RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P2 - Tamelyn - Aug 01 2015
Things were going too fast, too chaotic for her. It was all she could do to avoid being cooked by dragonfire. The stag shouted a name, one she guessed belonged to the drake, and charged him, throwing some sort of black frill at his eyes that exploded into goop and blinded him. Tamelyn couldn't help feeling a surge of triumph at the stag's victory, but it was short-lived. The white dragon and the rhino were still fighting, and she let them for the moment. The others raged against the dragon, but she couldn't find an opening. She was shaken at the failure of her magic when it was needed most, and so, for the moment, she focused only on not dying. And then the battle was over. Raheerah roared fire, and she was forced to brace herself against the burning wind. He spoke to the stag then, finally giving Deer Dad a name. She looked over at the elk, recalling when she and Nyx had met him in their childhood, and she had asked for his name. He hadn't given it--either he had been reluctant, or had hadn't known it himself. Tamelyn's eyes widened as the dragon snapped up the rhinoceros, flinging her away and bashing the white dragon against a rock before taking flight and disappearing into one of the tunnels pockmarking the cave's ceiling. "No..." Tamelyn stood for a moment, shocked, then ran for the rhino's corpse, which was already beginning to be covered up by her gem. Despite her attacks against Nemesis, Tamelyn didn't hate her--she had only been trying to get them to focus on the real enemy. And nobody was supposed to die. "Astraea!" she shouted, looking at the stag, eyes fearful and helpless. "We gotta help her! Before--before she dies." The white dragon was still lying where he had been thrown, and it was him she ran to next, looking him over. The burns didn't look too bad, but he had a few nasty gashes. Tamelyn was too inexperienced in the workings of the body to know if they were life-threatening or not, but she knew it was harder for someone to die if they were awake. "Come on..." she whispered to herself, reaching for her magic again. She remembered Fisher showing her a trick once, using his magic to speed up her heart. She wanted to do the same thing now, speeding up the dragon's heart enough to re-awaken him... But she couldn't do it. There wasn't a single spark left in her. Breathing hard, fighting back panic, Tamelyn stepped away from the dragon and looked back at Nemesis. Two Gembounds got hurt today and she couldn't do anything to stop it. What use was she, then? "Listen to me." RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P2 - Game Master Madison - Aug 01 2015 The stag was stunned, frozen and staring at where the massive dragon had disappeared into the air vents above. Heat roiled out from the ceiling and the vents still illuminated with fire as he disappeared into the depths of the caves. The stag barely noticed the little owl following after, just an ungraceful speck among the smoke and wind. His heart pounded against his chest, screaming, aching; slowly he lowered his head to look back at the group of Gembounds he had tried to protect. Tried... Until they had woken the dragon due to their own ignorance. Tamelyn cried out a name, and on instinct the stag snapped a cold gaze towards her. Blinking a few times, he sucked in a breath and shook his head, dispelling the distance in his expression. It seemed Tamelyn was the only remaining Gembound after the attack - the owl had gone, and the black leopard too had slunk away at some point. The white dragon was left unconscious, and the rhino... The stag looked to where she had landed. Lifeless, broken and bleeding. His face sunk into sadness as he looked to the rhino and slowly drew closer, bowing his head to inspect her wounds. Her injuries were critical, but... There was still a slight heartbeat, however faint it may be. "We can't help her." He answered quietly. He could feel it, the fizzling of magic, a burning in the air of energy as the gem on her brow would begin to work furiously to repair its host. "All we can do is leave her... And hope that she will recover." The stag added with another sigh before lifting his head. "Tamelyn," The deer prompted and looked to her. "I can end this. I think... I know how. But I need help." The answer. He had it - it lingered in the back of his mind, all this time. He'd merely been neglecting it until now. RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P2 - Tamelyn - Aug 03 2015
Deer Dad--Astraea? It was difficult to come to terms with the new name--confirmed her fears, that there was nothing they could do for the rhino. She was almost totally engulfed by her crystal now, the last bits of burned flesh disappearing underneath it's glassy surface. She shivered, realizing how fragile, how mortal they all were. And she was just as fragile as the rhino, nothing special at all. She could die today, or the next day, or anytime in the future. She couldn't protect anyone. She looked up as he spoke again, claiming he knew a way to stop Raheerah--and asking for help. She didn't respond at first, unsure if she could even help at all. She cast a tentative look back at Nemesis, now encased by a gem chrysalis, and at the dragon, still lying in a heap. She certainly hadn't been able to help here. Did she really think she could stand against the drake, after what he had done here? ...But if he wasn't stopped, he'd go on to kill more Gembound. What would be worse: going down in a fight, or cowering in a hole somewhere while the rest of the caves burned? She looked back at the stag and nodded, trying to force her voice to stop quavering. "Okay. I--I'll do what I can." "Listen to me." RE: Quest: The Fiery Pit P2 - Game Master Madison - Aug 06 2015 The stag's gaze lingered on the younger piebald deer for a moment, and as her voice shook and broke, it pierced his own heart; he looked upon her with sadness, knowing that he was partially to blame for this, if not entirely. If he hadn't been here in the first place, then maybe his presence wouldn't have caused the other Gembounds to come together and make such an affair about it - maybe they wouldn't have attracted Raheerah's attention, and nobody would have gotten hurt... it was wishful thinking. He sucked in a breath and turned away. "Follow me." The stag said quietly. They would ascend from the gorges and make their way out of the room, to where he was sure the answer would lie.
