A Purposeful Visit - Alek - May 27 2024

Once Alek had arrived at the tunnel to Fornax, a familiar passage he had taken before, it had not taken him too long to spy the gemstone pillars from his vision.

He glanced around, gaze searching for the being from his vision. "Hello, my name is Alek. Is someone here? I heard that there might be a purpose I could find, here," he stated, musical voice clear and yet polite as he called out.

His heart felt in his throat. Purpose was something he wanted, but he was afraid he would not be allowed purpose, that he would once again be denied for one reason or another.

Even a temporary purpose would be nice. Just... something.

Momma Bolormaa was shuffling about just beside one of the pillars. In her arms was a wreath of flowers, sweet-scented and white-petalled, interlaced with green. She paused in the act of reaching up to hang it on the pillar and turned, blinking.

"Hello? Hello," she called over. She turned, then, tucking the wreath under one forelimb and shuffling Alek's way. "Err, I'm sorry, who sent you? Not that you're unwelcome, of course-... You are welcome. Nice to meet you, Alek. You can call me Momma Bolormaa." She seemed polite, but confused, and strangely melancholy; as though she wanted to help him, but was just a little bit distracted.

Who had sent him, he wondered. That… was a question. It wasn’t Erasmus that had sent him here, for all that the vampire had made a wish for him. Was the wishing from a being? He didn’t know either way.

”I do not really know who sent me, but I thought you might need help? It is hard to explain, but I was searching for a purpose of sorts, and I thought I might find one here. I am not sure how or why… or what this purpose might be, but… I am here.” He only hoped that made some bit of sense.

”Thank you for the welcome. Is there indeed a way I can help, Momma Bolormaa?” he inquired, his voice musical as ever, in its own masculine way.

To say that she looked baffled was an understatement. She looked lost, and again, it seemed more than just the present conversation. At length she distractedly shook her head.

"I'm not sure I understand. I am-... Well, do you know where you are?" she asked, sitting back a little. There was a weariness to the question, and her gaze strayed to the wreath, which she raised up to her chest. A little paw gestured out at the Union Pillars. "That is-... do you know what these are?"

Beginning from basics, by necessity.

"I am not sure I understand it very well, myself," Alek admitted, his musical voice wry. "My apologies for any confusion I bring. I just... want to help, somehow?"

At the question of where they were, Alek paused, looking at the location more closely. Somehow, he rather doubted the answer was 'in a tunnel, near some gemstones'. There was a meaning to this place. He studied it carefully.

There was also platform, yes, with a sweet scent. It seemed a very deliberate location. A place with purpose. But more than that, was hard to discern. "I do not know. My apologies, yet again." He bowed his antlered head. "Would you be willing to explain? I can tell... There is some kind of purpose here, yet I do not know of it."

Momma Bolormaa shuffled back to one of the pillars, and set the wreath carefully at its base. She lifted a paw to press against one.

"Of course I would." She had a kindly tone. "These are the Union Pillars. Long ago, we established these... myself and a few like-minded friends, to hold bonding ceremonies between those who loved one another. The past was a different time," she mused. "Not everyone wanted to think about love. Those who loved were... often those who were hunted. Or had to meet in secret. They didn't have much time to concentrate on such things." She smiled a little, and turned back to Alek, dropping her hand.

"They've been used in this era. I think it's a kinder time. So far, anyway," and here she laughed. "But today was... I was not setting up for a bonding ceremony. I was remembering those who were here when these pillars were risen."

She fell a little quieter, glancing back at them. "I don't know about 'purpose,' but... if you don't mind helping an old lady who has little else to do... I was looking for a few things to remember them by. Certain flowers, things of particular colors..." She sighed softly again, wringing her little hands. Then, very quietly--eyes trained on an old, chipped pillar--she said, "I think I forgot how large the caves can be."
