Trick of the Light - Mephala - Apr 07 2025

The air smelled sweet was the first thing Mephala thought when she entered the tunnel. She liked the scent permeating the air. She licked her lips, the scent making her hungry.

She moved further into the cave, claws retracted so there was no noise as she walked. Her long thin tail swaying idly behind her.

Dull flickering lights danced from the corners of her only functioning eye. She couldn't make out the lights clearly as when she turned her head, they would dissappear.

"Stupid lights," Mephala muttered to herself.

Deli
This particular tunnel was one of Deli's favorite little spots - the narrow walls made for great mid-air sitting, which is exactly what it was doing now - a couple feet above the ground with its back wedged into a large crack, their cloack shoved together like a cushion, and its legs pushed hard against the other wall. It didn't look comfortable, but for Deli it might as well have been the most beautiful mattress and feather stuffed pillows from the ease in which they sat.

A couple small pots of paint sat against its chest as it used its (at this point) very well-loved brush to caress paint onto each of its nails, admiring the perfect job under the light. There wasn't...consistency in the colors. They seemed utterly random in selection. Just how they intended.

They heard the muttering bouncing off the walls and turned. A cub approaching - a little itty bitty hatchling and it was coming right towards them! They chuckled to themselves, quietly, and then waited - as soon as they got close enough, one of the little bottles of paint - mint green, in this case - went tumbling down and hopefully all over the hatchling passing by below.

"Oops," they chuckled.
