[hatch] child of order - Luminary - Jun 11 2024

[backdated to June 2nd]

The chrysalis of purple amethyst had a hint of clearness to it, not enough to see the child inside, but enough that one could tell something was odd about the gemstone composition. Magic that seeped out enough to affect the stone… An all-consuming magic, was Order.

But the child did yet know that, nor how its magic would be viewed by the world beyond. All it knew was that it was time to be free. Knowing this, its analytic mind searched for the weaknesses in the chrysalis- as it was not purely other, it was not perfect. There weaknesses to find, it’s mind was sure.

It found weaknesses in the structure with ease enough, and then slammed against said weakness. The chrysalis tumbled into the pieces, the child successful in its goal, as was only right. The child was covered in chrysalis fluid and shards of the altered chrysalis.

And then the child peered around, gaze searching and studying. What it looked for, it knew not.

The past cycle of waiting, for the Vindicator, was one of structuring and preparing. The area of the warrens that the Vindicator had set down had been slightly altered. A hollow in one of the walls had been covered in the strange polymer that it could produce, some collected stones Doru had helped roll over attached together with the same material, and then all that white carefully covered with scavenged moss and grass, so that any onlookers from afar would see nothing but another small hill.

But it was a small hideaway, perfectly symmetrical in its design. It smelled clean and odorless within, with a light touch of the earthy scent of the moss.

The Vindicator was outside, repairing some of the damage done by a recent rainfall, its spindly fingers carefully running over the places in which there were dents and chips, and quickly replacing it with the strange glue-like material. It waited a moment for it to begin to harden, and then pressed moss over top until the white was hidden.

It was distracted from its task by the sound of shattering. Immediately, it turned from its task and floated towards the opening of the cave. It beheld the child in front of it and felt warmed, immediately calling for Doru in the link. "Thine child hast hatched. Little one," it drifted into the cavern, looming over the child for a moment, before it kneeled down, to be closer to its level. "Thou art Luminary, as decided by thine creators. I am The Vindicator." It was odd, speaking to one that it knew held the Hive's magic within, but could not feel within the endless link.

Doru could 'hear' the call through the link. Immediately, upon the call, knowing what it meant, he felt an onslaught of anxiety. Uncertainties and fears slid quickly into his mind. But... There was a sense of wonder, alongside the terror. The child they had created together, Vindicator and he, it was hatching.

He still did not know if he would be able to emotionally care for it, but he would be sure to care for it as much as he was able to. Because even if he could not emotionally connect with ease, this child was important to him.

Swiftly he flew, landing near the entrance to the hideaway that held the chrysalis. He held back a moment near the entrance, simply observing their creation as Vindicator spoke.

An idle wondering occurred to him, whether the child would speak as Doru did or as the Vindicator did. It was a curious thought, to look at this child and see the features of the two of them combined. It felt very odd. Not wrong, but...

It was impossible for him to define, for though he could assess others' feelings, his own were often a mystery to Doru.

The child studied the first being to appear in its vision with fascination. If there was a perfect being, the child thought, it was this one. And this being, the Vindicator, had created it? Alongside another, presumably.

Luminary stared with awed fascination at the wonderfully clean symmetry of the Vindicator, and Luminary hoped it looked like this creator. Surely there could be no bettering of the other's form.

But as Luminary looked itself, it saw small, clawed hands. They were clearly not exactly the same as the Vindicator, and this was a disappointment. They went back to looking at the Vindicator. "I am Luminary," the child agreed, voice spreading through the air in dual musical yet child-like tones. Its mouth did not move as it spoke. "Is there more of myself that has been decided?" it wondered, curiosity in its voice.

Words came easily without the inhibitor of a mouth. Thoughts simply resonated in the air. At least, Luminary thought, it had a rather lovely set of voices.

It paused as another creature approached the outcrop visibly. The lack of symmetry to the being's markings seemed unnatural, and the child flinched back at the sight. It hurt, in an odd way. It wanted to fix this being, but it did not know that fixing was possible. Was a being not simply as it was?

Such was a very deep thought for a new child, one hard to grasp. Then, it realized the asymmetrically marked creature had golden claws much like its own. "Is this... my other creator?" it asked, with a sense of trepidation, mouth still closed as it spoke in its own way.
