RE: [3 Kings] Finding Astraea - Dragon - Apr 10 2018

Dragon listened to the voice resounding in his mind. He had no issue with the shouting-back, since he shouted, and proudly, he bellowed out verbally to the others nearby.

"I HAVE CALLED UPON THEM. THEY ARE COMING," he declared. To Astraea, he spoke more gently. "Thank you, and may you recover swiftly." There was no indication of his suspicion of the stag or his motives--only detached politeness to their ally. He watched carefully as the stag interacted with Hera, ready to intervene should Astraea harm it--but he did not.

He then turned his mind internal again. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT SORT OF STONE, he thought-bellowed back. I AM NO MORE A STONE EXPERT THAN YOU ARE. "BRING US RED STONES." "BRING US BLUE STONES." BAH! IT IS BIG! SHINING, GLOWING WITH LIGHT. MANY-COLORED. IF THIS DOES NOT AID YOU THEN I DO NOT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO CALL IT.

Dragon watched the huge stone thoughtfully, glancing again at the little one, keeping an eye on her--and on her safety. He did not trust the weasel, nor the black wolf--and these cats, they were new. Any of them might snatch the eaglet up, and eat her. Slowly he dragged himself a few paces closer, ready, again, to stop any that might try to kill the newborn hatchling.

He was curious as to what the birds wanted with all of this. And beyond that--what would they do with the Architect? Would it be revived? How? What if they use our life force to revive it? Kill us all? ...They had better grant us flight, for this, he mentally grumbled--then realized they could probably hear him.

Ahh, hell.

He cut his thoughts off before they could reveal too much, filling his mind instead with the sound of himself blowing bubbles, as he did when bored, in the swamp.

RE: [3 Kings] Finding Astraea - Septiezal - Apr 13 2018

The mere sight of the Architect's gigantic gem sent Septiezal into speechless shock. Skahan, its owner, he must have been huge! Septiezal found that he had his jaw hung open in awe. He quickly shut it and shook his head, a little embarrassed that he looked so dumbfounded in front of all these Gembounds.

Apparently, in his stupor, the others were figuring out how move it. Unless someone knows an amazing spell, He thought, There is no way we can move this thing to Orion Then again, the birds said they only had to find it. The alligator seemed to have caught on to this and announced that he had called upon them. He heard Alniman's voice conversing with his brothers. They eventually agreed to come.

Well done.

Now all he had to do was sit and wait. He wondered what the birds would do with the gem once they had it. Apart of him feared that they would destroy it. He never knew Skahan, but as the Architect of the caves, Septiezal couldn't sit idly and watch such a heinous act. Golden wings weren't worth the destruction of such an interesting, ancient relic.

RE: [3 Kings] Finding Astraea - Sebastian - Apr 16 2018

Satisfied that the Gem was going to do nothing more than lie there, the Panther looked away from the Gem, to the stag. It was beginning to walk away, and he took a step forward, concerned. It seemed to be, or at least was pretending to be, fine, and so he looked back at Rift, not entirely sure what he was to do.

There was a sudden, loud voice that he couldn't place, coming from everywhere and nowhere. Or... multiple voices? They referred to themselves as 'we' at least. "Stay safe," he called after the stag as it moved to leave.

He wondered who the reptile had summoned (and also why he was being so loud), and decided to stick around to see.

RE: [3 Kings] Finding Astraea - Hera - Apr 17 2018

Hera

Hera was rather confused, and settled on staring hard at the Stag, trying to figure out what was going on. It was huge! and looked funny. Good funny, though, not bad funny. If it were bad funny, she felt, she'd be laughing in its face.

She flinched as it lifted a hoof, moving to dart out of the way before she could be crushed into tiny, ugly little pieces beneath it. However, the stag corrected itself, speaking down at her, and she tilted her head curiously, not flinched as he placed a hoof beside her. His head lowered down, and she felt a tug on her down as he began to sniff her.

To her surprise, he winked at her, after motioning back at the gem. She tilted her head, eyes widening. Yes, she would be powerful! She would, even if it took her until the end of forever!

And then the stag was leaving, and she watched as it walked away. Not knowing what to do next, she stumbled over to Dragon, setting herself down against one of his front legs.

"I'm speaking..."
'I'm thinking...'

RE: [3 Kings] Finding Astraea - Game Master CJ - Apr 28 2018

An ethereal shifting of starstuff in the shape of a large crane-like phoenix soared into Eridanus, leaving a trail of shimmering auroras behind its tail and wings with each beat. At its core were three gems—one red-black, one golden-white, and one silvery-blue—that rotated around each other. Its eyes were a brilliant and bright silvery-blue color, a wispy light-like smoke trailing out from them.

The Kings approached the Gembounds slowly, landing carefully near the stone-skull and bending trees in the wake of their rhythmic wingbeats.

There was no lasting damage as they settled onto the ground, tucking their translucent wings into their side and peering curiously at the stone-skull that was nearly as large as them.

"Well, it certainly is large," they commented, turning to spread a foot out across the bridge of—well, what they thought might be its nose. "Let's begin. Please, nobody near the stone now."

The gems inside of it began to rotate faster, glowing; and then, the silvery-blue stone was in the center and glowing blindingly, with the other two orbiting it at a phenomenal rate. The stone-skull also began to glow as magic began to flow from one being into the next. And perhaps all too quickly, a giant chrysalis began to form; the Kings pushed backward from where they had been, launching themselves with their wings to avoid being swallowed by the magic and the stone. The sound of creaking and cracking gemstone cut the air until the chrysalis was full and large.

Brilliant in color and size, it nearly towered over them, glowing from within to reveal the curled and contorted body of a serpent.

"Excellent, Mintaka," the Kings said with a huff. "Now, Alnilam."

Again, the giant bird moved forward. Instead of outstretching its talons this time, the ethereal being threw open its wings and began to emit a vibrant gold and shimmering aurora. The stones within its chest again began to rotate at a fast speed; until this time the golden-white stone was at the center and glowing blindingly, and the silver-blue and red stones were orbiting it at phenomenal speeds. The eyes of the bird also turned gold during this time. The sparkling gold auroras lit up the area, and surrounded the oversized chrysalis; they seemed to move through it, shimmering and glittering within it.

The serpent was tightly packed within the chrysalis, but the auroras helped find the stone-skull that had been sitting on the grass only moments before. It lit up at their touch, glowing beneath the scales of the serpent, whose image was muffled by the chrysalis stone and fluid within.

"Return," demanded Alnilam, though his words would not be heard by most present; only those that had pledged to him in Orion before, of which, only two of those were here—Septiezal and Kera. "Return." It was almost like a chanting.

And suddenly—four fiery orange eyes flashed opened within the amniotic fluid, the glow and intensity reflecting off of the sharp angles of the gemstone chrysalis and wavering fluid; still, the golden auroras moved and twisted through the air, curling around the body of the serpent within the object they had raised. Its body began to shift and twist, seemingly moving endlessly around and around itself.

"Return," Alnilam continued, the Kings' eyes snapping to the eyes inside the chrysalis. "The end does not hold you a hostage any longer. Begin anew. Return."

To say the chrysalis cracked would be an understatement; with anger and vengenance, the chrysalis exploded and sent gemshards shattering into the air, scattering around the immediate area of Eridanus. A shrieking—a roaring—shook the trees and dirt alike, the sleek and shimmering oily-colored scales of the serpent still dripping with its amniotic fluid; and all of its fiery attention on the Kings, who had reverted to the silver-eyed Mintaka.

"Skahan! We—"

"SILENCE, FOOL. I WAS NO HOSTAGE—AND THERE IS NO 'ANEW' FOR ME. BUT NOW YOU HAVE MADE ME A HOSTAGE OF THIS LIFE AGAIN!" His fury was unbound, scales lifting to reveal an orange-red hot, fiery and purple-tinged glow before closing in a wave-like pattern. His eyes, though glowing orange-yellow, bled with purple-pink at the edges where his stone shown through.

The Kings were silent, watching intently... nervous, perhaps.

Skahan hissed and spat, scales raising and closing with each large breath he inhaled and exhaled, as if the creature was ventilating itself of heat. For a moment, the two only stared at each other.

"You are needed, and then you can die and be freed." It was simple. Right? It was simple?

"WHAT FOOLISH PLANE WERE YOU SNATCHED FROM?" Skahan reeled, rearing back his head and parting his jaws to reveal large fangs. "YOU WILL JUST SLAY ME, THEN, WHEN YOU ARE DONE WITH ME? DO TELL ME, SKYBIRD, HOW DO YOU PLAN SUCH A FEAT?"

The Kings did not have a chance to answer before their eyes bled red, the stones within their chest circulating so that the red-black stone was dominant, a black aura overtaking the ethereal form of the crane-phoenix like a disease.

"YOU DARE TEST MY ABILITY? I'LL SEND YOU BACK RIGHT NOW!" Alnitak growled, the red glow within the body of the Kings' growing stronger.

Skahan barked a laugh, his eyes narrowing. "ARE YOU PERHAPS THE THREE KINGS OF ORDER?"

"INDEED, AND SO YOU WILL AID US." He replied arrogantly before he was forcefully removed from his throne, the red of his eyes fizzling and the silvery-blue returning; the stones returning to their normal orbiting pattern.

Noting this change, Skahan's demeanor shifted. "OF COURSE IT WOULD BE YOU. WELL, THEN LET THINGS BE AS THEY WILL BE." His body curled and laid over itself, then unfurled, as if he were turning to leave. "I WILL AID YOU NOT." As his body turned wholly now, his eyes caught the Gembounds in a glance. "AH, IT IS ACTIVE STILL. GOOD. THEY HAVE NOT ABANDONED US." Though, he had never seen any like... these before. His gaze lingered on them for a moment longer, then his heavy body slammed onto the ground and he slowly slithered away through Eridanus, crushing anything in his path.

[Skahan has left.]

Silent, seething, The Kings only could stare at the empty area where the giant serpent at been and gone; still, they owed a reward to those they promised it too. In the back of Mintaka's mind was Alnitak, "Look at them there, waiting! Ask more tasks of them!" but their fate had been sealed.

"Come to us in Orion," they said after some time, turning toward those it mattered to. "We have promised our pledged a reward for finding this... stone. This... creature... but our power wanes at the moment. Find us in Orion, at the Forum, where we last met. We will have rested by then, and will bestow upon you that which we have promised."

They lifted their wings and beat downward, raising themselves into the air, and flew back toward Orion to the promised meeting area.

[The Three Kings have left.]

This concludes [QUEST] The Three Kings of Orion! Characters that have previously pledged to the Three Kings and received wings from them before, and participated in this thread, may now post in the follow-up thread [3 Kings] The Gift of Flight to receive their next reward.

RE: [3 Kings] Finding Astraea - Rift (Original) - Apr 28 2018

Rift had no idea what was going on. He had no idea who any of these were. A respectable stag, a huge bird and whatever the heck was happening with that huge stone. He watched all the proceedings with wide eyes, absolutely terrified. He was not putting up with this. Not in his forest. But they were way too big, way too ancient. If they thought it was okay to be doing this, it was okay, right?

NO. They could destroy the forest, easily! He had to do something! But what? He was tiny, barely a speck compared to them!

So he was frozen in place, having stepped away from the stag to be in the corner again, staring, completely terrified. He had no idea what he had gotten himself into.

It wasn't until the huge snake burst out and began to smash his ways through the trees did Rift's confusion turn into pure anger as he realized how much the thing was probably destroying.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" He screeched loudly, as he began to run after the snake, not caring at all that he wouldn't stand a chance at all. "DO YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH TIME ITS GOING TO TAKE TO REGROW HALF THE FOREST?! STOOOOOOPPPP!!"

He sprinted away into the trees, chasing futilely after the serpent that he definitely wouldn't catch up to.

RE: [3 Kings] Finding Astraea - Dragon - Apr 28 2018

Dragon watched the massive creature forming. As it did, he swelled with the knowledge that here was one who could be trusted. It was honest! It was blunt! It was--loud!

As it insulted and defied the three "kings," he laughed quietly, yet despite muffling himself, it was still a bellow. And when it left he made a promise to himself to follow it, and to see where it had gone.

Yet... had the three not promised a gift? Do I yet trust them..? No, I do not. And their powers are great.

"I will come with you all," he declared loudly, "those who return to the birds--but perhaps now they might kill us for knowing too much." His paranoia was showing. "I will fight them if they do!"

He took one last, longing look after the beautifully-scaled-thing--Skahan, had they called it?--that had left, with its heat and its iridescence--and then offered his snout to Hera, before plodding slowly back off toward Orion.

RE: [3 Kings] Finding Astraea - Septiezal - Apr 29 2018

Septiezal gazed in awe at the wondrous sight before him. The Skahan, the architect, was a serpent just like him. For once, he wished the insufferable Mosi was here so he could see the look on his face. His younger self would given the very magicka in his stone to be as big as this. Septiezal wondered if he could become something like this giant one day.

He liked Skahan. The serpentine architect had barely emerged from his ancient slumber and already he was spitting venom. Septiezal understood, he was the same way. To be so rudely awakened was unforgivable. Septiezal felt a little guilty for being apart of it, but was mainly the Kings who summoned Skahan's ire. When the great serpent's eyes fell on him, Septiezal felt his heart pound, however, he managed to hold his demeanor.

Skahan's words echoed in his head.Active? Has it not been active before? Whoever they were had not forsaken them. Septiezal guessed this was a good thing.

In the end Skahan had rejected their command, and slithered off, destroying everything in his wake, living three, very disappointed birds. Septiezal fought back the urge to snicker. They would hold up their end of the bargain, however. Septiezal could not deny, the promise of wings sounded great. The Kings had entertained him so far, he wondered what they would do next. Septiezal smirked. "That wasss... interesssting." He confessed with an amused hiss. And with that, the python uncoiled himself and slithered off into viridian underbrush of Eridanus.

RE: [3 Kings] Finding Astraea - Livius - Apr 29 2018

Envy sat back on their haunches and listened to the happenings with a disgruntled expression. They said nothing, but soon felt the Kings' presence speaking to them, announcing that they would come, and soon. The little weasel tapped a hind foot impatiently, tail flicking, and eyed Astrea as he turned to leave, but said nothing. As they arrived, and commanded, Envy bounded away, looking for a good tree to climb for a better view. To them, though, even a meter felt like a large distance, and when they selected their tree and began to climb, they did so onto one of its lowest branches... and still felt weariness tugging at their young limbs. They watched with eyes rounded with amazement the chrysalis as it formed, gripped but appalled, simultaneously full of frustration and fascination.

Its booming voice caused them to cover their ears, wincing in pain.

Finally, it was over, the snake disappearing into Eridanus. It was only the promise of a reward from the Kings that brought them crashing back to their senses. A reward? of course, that was the only reason they were here. The little weasel scrambled down from their branch and disappeared, bounding away into the undergrowth the way they'd come, following impatiently after the Kings.

RE: [3 Kings] Finding Astraea - Kera - May 15 2018

Kera watched in a relative silence, bewildered, but only half-paying attention. Her mind drifted, instead, to very... trivial things, such as what she'd catch for eating later, or where she would nap and make her new den, seeing as tunnel N was more or less out of the question for the time being.

When the basilisk rose from the ground, the wolf turned her head towards it. Perhaps she was already napping, because she was all the way certain that that wasn't supposed to happen.

Licking her muzzle, her eyes darted to Dragon once it finally left, expectantly, and listening for the first time in a good few minutes. "I think they need us," she replied fairly uncertainly. "They didn't want to find it themselves, they wanted us to do it for them. I don't know why."

Kera knew, at the very least, that the Kings likely couldn't be trusted. They were birds, after all-- but either way, Kera picked herself up and turned tail to leave Eridanus, moving along after the birds to demand explanation.
