twenty treasures - Jampa - May 05 2025

A river snakes among meadows, down and around a series of greenspire hills, seemingly to nowhere at all. It went on to a switchback among stony crags, and down again in to meadow. It was quiet, here. The sussuration of the river had long ago become white-noise to her ears. The grass here was sweet, the flowers fragrant. Sometimes if she was very, very quiet Jampa could hear whispers in the trees - perhaps they were true voices, or maybe just birds which had come to find a level of peace here, as she had. Sometime during her exploration she had lost herself, too.

Now as she came to herself again, as some cognizance returned and she could figuratively step back and look at the land around her - she was shocked at how alien it looked. Where was she? How had she gotten here? How long had it been...? The girl's tail-feathers fluffed as she felt a sudden apprehension. Her wings flexed; ducking out from beneath a copse of trees where she had, presumably, been nibbling at the grasses there, her pale figure crossed through to an open space where she could spread those wings properly.

What was once a fawn-spotted silver fawn, for the most part, had matured. Her spots were gone and her body, radiant for how pale it had become, looked like it was formed out of soft snow. Jampa flexed her wings again and looked to them, seeing their spread, fascinated by the tint they carried. That had not changed, much. As she steadied herself and looked around, her mannerisms were bird-like; she had always been a thin and delicate creature, and this too remained constant. There was a sharpness to her features, and a lightness to the crown of antlers she carried.

She was alone, though. This was not her home. She did not know where she was - beautiful as this place appeared to her, it was not a place she recognized. A sound echoes from among the trees - a snapping twig, maybe - and she looks very much like the white stag of myth, caught out in the open. Her wings immediately tucked in and around her, protectively surrounding her at the shoulders - but she did not run.

RE: twenty treasures - Reverend - May 05 2025

A broken twig is just one sound, amongst the jingling of bells. The one responsible winces, he himself aware of his awkward step. Reverend shakes his head to himself. I didn't mean to do that.

He does not look at Jampa. No, it only turns at the sound of her wings shifting, fluttering as she tensed. Quiet as it may be, it did not escape Reverend's notice. Its staff is the source of the jingling, the bells and chains wrapped around it chiming one more time as he plants it.

Throwing caution to the wind, it extends its free hand, calling out, "Hello? Is someone there? I mean no harm."

A voice drifted from the darkness among the trees. Unlike the whisperings she had thought she had heard before, this sound was distinct, and there were further sounds of movement soon after. Jampa had never thought of the world as particularly dangerous; she did not percieve this voice to be threatening in any way, and as she peered cautiously - albeit optimistically - in to the depths of the forest, she thought she saw... starlight?

It was hard to tell what, exactly, stood before her. The trees obscured a lot. Her imagination filled in some of the gaps, which did not help. The stranger's voice had been nervous, perhaps a feverish manifestation of her own confusion after her awareness returned - but she thought she saw form, there, and depth.

Pacing in a circle, Jampa calls out: "I'm here! I can't see you. The trees - they're too dark. Come here, to where there is light." Whatever passed for light in this cavern - something similar to a sun none of them would ever really behold - illuminated the grass around Jampa and further, gave a subtle warm glow to her white hide.

"My name is Jampa -" if she remembered that correctly, which, upon speaking it aloud, she knew it to be true. "...Do you know where we are? This place - I think I've been here a while. Maybe I got lost...?" She was speaking softly to herself, in the end.

As Jampa paces and speaks, Reverend's ears twitch further, and he's grateful they're making the noise. It makes it easier for him to follow, and her footsteps he can sense in the ground beneath him.

"It's quite alright. I couldn't see you if I tried," he'd chuckle back. He'd lift up his staff again, approaching slowly to not startle what he thinks is a nervous other. "But if it is dark, perhaps I could help."

He'd lift up his free hand then, and channel his magic. A soft glow would appear, before forming into a gleaming little orb. It floated above the palm of Reverend's hand, following as it approached.

A smile is on his limps. "Nice to meet you, Jampa. I'm Reverend. And... I think I am a bit lost as well. But I heard people calling out, to come to Pegasus - and there are others passing through. Perhaps this is there?"

RE: twenty treasures - Jampa - May 06 2025

Pegasus? She considered the name that was presented to her, rolling it around in her head in the same manner that someone might let wine bloom upon the tongue, and upon finding the name unfamiliar she simply accepted that the stranger was probably right, even if he couldn't see the forest for the trees. If there were people here she had not seen them, but perhaps Jampa had heard them too? Either that or some innate part of her was drawn here while in her stupor; she didn't question it for much longer.

The stranger drew from the shadows of the trees, to fringes along the forest's edge that became the meadow where Jampa was pacing, and waiting, and watching. She saw the glimmer of light as it was summoned, and saw the hand holding it, and beyond that the figure being led by this extended offering. Jampa's eyes caught the light as they went wide - because the stranger looked to be made of stars! And to be led forward holding one as well - it was beautiful!

"Oh, hello!" She gave a little bow of her head, then remembered that this stranger - this Reverend - could not see her. She glimpsed his face, seeing a place where the eyes ought to be, and wondered if maybe that's where the light was supposed to go. There was some scarring on his face too, but as Jampa had never seen anything like it, she figured that was how things were supposed to look, for him. "That's much better, thank you. It is a very pretty light."

The girl's tail-feathers fluffed a bit, as if she might be trying to look bigger or more presentable, as compared to this astral beast she was predictably bird-boned and feeling small. "I'm from Orion, originally. I remember being there, last... But then I sort-of woke up, and was here. Maybe woke-up isn't right, either. I don't think I was asleep exactly... Oh, ahem." Her thoughts had overwhelmed her for a moment and the rambling came flowing from her, showing off that common habit of the perpetually lonely.

"The voices - I think I know what you mean. Whispers. Maybe we can walk together and see where the voices lead?" She smiled and stepped towards the other creature, offering a soft tap of her nose against their outreached hand, so they would at least know where she stood, and that she meant no harm.

RE: twenty treasures - Reverend - May 25 2025

He smiles some, not at all hurried. Reverend had been forced to take it slow after loosing his sight, after all. It would take a few more steps, clearing the tree line completely. But he wouldn't go farther, planting his staff. Easier to sense movement if he wasn't moving himself.

It's been too long, he thinks to himself. Since I had a good conversation with anyone. And then its mind wanders, and Reverend finds itself wondering how Oliver is doing. Or Venari. He hadn't spoken with either of his parents in a long, long time. But that is something he will have to rectify at another time.

"Good to know my skill hasn't dulled," he chuckles. It was hard to know what his magic looked like anymore, unable to see it.

He can hear Jampa shifting, her wings and feathers making noise. But that is about all he can tell. Is she nervous? Just not fond of sitting still? Who knows. So he stays, listening, because that is what he is good at. "My original home was Eridanus. But in time I ended up leaving to Orion as well. Funny how that is." Though Reverend avoids mentioning the reason for leaving, that snow-white sickness.

The tap of Jampa's nose makes him twitch in surprise, but Reverend relaxes quickly. She's right there, letting him know she's gotten close. The gesture is appreciated. The orb brightens a bit too, shining warmly.

So he would nod, agreeing, "I would be glad to go with you."
