Pride with round-eyed confusion. "Ooh," she said, as though it was a slow realization. Then she looked down at the bird again. Head lowered, she pattered towards the bird as her mother tried to wake the little thing up. She stared, tilted her head, and nudged at the bird's side as she tried to copy Envy. Finally, aparrently growing bored, she sat back on her haunches, looking at the very least, mildly concerned. "I don't think it's working, mamma," she pointed out to the suddenly bedraggled weasel. "She's still asleep. And I'm still hungry, too..." she added. Her ears perked. "Maybe food will help!" she offered, as if it were a revelation, and not just an excuse to try and get more food herself. Curious about the sudden wetness of her mother's fur fur, she stretched out her muzzle and rubbed her face against their green side before shining back. "Ewww, mamma. You feel so gross!" @Pride RE: I Found a Bird - Pride - Jan 18 2019 Pride watched Envy closely, then slipped his gaze back down to the bird. He thought, for a moment, eyes on the drops of water, and then focused briefly. Carefully, he tried to cool the water--to bring it down to a light frost--but he could feel it shuddering powerfully and hastily released the magic before it could actually get cold. The last thing he wanted to do was freeze Envy or Nisha solid. That-... would be bad. "Hmm. Thank you," was all he said, and this at Envy. Then he curled up beside the crow, unsure as to what to do other than to remain present and offer some warmth. If she remained unconscious--and didn't die--he'd have to bring her to Amras and see if he knew of anything, or anyone, who could help. He barely noticed Charity's requests, his mind on the injured bird. @Nisha RE: I Found a Bird - Nisha - Jan 18 2019 NOTES
For that moment, that small tiny blip in the beginning of the small birds (hopefully) long life she felt as if she was okay. It was when she felt the cold wet feeling on her down feathers she shook, apricot eyes opening one after another and seeing everyone looking at her.

Envy felt their throat soon growing dry with the effort, and gulped painfully as they hastily cut off the magic. With a dry mouth, all they could taste was the metallic tang of their gem, and shivered, sticking out their tongue. Still soaked to the skin, they looked up at Pride and shivered, nodding slightly at his thanks. |
