RE: Checking Up - Comet - Aug 28 2020 Comet
Comet laughed with Mayfal. Now that she thought about it, she did sound a lot like how she described the color blue. She wondered what color the fox would be. She would have to think about that. Her ear pricked as she listened to their next question. Comet shook her fur. The bone she had been gnawing on this whole time was now a stub, so she swallowed it whole. @Mayfal RE: Checking Up - mayfal - Sep 22 2020 A father. A life-giver. If Comet was alive and had a father (but not her real one?), then Mayfal must have a father, too! But where? It saddened Mayfal to think of the possibilities and their implications. The offer to practice was a welcome change of pace. There was something that they wanted to try! Mayfal laughed, "Okay! Think fast!" They began balling up their spit form the back of their throat and spit it towards Comet. They tried to make the resulting ball of heat not too, well, hot. It would end up not being a problem, though. The hot spit flew out of Mayfal's mouth and fell after just a couple inches of airtime. Clearly, Mayfal needed more jaw strength than they currently had. @Comet RE: Checking Up - Comet - Sep 22 2020
Comet jumped to the side,
The bubbles floated up into the air, and a couple popped onto her own face. Some floated towards the fox too, and she wondered how they would react. @Mayfal RE: Checking Up - mayfal - Sep 22 2020 Mayfal's mind was racing. There were always questions they wanted to ask, but now they had to focus on battle, too. Mayfal listened and heard small pops. Pops? What was that? Mayfal could not smell or feel anything. This was some strange sorcery. They could, of course, still smell Comet. She was moving faster than normal, though. Almost as if she was...flying? The self-portrait that Comet made of herself for Mayfal did include wings. How was this possible?! "You never said you could fly!" That presented an unfair upper hand. When you're blind, things in the air tend not to exist until they're too close. Mayfal decided to track using scent and sound and knock Comet out of the air with some fiery expectorating. Alas, it seemed that they couldn't get a good enough idea of Comet's areal position without sight. What could they do? @Comet RE: Checking Up - Comet - Sep 22 2020
Comet was confused at Mayfal's confusion. Then... they came up with the idea that she could fly?
She laughed a bit at the idea of flying, that was something that birds did! What would it be like to be a bird? And fly away from the land below you? High and free... Whoops she was getting carried away. Comet felt a sudden surge of tiredness in her limbs. Whether it was from the fact that she couldn't fly, or that it had been a long day she wasn't sure. @Mayfal RE: Checking Up - mayfal - Sep 22 2020 Mayfal wasn't ecstatic about giving up just yet, but Comet sounded tired. Mayfal was starting to feel tired, too, now that they could pause. Spitting fire wasn't exactly easy. "Alright. You're gonna have to come down from there, then." Mayfal didn't know what this whole 'bubbles' business was, but they didn't like it. Mayfal liked their friend on the ground where they could smell her better. Mayfal wouldn't admit it out loud, but they were really excited for the day that Comet would be moving closer. Then, going home would mean something entirely new. @Comet RE: Checking Up - Comet - Sep 22 2020
Comet jumped once to show that she was on the ground now. Casting spells wasn't easy, and neither was hunting and all the things they had done since she had come to check up on them. It had been a very long day, and she was ready to go home.
One day though, going home would not mean going to Orion, it would mean going to Eridanus, where she could visit Mayfal as often as she wanted. That was a day she looked forward too. "Exit Comet" @Mayfal RE: Checking Up - mayfal - Sep 22 2020 Mayfal knew the way the way to their home. They didn't really need Comet's tail anymore. But they welcomed the warmth on their muzzle. and they wanted to hold it in their jaw. It was more than a practicality, now. But Mayfal didn't have a word for that. They simply accepted her tail and let her lead to way, like a game of sorts. They said their goodbyes over the stream bridge and Mayfal listened to Comet's paws trotting away. Mayfal was more tired than they had anticipated. As they went down to rest, they thought they could hear the sound of earth shifting and feel the house growing smaller. Mayfal simply thought that they must already be dreaming. They were too excited thinking about what could happen tomorrow to realize what was happening just then. ~Exit Mayfal to Hibernation~ |
