Harpoons and monsoons won't keep me at bay - V-Labradorite-One - Jul 16 2021

Upon getting the permission to freely roam, the first place The Labradorite had headed was Leo. Truthfully it had been to Leo before, in order to train somewhere with deeper waters. But it wasn't here specifically to train- though it probably should while it was here- instead, it was just… here. How strange.

Labradorite walked along the shore, up to its ankles or so in water. It stared out over the bays of Leo, before twisting its head back toward the forested shore. Maybe it'd explore the jungle this time? It had always gone here to train in the water, after all. Maybe it'd do it well to focus on something else, for a change.

CHARON
The very mountains whisper your name...

Charon hadn't had a very good day. He'd caught a deer and ate half before burying the rest under the sand, intending on saving it for later. What he didn't know was that the hot lights from above would bake the body and leave a rotting, execrable carcass for him to find. The smell still lingered in his nose.

He flew above Leo in a rather terrible mood, searching for someone to take his anger out on. Someone lingering too close to the little hold in the wall he'd made, or someone particularly scary looking- like that individual down below.

With a growl he angled down, aiming to land just behind them to hopefully startle the oily, leaking gembound. What even were they?

Charon crashed into the sand with a snarl, sending debris flying all around as he drew himself up to his fullest, his quills rising and his tail thumping behind him.

”WHO ARE YOU?”, he demanded, his voice booming not unlike a certain fire dragon.

Yet to have come to a decision, it simply walked along the shore, polluting the water with its ink as it wandered. It felt… increasingly on edge. Like it needed to be doing something.

It whipped around at the sound of a snarling crash, and drew up into a threat display of its own. It stood up to its full height, it's lashing tail sending splatters of oily goo flying everywhere. Crimson bioluminescence nearly identical to its eyes flickered to life along the spikes on its back.

It narrowed its eyes at the question. "My designation is V-Labradorite-One." it spoke curtly, before countering, "What are you called? What are you doing, here?

Charon narrowed his eyes and clicked his mandibles together, digging his claws into the sand, ”I am Charon! This is my beach. What are you doing on it?”

He swept his tail around and stalked left and right, eyeing Labradorite up and down.

”You look funny,” he said, ”Why are you leaking? You're getting... that into the water. I drink that water.”

He didn't want whatever nasties this 'Labradorite' had in his drinking water, thank you very much. At least he was smart enough to think of that, but not smart enough not to turn it into an insult.

What was it doing here? Well, it was still sort of figuring that out, not that itd tell this 'Charon' that. "I am exploring." it said simply. It grimaced a little at the idea of a single gembound 'owning'the whole beach. Really?

Its eyes narrowed further at Charon's 'observations' "It is Oil, I naturally produce it." it replied, not moving from the water (was it just standing here enough to ruin Leo's whole water supply? Labradorite doubted it) "You are loud, you're going to scare all the lessers away." it said, bluntly. Not that it had been planning to hunt, anyways, but it wanted to say something back to this rude stranger.

@Charon.

”So? I can fly, I can catch them wherever they run to,” Charon snorted, ”Now get off my beach.”

Was he picking a fight? Oh absolutely, fuck this random person who'd happened to cross him on a bad day. It was totally their fault for his garbage mood.

Charon thrust himself forward, kicking up sand as he hissed to try and scare Labradorite off. The sand he intended to fly into its eyes fell short, but whatever. He was still plenty scary.

Labradorite blew out a huff of air from its nose. Well, it had been feeling restless, right? Looks like this Charon was just itching for a fight.

Bring it on. It could use the practice.

"if you're such a good flyer, go find another beach." It egged him on, tensing into a defensive position as it waited for the dragon to inevitably lose patience.

It didn't typically try using magic, especially magic of this caliber, but it wanted to do something more threatening than sand.
A larger-than-average wave broke onto shore, so sudden that it nearly caused The Labradorite to stumble. Soon the entire beach was flooded with a not-insubstanial amount of water. Despite itself, it felt proud of the display.

@Charon (start the official 'fight' now?)

Charon's quills rose up and he flapped away from the rising water, snarling. He landed and glared at Labradorite, eyes narrowing.

You go find another beach!”, he said, water touching his belly as he lunged forward, head snaking forward to bite.

Charon's menacing mandibles snapped as he went for the throat, showing absolutely no mercy even on the first blow. He might not kill Labradorite but he was certainly aiming to wound enough to frighten the intruder off.

@V-Labradorite-One heck yeah
Round: 1/5
Attempt: Bite Labradorite with teeth + mandibles
Defense: Quills, back spikes
Injuries: N/A

RE: Harpoons and monsoons won't keep me at bay - V-Labradorite-One - Jul 16 2021

It jerked back as Charon struck, mandibles slicing across it's throat. Luckily the wound wasn't incredibly deep, but that didn't make it hurt any less. Hissing in pain, it reared back to retaliate with an attack of its own.

Its eyes scanned for something not protected by armored plates or sharp quills. Crimson eyes landed on the beast's great wing. Perfect.

Teeth snapped against empty air. Its tail lashed in frustration. Really? After pulling off a spell like that, it wasnt able to hit a 20 foot target?

@Charon
Round: 1/5
Attempt: Bite/cripple a wing!
Defense: Back spikes, Oil
Injuries: Throat wound

Charon hissed and bared teeth and claws, letting out a roar as he reared and swept out with his tail in an attempt to knock Labradorite's legs out from under them. There were a lot, but he had a long tail. Despite the wounds all over it from previously smacking into the other's spikes, he tried anyway, hoping to end the fight quickly.

He wasn't very experienced in battle, seeing as the most he'd fought were a couple mountain deer in rut, but he knew how to take down an especially unruly deer, so Labradorite wasn't much different. Just bigger. And more experienced.

And had really big teeth. But totally similar.

Aim for the legs and the throat, avoid the pointy bits. Those seemed to be working just fine for now. And keep his vulnerable bits out of the way, that was important too.
