A Smith is Needed - V-Onyx-Three - May 27 2024
Onyx-Three frequented Pegasus for many reasons. Mainly hunting, but he also came at times to collect supplies now that he had more smith duties. It was now that they were crouched at the edge of the river, investigating the rocks there. They could potentially be used for arrows, or perhaps ground down for other usages? He had with him, too, his bow and arrows as well as dagger. There were meadow deer here, so it would not be wise to come unarmed.
It didn't take long for them to find a cluster of rocks to collect. They waded into the river and bent down, holding onto the rock. Then they tugged backwards with all their might. But the water made the rocks' surface slippery, and their fingers lost their grip at the same time as their feet lost balance. Splash! Onyx-Three fell back right into the river, soaking them head to toe. Off to a great start, huh.

Erasmus was holding the lightweight armor, and they had paused to think. They had found a gembound, like the dragons they knew yet not, practicing magic outside of Pegasus, a sort of air shield, and immediately Erasmus had known that was the right magic for their armor.
Defensive, not meant to hurt, simply to protect. The vampire had asked the maybe-dragon if they would help Erasmus, and Yanyue had agreed when Erasmus had explained they needed magic. But Leo was a bit of a distance from here, and they weren't sure whether it would be right to impose upon the Blacksmith about this.
So they had headed back into Leo to collect the armor where they had hidden it, having not wanted to carry it everywhere and make themself a target for the prize of armor.
They had been lost in thought, and then they heard a splash, like someone falling, and they jumped up. "Yanyue, heard fall," they told the odd dragon gembound they had met. "Erasmus look, maybe help if need."
Then they darted off, still holding the armor, and swiftly ran. They were startled by the sight that greeted them when they arrived. "Onyx-Three?" they half-stated, half-questioned. Then they remembered hearing a fall, and they saw that the fur on their friend was a bit wet.
Erasmus gently put down the armor, hurrying over to Onyx-Three with a concerned gaze. "Onyx-Three hurt?"

Yanyue had been practicing with their magic, a bit further from Leo than they usually wandered. They would be back in time for their brother's reemergence, they were determined to be, but in the meantime, it was hard to around Leo and Gemini both.
While they had been practicing the air shield spell, another gembound had approached them, introduced themself as Erasmus, and asked for their help with magic. Yanyue had agreed, of course.
But it seemed that Erasmus was unsure how to move forward, and they had paused to think after collecting the armor. Suddenly, Erasmus's attention had been caught by something else, and following a brief, raspy explanation, Erasmus had darted off.
And Yanyue had decided they wouldn't be left behind. With the power of air on their side, they speedily arrived at the same time as Erasmus, just about. They glanced between the new gembound and Erasmus with curiosity. "Hi! Are you a friend of Erasmus?" they inquired cheerily.

He got back up, blinking the water from his eyes. Luckily the fisher fur they inherited was mostly water resistant, so they weren't soaked all the way down to the skin. Wait-- Erasmus? "I am alright. Nice to see you Erasmus." Onyx-Three didn't know they ventured so far from Cetus, having never seen them beyond that cave apart from the time they went to Orion.
But before he could inquire about this, a dragon appeared. Or at least, he thought they were a dragon. They didn't look to be from Alek's family, though it was also possible for there to be dragons unrelated to Alek. He hadn't thought about that before. "Yes," he paused, peering at the both of them before continuing, "Are you also friends?" He was curious as to how they met, or became friends, if they were. Erasmus was really getting out of their shell, meeting new gembounds and all. Onyx-Three was happy for them.
Ah, now names. "I am V-Onyx-Three," he replied, then gazed expectantly at the dragon indicating they were curious to know their name as well. "What brings you both here?"

At the question of friendship, Yanyue eagerly chimed in, "Yes, we're friends!" And if this gembound was Yanyue's new friend's friend, then perhaps he was Yanyue's friend as well, by association. Friendship came easily to Yanyue.
"We were getting Erasmus's armor! They left it here, and they just got it again, when they heard you." The dragon nodded towards the lightweight armor the vampire had placed down nearby but far enough from the water to avoid it getting damaged. "I'm supposed to put some of my magic into it, because it gets cooler with magic, I think! ...To be fair, everything is cooler with magic, but, y'know. It gets especially cooler," Yanyue stated happily.
"But we still need a gembound that can... make my magic stick to the armor, I guess? Enchant it, and all that," Yanyue nodded enthusiastically.
They tilted their head at this V-Onyx-Three. "Do you know anyone that can do that?" they wondered.

Before Erasmus could deliberate over whether the odd young dragon would consider them friends or not and answer, said odd young dragon was already answering the affirmative. It made Erasmus duck their head a little shyly for a moment, but they nodded in agreement after a pause. "Yanyue is friend," they agreed, as well as introduced the dragon by name.
Perhaps Yanyue would get along with Whisper, they considered. They should introduce the two, both young dragons in their own ways. As they thought, they listened to Yanyue's explanation of their purpose, relatively thoroughly.
"Alek wish to protect Erasmus," they picked up the armor. "Armor appeared. Armor has... hidden magic. Only shown when enchant. Yanyue has a magic that protects.... Erasmus thought would be good for armor. Yanyue kind to agree to help," they added what wasn't included, or at least not fully included.

So they were friends, that was nice. Onyx-Three had only ever had experience with weapons, really, and hadn't ever considered that armor might be something useful to make as well. They shook themselves off, little droplets flying off around them. There, dry. Now that they weren't too worried about potentially damaging the armor, he walked closer to investigate it. They were about to ask where and how Erasmus got this armor, but remembered that they mentioned a wish. Was it just like the wish he and Alek had made together? Onyx-Three absentmindedly reached up to brush their fingers against the necklace.
"'Cooler.'" They repeated Yanyue's words. "I can try to help make it 'cooler.'" Onyx-Three knew the Blacksmith often did enchanting, but it was something they hadn't tried themselves. Not to mention, it involved magic, a tricky thing. But he also wondered what would happen to the armor after he enchanted it, though he thought just an enchantment itself would make it very cool.
Onyx-Three knelt down, and focused very hard upon the armor, trying to draw upon his magic, but none came. "Enchantment is difficult. I apologize. This may take several tries."

Yanyue gave a delighted gasp as V-Onyx-Three stated he could do the cool magic. "Oh wow, that'd be awesome!" the little noodle-y dragon proclaimed with much excitement.
When nothing happened first try, Yanyue did not seem particularly discouraged, though. "That's alright! Magic is difficult sometimes! I'm sure cool magic must be especially difficult. You can do it, I'm sure!" Yanyue encouraged V-Onyx-Three cheerfully.
They were quite excited to be able to add their magic to an enchantment, to be honest. Enchantments simply sounded amazing to Yanyue.

Erasmus's lips twitched with amusement and a surprising degree of fondness at the way Onyx-Three repeated Yanyue's unique vocabulary. It was sweet, seeing the way that Onyx-Three spoke to the child. Onyx-Three would probably be a good parent, they thought, seeing the way he talked to the young dragon.
But they didn't voice that. Instead, they added to Yanyue's reassurances. "No apologies. Try... And it work... eventually," their raspy voice was gentle and warm.
It somehow felt right, that Alek's gift to them was going to be enchanted by Onyx-Three. It was a way to keep those two Erasmus cared for close to them, even when far.

He shifted his weight, indicating that he had heard them with only a flick of his ear. Their encouragement was reassuring yet added pressure at the same time. They really needed to get this to work. Could they really be a reliable smith if they couldn't? And Onyx-Three hadn't even been the one to craft the armor, surely they could get past this barrier.
His magic was rising, stronger this time, but still, it wasn't quite enough. Onyx-Three felt his strength leave him, slightly more drained, yet the enchantment refused to take hold. Thankfully, this kind of magic didn't seem to be the kind to backfire.
Onyx-Three shook his head. "I will try again." He needed to make this work.
