Pretty please, portal? (part one of many probably) - Yanyue - May 13 2024

With a gleeful laugh, Yanyue was flying weakly through Gemini for fifteen seconds. They landed near the magic portal.

Yanyue had remembered what Diem had suggested they do, that being return to the portal to ask it nicely for cool stuff. And so the little dragon was here yet again to do exactly that.

"Excuse me, pretty magical portal," Yanyue politely started. "I would really like something cool, if you'd be willing to give me something? It doesn't have to be as cool as Diem, I'm sure you're tired from that much coolness acquiring, but like... something small and cool, maybe?"

They turned pleading eyes on the mysterious rift, which was, of course, not a living being (So far as this writer is aware, at least, it occurs to them that it could actually be).

"Please?" the dragon asked.

While the portal was indeed not a living being, Yanyue happened to be in the right place at the right time. From the portal hurtled a crumpled leather bag, clipping Yanyue's body and quite possibly sending the young dragon drifting toward the waterfall. Luckily, Yanyue had not been stabbed by the bag's contents: bits and pieces of steel shards, the remnants of an old sword, though the bag was tied safely shut with a drawstring. If Yanyue inspected the pieces, they might discover faded, gilded lines etched into the steel. It might have been the sword of a high-ranking commander or used for some kind of ceremony. A skilled blacksmith may be able to repair this weapon. The bag with its contents weighs roughly three pounds.

Due to the dragon's light weight, it was not hard for them to be pushed towards the waterfall as an item fell out towards them. But they recovered from that with quick enthusiasm, turning upright onto their legs and hurrying over to see what the magic portal had gifted them.

It looked like a bag, which in itself was amazing. But, as Yanyue studied it, they realized there was something inside the bag, and careful handling of the bag allowed them to pull it open a bit and study the insides. Metal! Pretty metal at that, but broken, definitely broken.

They thought of how the Blacksmith repaired broken things with gold and silver, and they reclosed the bag carefully, and began to bring it alongside them.

Even if the item inside wasn't something they could use, Yanyue would be happy to give such a project to the blacksmith. It looked like it had the potential to be so very beautiful, after all.

But the bag... that could be Yanyue's, to store any future finds. Yes, that was a good idea.

Picking up the bag, Yanyue tried to summon the wind to hurry their feet. Sadly, the wind was not particularly cooperative today, but Yanyue didn't mind.

They dragged the bag by the drawstrings, prepared for the trek ahead to go to the Blacksmith. But not before they turned to the portal and bowed. "Thank you for the gift, magical portal!"
