[Hatch] A Cloudy Beginning - Yanyue - May 04 2024

Despite the chrysalis of Labradorite being on a beach, the air on this day turn felt oddly parched. High above, rolling clouds loomed in the air. Magic would feel oddly heavy on this day, as if affected by the very weather itself. Then again, what was weather, when one lived in a magical cave system?

The being inside the chrysalis had not yet seem the clouds, felt the parched air, touched the sand of the beach on which the not-too large chrysalis jutted. They had not yet cast magic. They were still contained.

But they were thinking, now, aware enough to know that they were contained. Their world was limited to the gemstone walls and chrysalis fluid, but the creature inside thought they wanted to be free, even if they hardly knew what that word meant.

With a thought, they felt magic come easily to their whim, and a short blast of air broke open their chrysalis.

They were free, and their form wet with chrysalis fluid shifted in shade as the weather exposure hit properly. Their scales, formerly a pale grey, became a darker hue.

But they did not notice. Instead, they found themself wondering what it meant, that they were now free. Did it simply mean an exposure to the world? Yet, the word freedom carried with it positive connotations, and they pondered this too.

Was exposure good? Being exposed meant vulnerability, which meant the ability to be hurt, even if the foot-long noodle child was not sure what that meant exactly, they knew that was bad. And yet freedom was good.

They glanced around, seeking an answer in the sands and water and clouded sky. Was this all there was to see?

The beaches of Leo, September had found, made for some good running ground. Open and predictable, without any particularly nasty snakes or creatures hiding in brushes, rocks and stuff were easy to see, and the sand cushioned falls better then stone. And Leo was a nick, bright, open cave. Mostly. Usually. Today, not so much. But he still could let loose some energy, bouncing across and down the beaches, over and over again, the wind rushing behind him, bringing an almost lift to his hooves.

The sight of something hatching, there suddenly being a baby in the way, had September skidding to a stop before he went crashing and tumbling right into them. "Woah!" he cried as he almost threw himself over with his own sudden stop. But now he stood in front of a little guy - predator, by the look of his fangs and claws, but little. Relatively.

He cocked his head. "Well hey there. You hatched here?" Due, obvious question. There were literally shards of chrysalis sitting around him. He didn't know how to deal with kids (forgetting the fact that he was, in fact, still a kid).

The foot long scrawny noodle child looked up at the sight of the being stumbling to a halt before them. They blinked, thoughtful. Apparently there were more beings in this world, not just sand and rolling clouds.

Well, that was better than being alone, they were fairly sure. Being alone sounded like a word they didn’t like. Their introspective mood was mildly infectious, though they were unaware of the pheromones spreading through the air near them.

It didn’t occur to them to speak until they were asked a question. ”Oh!” They gasped, a bit awed by their own capability to make sounds.

Yanyue nodded. ”Yeah,” they tried out the word, testing it on their tongue, thoughtful to the feel of a word, let alone their first real one. ”H-Hi…” Words felt a bit clumsy, but they were trying.

They concentrated on attempting to phrase a question. ”You… no, How you go… No… How do you go… fast?” There was an intense focus to their expression as they corrected themself over and over.

There was probably another word they could add in there for clarity, but they were still gathering themself and their tangled thoughts. But there seemed something extraordinary about the way the other had been moving fast.

"Heh." September couldn't help it, letting out a small chuckle. The kid was so cute!! Did he struggle that much to talk when he had first hatched? He could barely remember, he'd been doing his best to fill his days with activities to stave off boredom. And despite him having to wait an extra long time for the newly hatched gembound to get a single sentence out, this was far superior to just wandering.

He waited patiently for Yanyue to get through the sentence before he chuckled again. "I can show you. Watch - or, feel for it, I guess." He stepped up next to the little dragon and called for the wind again. A brief puff of wind blew from behind and September leaped forward, racing a few paces away. "I use the wind to go fast! It's magic! You try it too!" He was, of course, referring to his own wind, for the dragon to summon, unsure if it possessed the same magic himself. IT should be enough for both of them to use, if not.

Their intense focus shifted from trying to get words out to observing the other with their big, curious eyes. Telling was all well and good, they thought, but there was something special about showing.

Yanyue felt the wind, and it was like their wind, but a bit different. Could Yanyue do this too, they wondered? The other seemed to think so, or at least that was how Yanyue interpreted matters.

The child reached for their own magic, as the other called it, and it worked! They gasped as the wind picked up around them, and they excitedly ran circles around the other gembound until the spell wore off.

”Magic’s so cool!” they proclaimed earnestly.

September was a little surprised when the kid suddenly took off, summoning their own gust of wind to push them forward. His eyes sparkled with delight as he realized that they had similar capabilities. He wondered if he could teach this kid some stuff. Like be a mentor to him. That'd be pretty crazy, huh.

"That's pretty neat!" he praised. And then, not to be outdone by a literal baby, he crouched almost playfully. "How about this one!" But as he summoned for more powerful winds to blow by them...nothing happened. There was the slightest breeze, as if something was offering an apology, and he stood up with a huff. "Uh, well, it doesn't always work. You gotta get used to it."

He shook himself out briefly to cover the moment. "Anyways, I'm September. You got a name, kid?"

The rolling clouds had cleared quite a bit over the course of the conversation, and while it at first might have seemed like simply a shift of lighting, the scrawny dragon was now undeniably pretty much a pearly white color instead of the dark gray of previous.

"Thanks!" the child beamed brightly at the other's compliment of their magic, happy to hear such. They watched with wide, curious eyes as the other attempted another magic skill, presumably, only for it to end up not working. "S'okay! It'll work next time!" they cheerfully try to reassure the other.

"September!" they cheerily announce the name, now fully in their cheery mood with the shifting weather. "I have name- a name. I'm Yanyue, September!"
