Two massive green eyes peered out from within the bushes, gazing out on a new world. They focused on a lesser snake creeping through the grass, searching for a meal. Their pupils, already large, widened even more, until their irises were almost completely gone.

A harpoon-like tongue shot out of the creature's mouth, spearing the lizard and dragging it into their massive maw. They swallowed it down, their form returning to the shapeless blob it had been before, blinking slowly. Then it crept out into the open, shifting until it looked all the world like a black kitten, though only a silhouette could be seen. Four short legs, a tiny tail, and round ears atop their head.

As they toddled along, they meowed, though the sound wasn't much more than a squeak at the moment. They looked around with their giant eyes, inspecting their environment curiously. Upon seeing a rock they immediately pounced on it, trapping it beneath their paws. This was theirs now.
