A Friend in Need - Makyna - May 05 2015

MAKYNA
"life is precious"

The young lioness wandered through Polaris, marveling at the glowing lights and strange life. It had taken her a few hours to get through the whole place as she had to stop and look at everything, rendering her completely useless as to continue on with her search. Her search for what? She didn't know but her paws carried her onwards in her eternal thirst for knowledge. Soon, after she traveled from the main area of Polaris she found a pure river of flowing water. She had no word for "river" yet but she did know that it was water and that it was clear and good to drink.

Bidden by a strange new urge she approached the water and started to lap it up with her bright pink tongue. It tasted good and sweet. The young lioness finished her drink and stood up, running her tongue around her maw. "So good." She said to herself happily. Yes. Life was good and this water was good.

Now her attention turned to something new a rock that looked to have been placed there or thrown up from the river. Makyna had seen rocks before but this one called to her for some reason. It was like an voice from her mind told her to touch it. She didn't know why for it seemed to be a nothing-special rock just like all the others she had seen. Why was this so special?

She was going to ignore the voice whispering in her mind but it wouldn't leave her alone, not until she reached forward and placed her paw upon the smooth surface. It felt just like any other rock worn smooth by the water but for some reason when she touched it she felt a warmness in her gem and a strange new sensation enter her body.

Post Roll Edit: Her gem and eyes gave off a faint glow as she was able to hear and see fleeting shapes. She couldn't tell exactly what the shapes were but the voices were juvenile though she couldn't make out the words. What she could make out was the stone, the same one she had her paw on, and how the shapes knocked it into the water further upstream. Whether it was on purpose or not was up to debate.

Makyna removed her paw from the stone in astonishment. How had she just seen that? What had that been? Some sort of... of vision of the past or something? Amazing! A smile formed onto her face as she stared in awe at the stone. She was unaware of how it would look to others that wandered up... a lone cub staring at a stone like it was the best thing in the world.

RE: A Friend in Need - Fisher - May 06 2015

Fisher's confidence had been thoroughly shaken since his fall off of the Spire. His paw, barely healed, still refused to take his weight and so he walked around on three legs, left leg tucked up against his belly. He hated it, he was so slow and he wasn't able to catch or eat any tasty meat things. The mushrooms and moss were alright, though he always was unsure what glowy things were good glowies.

He hadn't left the main chamber of Polaris, simply because the only place he wanted to return to required going through the icy tunnel "H". And he wasn't about to risk getting lost or falling in the slippy tangled mess of branching paths. So instead he made his way to the Crystal Stream, where water trickled along and shimmered in the glow of the fungi. He was thirsty and injured leg or no, he wasn't about to stay thirsty.

His bright, large pupils saw the lioness as he approached, but he hardly could bring himself to care. The weird cat-- he had seen a cat before, though it was an ocelot-- was busy staring at some rock and probably wouldn't even bother him. Not that he was in the mood to be bothered, because his paw was swollen and the injury burned and throbbed with every step.

Fisher approached the edge, keeping a fair distance from the feline and making his place next to a pretty, glowing green bed of moss that was quite soft. He nestled into it and dipped his head down towards the stream, drinking up a bit. His tail curled up around his side and twitched, all too aware that he wasn't in any condition to protect himself. Sure, he had the new Spire magic-- the ability to charge stuff with electricity, but he wasn't about to go playing with it. If there was one thing the young mustelid had learned about magic so far, it was that you never pushed your luck with it. He had already fainted and got launched off of a crystal tower because of magic, and while he loved the thrill of using his gem's power, he didn't so much like getting hurt or dizzy or sick.

While Polaris gave him some sense of strength and energy, he still felt quite tired from trying to heal his wound. His muzzle dipped a bit too much into the clear, cool stream and the liquid sloshed up his nose. The small mammal snuffed and snorted, nearly breathing in some water. He sneezed and then scooted back as carefully as he could, resting his head on the edge of the stream. He felt distracted and overwhelmed, so far for him, Life wasn't good and the water wasn't even that great.

Makyna's happy reverie beside the rock was interrupted when she heard someone approach. She shook her head and took her gaze away from the rock to locate the sound. The noise came from a small, long-bodied creature with dark fur. He was almost not detectable in the gloom and wouldn't even be seen if not for the glowing vegetation and her decent night vision. He had a strange shuffling gait that to Ky looked unnatural. She didn't walk like that... Leon didn't walk like that... Why did he walk like that? Upon closer inspection she saw that one of his paws might look off but she was too far away to properly tell.

As she continued to watch she noticed that the creature seemed off in some way. He wasn't happy like she was or like Leon usually was. What was wrong? Was he that awful sensation known as sad? That was no good. It made her sad that he was sad. Her head tilted to the side as she pondered what to do. Should she just leave him? No. It would still make her sad to know that he was so close and she did nothing... but what was she to do? Her tiny face frowned up as she looked down at the ground as she thought. Quite by chance her gaze landed on the stone.

That was it! She would give him the stone! It had made her happy and since it had made it down the stream in one piece maybe it was a good luck stone! She wasn't quite sure what "good luck" was but she'd heard someone else use the word and knew that it had to be alright because it had "good" in the name. Besides, wasn't it nice when others gave you unexpected things? She reasoned with herself that it was nice.

Wasting no time the lioness picked the stone up in her mouth and moved over to stand beside the long-bodied creature. She smiled from around the stone as she stared down with her clear eyes, watching him attempt to drink. Oh, he seemed to be having a bad day... That was no good at all. Ky dropped the stone beside the gembound and nosed it closer to him. "You have stone. Stone is good stone. It is good luck stone for you." She lifted her head back up and smiled down at him, hoping that would make him feel a little better.

As she looked at him she noticed that his paw was indeed off. It was puffy and inflamed and just looked bad... Sympathy shown in the lioness' eyes and with her next words she was moved by this sympathy as well as a bit of instinct. "Can see paw? I can help." Or at least she thought she could. It would be worth a shot.

RE: A Friend in Need - Fisher - May 06 2015

Fisher had just about curled up and closed his eyes to rest, when his ears picked up the sound of the feline he had noticed was coming over. His dark, pupil filled eyes flickered over to the cat, who was slightly larger than the last feline he had met. Fisher sniffed at her approach, running a paw over his irritated nose. He wanted to get back up and stand tall, but he was fairly comfortable and having only three good paws made things difficult. He reasoned that laying down showed he was calm and in control and certainly not afraid of the young huntress, which he wasn't.

The stranger had a weird rock. Fisher's head tilted nearly ninety degrees to the side as she explained how the perfectly ordinary, boring stream rock was special and lucky. He had no idea why she was giving it to him, but he wasn't about to turn away a gift. His eyes sparkling, he reached out his good paw to pull it over to his little mossy bed and pressed his nose to it. To him, it seemed like just a regular rock, but he had been attacked by a regular crystal tower too, so.

The lioness wanted to see his paw and help. Fisher didn't know how she could help, but as long as she didn't poke it or anything, he'd let her see it. "Thank you's, I's Fisher." He stretched out his puffy paw, which still had a nasty wound on it despite his best efforts to fix it. "Climbed the Blue Thingy," he explained, using the technical term of course. "Got all the way to the top, and no one's done that a'course. Then this nasty thing attacked me and pushed me off. Hurt paw, see?" He rested his chin on the cold, 'lucky' rock. She seemed nice enough, he supposed.

"Who's you?" Fisher asked through a yawn trying to escape his jaws, his bright pink tongue rolling out from behind his teeth.

MAKYNA
"life is precious"

Makyna was pleased to see that the other creature accepted her gift to him. So much so that her smile spread to a toothy grin. So his name was Fisher. She liked that! "Fisher, fisher! Welcome, welcome! Like your name." She gave a nod and and now lowered her head to peer at the paw more closely. Climbed a "Blue Thingy"? She'd seen a few blue things but none that you could climb. What in the world had he climbed that it would be so nasty as to throw him off? "Sounds scary. Sorry it happened, Fisher." She said with a sympathetic mewl. "But first to climb to top? Good job!" It might not have been the wisest thing to climb atop a nasty-blue-thing but if he'd made such an accomplishment that no one else had done then he deserved congratulations.

Now she moved slightly closer and sniffed his paw. To her it smelled a little warm... Like Leon's warm but not good. If warm helped cold then would cold help warm? It made sense to her. She sat up and looked around the area before she remembered that she had to give her name. "Makyna! I is Makyna!" She squeaked happily with a giggle. She liked to say her name and other people's names and just words in general! It was so fun!

"Paw warm. Needs cold." She mused to herself. Her blue eyes cast around the area again. It was so dark and gloomy but then she noticed the glow in front of her. It was soft moss, she'd seen moss before. Could she use it? No. It wasn't cold on its own. Now she looked at the water, water was certainly cold but you couldn't hold water with your paws.

Her brow furrowed as she tried to solve the problem. Water would help because it was cold but you couldn't hold it with your paws... But you could put your paws in it. She knew what to do! "Fisher! Put paw in water. Water cold. It feel good to paw!" That certainly made sense to her!

RE: A Friend in Need - Fisher - May 06 2015

The Lioness was as energetic as he had been his first few days of life. It almost made him envious, because he was so sleepy and tired and sick. He was sure he would never be so miserable ever again in his life once he got better. If he did-- but of course he would! A little bruised paw wasn't about to stop Fisher, who had such big plans for his future.

Makyna congratulated him on his climb and his chest filled to the brim with pride. It was totally, absolutely worth it just for that bit of praise. He smiled, little teeth poking out from under his lips. She told him her name and he thought it might be difficult to say because it was long, but as he repeated it softly-- "Mak-eeNa,"-- he decided it wasn't so bad. It had a nice clacking noise at the start that chattered from his teeth and he quite liked it. "Makyna, Makmakmakyna," the young fisher chattered and found himself grinning. He had almost forgotten his paw until the lioness took a closer look at it.

The feline was right. His whole paw felt swollen and hot, like there was burning fire under his skin. He really didn't like it, but then after a bit of thinking his tannish yellow acquaintance suggested that he try the water. Putting his paw in the water. It was probably the smartest thing Fisher had ever heard; coming from another animal at least.

"Okay!" He replied enthusiastically, dipping his paw into the cool, crisp water. It took a little bit of effort because his head and neck were so long and well, his body was basically a thin noodle. As long as he didn't fall in, he would probably be fine... Hopefully.

RE: A Friend in Need - Game Master Talamasca - May 06 2015

The water is crisp and cool, far different from most stagnant pools found within a cave. It flows freely at a low pulse, likely energized by the flow of magicka within Polaris, like all things that venture through the heart of the caves. If anything, this stream has a bit of extra kick to it; but that doesn't affect the fisher - or does it?

At first the water is cold, yes. But the temperature seems to drop at an alarming rate. The bank seems to give out beneath the fisher, and soon enough he has fallen directly in to the stream - and is overwhelmed by the onset of the bizarre chill. The water remains rather calm, only moving at a steady and slow pace, but it seems to rise up around his body, as if trying to pull him in. The fisher is sinking - or maybe the magic of Polaris truly does have a mind of its own!

It seemed as if he liked her name too! She giggled as he played with the sounds, reminding her of when she first hatched. Was this guy a new gembound too? She hadn't thought about it before but why shouldn't he be a new one? Or newish if he'd already gone on adventures of his own. She couldn't wait to have her own adventures! Well, so long as she didn't get hurt like this poor creature had.

After Fisher stuck his paw into the water everything seemed to be going good. He should feel the effects of the coolness soon or so the lioness thought. Then he was far colder than she had hoped because somehow he managed to plunge right into the stream. The bank just seemed to give out! "Fisher!" Makyna gave a gasp of alarm and ran to the edge of the bank. There was no thought in her head about the fact that if it gave out once that it could give out again. She only wanted to help her new friend from freezing or drowning in the water. She'd never heard of or seen drowning but instinctually she knew that it could happen.

The little lioness thought about going in after him but one paw into the water showed that it was far too cold, she'd just ending drowning too and then she'd be no help at all! Instead the cub reached out was far as she could with an extended paw and cried out, "Grab paw, Fisher! Grab paw!" Her claws extended on her other three feet to keep a tight hold as she reached even further towards the fisher. She had to rescue him, she just had to!

RE: A Friend in Need - Fisher - May 06 2015

The water was numbingly cold, but the Fisher was entirely used to numb at this point. At least the pain stopped, replaced by an icy lack of feeling. Had the water been this cool when he took a drink moments ago? It was so nice...

... The water surrounded him. He didn't realize he had slipped in, perhaps from the fever he was getting, or perhaps from some magick. It soaked through his fur, as he tried to blink the blurry film from his eyes. On instinct, the fisher peddled like a dog back to the surface, coughing out the water he had almost breathed. He felt his body lose every ounce of heat it had, as if someone had cut him open and the warmth was seeping away like a gushing wound. He wanted to panic, but he felt... Sleepy...

Only the call of the young Lioness snapped him out of it, just a brief cry before his head went under again. The current was slow and calm, yet something Dark was trying to pull him in, he was sure of it. As much as he wanted to resist, his willpower was fading.

He had to breathe, however, and his limbs kicked him up frantically, getting back up to the surface. Sputtering, his brain made sense of the words Makyna had shouted. His copper eyes focused on the blurry shape of a paw. He flailed out with his injured paw and pushed with his hind legs, but he didn't think he could grab with anything and stay afloat... Except for his teeth.

So the weasel-like animal did the only thing he could, and with one more push towards the paw, he tried to snap down and latch on to the paw of the lion. Hopefully he wouldn't hurt her too much, but he was losing feeling in his paws and he was sure if he didn't get out... Well, the water would claim him.

Fisher really scared her! It looked like he was giving up and was just going to let the water swallow him up. The thought made her want to cry especially since this would have been her fault. If she hadn't told him to put his paw in the water then he wouldn't be in this situation now! Oh, he just had to make it... He just had to! To be lost forever in the water... that just wouldn't do!

Ky reached further for the fisher and saw that he had seen her offered paw. "Come on, Fisher... Come on..." She mumbled as she reached for him. Then, salvation, he grabbed onto her paw with his teach. Yowch! That hurt. At least he had a hold to her though, that was good. Now was the difficult part of pulling him back to shore. If she was bigger and full grown it would be no trouble but now with how small she was it was a bit hard.

Somehow though she was able to make steady progress with pulling and on a whim she reached forward with her tiny fangs and grabbed the fisher's scruff. She pulled and pulled and before long was able to get of them to shore. The little lioness made sure not to leave them to close to the edge though, she didn't want her or her friend to fall in again.

"You okay, Fisher?" She asked with concern as she crawled over to him. Her breath came in pants as she was exhausted from pulling the creature... but she was happy. She'd rescued him! Poor Fisher was just so soaking wet and no doubt cold so she began doing what came natural, licking his fur and lying close to him to help his temperature get back up. The water didn't feel nice but she didn't care, she'd suffer through the cold water if it meant helping Fisher out.
