Collecting Dues - Bacchus - Jul 08 2024

Bacchus appeared near the doorway of the room Anubis had claimed as his own, yet the leopard did not move to enter. He had manners, after all, and this was Anubis’s space. As the garden was Bacchus’s space.

”Anubis, may I take a moment of your time? I simply require a fragment of your stone, as owed, for the final child,” he explained his rumbling purr of a voice.

The last of his children, in all likelihood, but not the least by any measure of the word.

He had been resting his head, sitting in the room that had once been used for brutal torture, now rusted and forgotten, lit dimly by glowing fungus that he had spread about the room. A single paw rested on the lighter that he had removed from his neck, methodically opening and closing the cap, the gentle click! of metal reverberating through the empty chamber. He was lost in thought, misty-eyed, until Bacchus's rumble jerked him out of his thoughts.

Head turned in the direction of his partner and he blinked for a moment before rising. "Of course." A strange expression came over his face as the magic focused around the canines in his mouth, and then something like discomfort came over it before he leaned forward and spat a small black shard on the ground, a shaved piece of the obsidian tooth.

He pushed it towards Bacchus, almost uncaring, mind already moving back towards where it had been moments before.

Anubis seemed lost in thought, Bacchus noted. Yet, the jackal did not say anything about what was on his mind. ”If you need someone to talk to, I am around, as ever,” Bacchus informed Anubis. Whether that meant talking about experiments, or something else, was yet to be seen.

”You are my partner, after all,” he added, his rumble pleased.

He picked up the shard on obsidian into his own mouth, letting his magic take root in it.

The magic to this child strongly, not simply due to the stone. It felt right, that his and Anubis’s child would be so strong in magic.

With content footsteps he moved deeper into the prison, closer to his garden, where he had placed the chrysalis site for the other three.

He looked towards Bacchus again, mildly surprised at the offer. He was silent for a moment before nodding. "Okay. Thank you." This was not something he would share, of course, but other things, perhaps. He just needed to think and ruminate on what had happened of late, and where he would go from here.

As Bacchus left, he curled back up on the floor, returning to his musings, the gentle metallic click of the lighter again echoing through the prison.
