Precious as a Sunny Day - Mocha - May 21 2024 Mocha 'Cause I'm having a good time There was sound, somewhere. Water rushing... too far, too quiet. But closer... The sound of cracking, hairline fractures at first. That was near, wasn't it? Were they awake? What was awake? Hm... No, too dark. Not awake yet. But still... What, then? Becoming. They had not been here before, and now suddenly they were, tail curled under their belly and tickling their nose. They had a nose! Yes, a very squishy nose! Ah, but he could not reach it with his paws. Crack. His? Paws? Oh he was already discovering so much! But in such a tight space, what more was there to see? He tried to turn, to look behind himself, but the shell he was encased in was much too tight to allow for such movement anymore. Anymore? How strange. They were breathing. Slow, shallow breaths. And they were moving, tiny little kicks at the thinning stone that encompassed them. It was weakening, every breath, every shift sending little fragments to the bottom of the trench they had grown in. Water flowed in, colder than their chrysalis fluid had been, and... grosser, too. He almost wished he had not broken out. Oh, but there was so much more room here! For a creature only half a foot tall, and twice as long, the trench they had found themselves in seemed massive! And the surface... Oh it was "Pretty!" Oh, was that him? It was! On the high side for a male's voice, it was loaded with excitement. The lights in the cave were flickering and flaring, reflecting off the thick mist in little rainbows and sparkles. More? There had to be more here! More pretty, more fun, more... food? Apparently growing was a lot of work! A few heartbeats sounded in his ears as he poked out of the water, and he happily began to wander towards the nearest sounds, waddling unsteadily on disproportionate legs. RE: Precious as a Sunny Day - Fahl - May 22 2024
For all that he had grown fonder of his second watery home over the cycles, certain areas of Cetus continued to demand more grudging tolerance than others. While mutated tail fins and his natural predisposition to semi-aquatic life made navigating its dark waters and catching fish a cinch, especially in warm weather which drove him here over his frigid native Pisces, the pervasive mud of the marshland remained a burden when daring to wander the cave. Fortunately unusual escapades did have their purpose beyond confounding him with new, distressing alterations of his body: sometimes they granted power to use for great benefit. After having witnessed Imp's much deserving of respect father fly on magic-crafted wings, sporting wicked horns conveying his might, Fahl could at last proudly declare ownership of a similar method of transport. Feathers formed of pure white light had borne him above the muck and settled the iguana in a damp area hosting surfaces most suitable for certain activities to practice. @Mocha RE: Precious as a Sunny Day - Mocha - May 24 2024 Mocha 'Cause I'm having a good time It was Fahl's unsteady heartbeat that drove him towards them, curiosity a driving force in the little shark-dog's mind as he wondered why this one sounded different. They moved quietly, not intentionally but rather due to the fact that their paws were soft and shock-absorbing, and they were at most a foot long at this point. They moved slowly, too, ambling along and enjoying the ever-present mist on their skin. It kept their gills moist; another discovery! They were still half in a dream world. Waking up for the first time was the hardest thing he had ever done after all. Adventure, fun, and food were all more pressing thoughts, though, and so he continued on. "Lots of yellow!" He chirped, unhelpfully. He stopped a few steps away, tucking his too-long tail under himself to lay on as a built-in cushion. The mural was bright and beautiful to the little pup, and they wanted to be comfortable while staring at it. "Friend," He spared a glance at the painter, beaming at the word. He liked it a lot. Maybe he'd use it more! Find more friends! "Can I make rocks yellow too?" Were there other colours of rocks? Was Fahl the only one who could make coloured rocks? Oh, he hoped not! He wanted to paint too! RE: Precious as a Sunny Day - Fahl - May 24 2024
Besides the many rocks available to provide their surfaces as canvases, this part of Cetus had a certain amount of seclusion Fahl preferred when messing around with an endeavor such as this, slightly more artistic than the usual magic testing. It saved him from the embarrassment of multiple failures on display; unlike certain Gembounds he knew, converting disasters to triumphs had never been his strong suit. He'd rather make himself scarce on those occasions, the yawning void left by his disappearance hopefully enough to swallow any unfortunate memories of him as well. That considered, to say another voice entering his internal monologue was a surprise would be a tragic understatement. @Mocha RE: Precious as a Sunny Day - Mocha - May 24 2024 Mocha 'Cause I'm having a good time "Hi!" He chirped again as the other made eye contact. It seemed like the right thing to do. Other than that, he listened attentively, eyes focused on the blinding brightness of the yellow rocks. He didn't seem to have much room in his head for anything else, and anytime he found his attention slipping, he lost some of the conversation. "Better than grey!" He beamed up at the iguana. The word magic sparked in him, like it should have some meaning. Like... The little guy's face scrunched up in concentration, as if trying to remember the name of a song from long ago. Song, sound... The heartbeats! Their gills lit up, bioluminescent glow the same bright seafoam green as their eyes, and his very own magic jumped at his call. But... No colours, not from this magic! He shook his head to clear it, the sounds too overwhelming this time. He could almost hear further than he did before, and further meant more creatures. "My magic doesn't make colours." He declared, shifting to swipe a nubby paw at his aching ears. Said ears, much like an owl's, were only barely visible holes in the side of their head. "But paint? Do you have any? Can you make other colours?" The tail they were laying on tried to wag, but only succeeded in unbalancing him, leaving him in a heap on his side. He giggled, plopping right back on top of it. "Can you draw..." His face scrunched up again, and he made a variety of quiet humming sounds before he spoke back up. "My stone?" He had yet to see it, but he could feel its weight on his back, and he just... knew? There were lots of things that came to him naturally, but a name had not yet been one of them. Should he ask the iguana their name? Maybe it would give him an idea! RE: Precious as a Sunny Day - Fahl - May 25 2024
It would seem that today was designated a day for firsts. Bioluminescence might not have been a fresh concept for him to grasp, but nevertheless glowing gills took Fahl aback. In an unintentional mimic, while he watched the strange soft-bodied creature pull a face, his hue-shifting scales briefly flashed mystified violet slashes across his hide. They returned to their default black once the other made a declaration of their magic's decidedly colorless nature, in conjunction with a possible understanding of what he had witnessed. @Mocha RE: Precious as a Sunny Day - Mocha - May 29 2024 Mocha 'Cause I'm having a good time The iguana's colourful display did not go unnoticed, but it did go unspoken about. Mocha's attention was already drawn back towards the yellow. "Special!" He liked the word, repeating it without much need to. Maybe it would be taken as a compliment. He listened eagerly to his art lesson, nodding along wide-eyed, although he couldn't ever not be wide-eyed, as they explained what he would have to do to make paint. "Other places?" The idea of more colourful places intrigued the little pup, as it seemed everything did. More places would mean more friends, wouldn't it? More special things? More fun! "Better places?" He added, trying to clarify. "Woah! Pretty!" It moved! The red on the rock moved, pulsating in time with his own heartbeat. He could almost hear it, the gentle thrumming. Was his stone really so impressive? And gold?! He liked the idea of being shiny. "Forgot!" Mocha stood up suddenly, shocking himself into another tumble. It was not a long fall, given their height, and they bounced back up as suddenly as they had fallen. "Your name, friend?" He was not one of many words, as irritating as such a thing might be for some. He would learn to expand some day, and maybe even entertain more full sentences, but for now he would only speak as much as he needed to to get his point across. It was a lot of work, talking. RE: Precious as a Sunny Day - Fahl - May 31 2024
"Yes, better." Fahl nodded, the questions asked of him allowing some more words to be spared on the topic of ideal locations for paint materials. "Most shouldn't be too far away from here in fact." Of course, when he said this, the distance a freshly hatched Gembound could cover was not taken into account. Instead the assessment was determined primarily by personal experience, the travel times for swimming, walking, or flying via magic reliant on a single iguana subject. @Mocha RE: Precious as a Sunny Day - Mocha - Jun 06 2024 Mocha 'Cause I'm having a good time The shark-dog was glad that the better places were close. Not that he knew they would actually be quite the journey for his little legs. There wasn't much they weren't glad about, to be fair, except maybe the mud and murky water. It kind of smelled, and not in the good way. He made some soon-to-be-forgotten mental note about Polaris and Eridanus. "Why?" The words 'not' and 'safe' were simple enough, and the little guy would try to avoid the place, but you couldn't blame him for wanting to know why to avoid it. Was here not safe? It couldn't be, he made a friend already! That had to mean here was safe, right? Where was here? Hm... Speaking of shiny, the golden hue Fahl took on was beautiful! They shifted colours as easily as they seemed to summon them. Could he do that? Surely not! It had to be something to do with this paint or magic business, right? Maybe he would be able to once he found something colourful in Polaris! "I like Fahl!" It was unclear if he meant the iguana or his name. "I am..." Who was he? Were names always sounds? He didn't like the idea of being called Splat (like when he fell in the mud) or Th-thump (like heartbeats) or any other sound he had heard so far for that matter! They were all so- "Mmm..." He hummed, morphing the sound slowly into... something. "Ma...Mo...Mock... Moch...a!" Oh he liked that! Mocha! It felt energetic, just like him! It was perfect! "I'm Mocha!" He declared with an enthusiastic wag-thump of his tail. It was a little too heavy for him to keep off the ground for long, and had become covered in mud. So had the rest of him. "Where is Polaris?" Even if he was only given a vague direction, Mocha figured he did not want to walk towards the scary cave and would much rather know how to get to the colourful one. It sounded nice, too. Polaris. He liked the 's' sound; it made his tongue feel weird! He was not a creature of many words, at least not yet, so he would hold close to the ones he liked best. He would remember Fahl, and he would remember Friend, and he would remember Polaris. Oh, and Mocha! Couldn't forget that one! RE: Precious as a Sunny Day - Fahl - Jun 10 2024
How best to elaborate on Eridanus's issues? He kept the matter brief, not wishing to exhaust his tongue on mechanics he himself didn't know the full breadth of: "Parts of the place are coated in a... white substance. You won't think like yourself if you eat or breathe it in." @Mocha |
