F is for family :) - V-Chaos-Eleven - May 08 2025

Canis was a LONG fucking way from Draco. Eleven was open about this fact to her family. It was her favourite discussion topic, actually - aside from whatever she could hold over the Agate. "I took down a meadow deer like, seconds after I got out of a the chrysalis! And it was AWESOME! And you caught what, a rat?"

It didn't have to be the truth to count, okay?

Pink petals had collected in the puddles even here, bringing a bit of life to an incredibly dead cave. Eleven watched a few more drift on a gentle breeze as she, Nidhogg and the Agate officially began their patrol. And Archon, I guess. He was there too.

She sniffed. "So, where did all the bones come from anyways?"

RE: F is for family :) - Nidhogg - May 10 2025

Nidhogg considered for all of two seconds as he plodded along beside his children. "Dead things," he answered, wisely.

That was all he offered, because he was sort of stupid and didn't know any more than that. As an aside, he added "Your other sister lives here. Or brother. I don't know!" He hadn't actually met that one. He just knew it was here.

Somewhere.

Nidhogg scurried up onto a rock, a higher point, to peer down and around. He didn't see any Hive-stuff: no big white bugs, no mold to speak of. His tongue flicked out as he peered around. "Don't see anything." It was rare he was focused. Not screaming. But for once, he was aware that this was 'work'... of a sort. If wandering around, looking for fungus, was work.

RE: F is for family :) - Archon - May 10 2025

Archon was there. He was relieved he'd been invited along--it meant he could serve the Forge, sure, but more importantly that he could snag some reward or other. He hadn't decided what, yet. Even more importantly, it meant everyone didn't hate him.

Which was good. It didn't matter, of course not. He didn't care about that. (He cared about that.) But in any case it was clear that this was sort-of-family-time, and he glanced sidelong at the others. A haughty sniff hid his actual motivations--to give the others their space. "I will watch from high points, as promised. I will shout if there are any signs. Call if you have need of me," he informed them. He'd stay in sight of them, and keep them in his--but he gave them their space to speak; after he'd flapped his wings, and taken flight, he flew up and out of earshot.

There he circled, keeping watch, scythes in hand; his eyes roamed over the terrain below, but for now, he saw nothing worth mentioning.

RE: F is for family :) - V-Agate-One - May 13 2025

It had matched El's banter blow for blow, or at least the best it could. It hadn't killed any meadow deer, but it HAD gotten a PERSONAL chat with Vargas because of how cool it was [Or, at least, that was the reason it was going to tell Eleven.] It ALMOST blurted out, 'I already have a name and you don't, loser!' but it figured that Eleven would be a big fat snitch and instantly tell Master Vargas, and it didn't want to ACTUALLY get in trouble. That earlier close call was more than enough.

Being significantly smaller than either of it's family meant that it nearly had to jog to keep up with them. By the time they actually got to Canis it was exhausted and absolutely not in the mood to sniff bones or whatever they were supposed to be doing here.

It'd roll its eyes at El's dumb question, echoing Nidhogg with "Dead things, DUH." It would poke around half-heartedly at the bones. It was really in the mood to curl up in one of these odd bone huts and take a nap, but it resisted the urge. It wouldn't slack off NOW, not when it had a father to impress and a sibling to upstage.

However, it'd pause completely at Nidhogg's next words. "ANOTHER sibling?" It'd stare, "How many did you make?"

RE: F is for family :) - V-Chaos-Eleven - May 14 2025

Eleven snapped, turning around. "I KNOW THEY COME FROM DEAD THINGS. SHUT UP." The last thing she needed was two family members ganging up on her.

She turned, sniffing around the bones with her nose because hey, that's what they were here to do. She was fairly distracted by the conversation though, too much to actually search. The credit would remain anyways. FREE MONEY.

"Have you considered not having babies for like, two seconds." She snarked at Nidhogg from below. "This one is too much already."

"What's Order's deal, anyways? And why do we still have to look for them? I thought we got rid of the mushrooms or whatever already." She sat on her haunches, giving up on even the appearance of actual work.

RE: F is for family :) - Nidhogg - May 16 2025

Nidhogg recoiled visibly, taken aback by Eleven's shout. "THEN WHY DID YOU ASK?!" he cried a moment later. See, unlike V-Agate-One's snark, Nidhogg was just kind of dumb. His answer had been genuine. He'd thought he was being helpful, and now he wondered why the hell Chaos-Eleven had first asked, and then gotten angry, if she already knew!?

He flinched, too, from Chaos-Eleven's demands regarding having babies. He was being ganged up on by his children and it SUCKED! His voice was more subdued, his body language a little wilting, as he replied. "I had to. I was ordered to!" (He'd forgotten one had actually been an accident. It'd probably come up later.) "-Not that I mind? But. Three? I think. -That's all, I promise!" he added, flinching preemptively, hoping to forestall any further anger on the topic.

As for Order. Uhh.

"Order's a bunch of monsters that are white instead of black." Relatively accurate summary given, he then thought it over and chose to flesh that out. "They're assholes, though. And we beat them up! But they put stinky mold on everything so we burn it."

Nidhogg was a great provider of information, if that information could be summarized as "now you know that Nidhogg is a terrible choice for explaining just about anything."

"We have to make sure it doesn't come back for awhile. But I don't care, except that we get free stuff for doing it, or something. And Aethril's scary!" His eyes all turned round as he remembered: "Once in one of those meetings she turned someone inside-out! -And didn't even let me eat them! So if she says we gotta come here, we gotta come here." Those, at least, were probably wise words.

RE: F is for family :) - V-Agate-One - May 23 2025

It'd roll its eyes again "Oh, of COURSE you already knew~" Its quill-lined tail flicked dangerously close to El, like it was trying to provoke her on purpose. Which it was, just so it could feign innocence the moment its sister actually struck it.

"Three's enough." It agreed. "And I hope the third one isn't as much of a dumbass as that one."Another tail-flick in El's direction.

Secretly, The Agate hoped that it would never be 'ordered' to have kids. Being a parent seemed AWFUL. Or maybe Nidhogg was just especially ill-suited for the role. Regardless, Agate knew it has WAY better things to do than deal with smaller clones of itself. It also had way better things to do than be here, but it was way too late to back out now. It would paw at some more bones, sniffing a couple and coughing on the dust. EUGH.

Mentally, it would note down Nidhogg's description of Order. It'd look around, as though excepting a big white monster to materialize at that exact moment. Unfortunately, the room stayed as boring and enemy-less as ever. "Why are we here instead of fighting the big stinky mold monsters? This is boring!" And it would be a whole entire cycle of boring, too! It better get one hell of a reward for this.

Despite Nidhogg's obvious fear of whoever Aethril was, Agate was enraptured by her description. Turning someone inside out sounded cool as hell! The Agate wished it could do something like that. Or at least be there to watch it happen. "...Did it at least look cool?" It asked, impulsively.

RE: F is for family :) - V-Chaos-Eleven - May 23 2025

"BECAUSE THEY OBVIOUSLY WEREN'T ALWAYS DEAD." She was more exasperated by her father than angry. Her sibling, on the other hand... Eleven let out a low, long hiss from deep in her throat, eyes fixed on V-Agate-One's stupid long tail.

On the second swing she actually snapped, dark jaws clacking at the space where its tail had flicked towards her. "I hope the third one isn't as much of an ASSHOLE."

Eleven paused the constant warfare with her sibling to soak in what Nidhogg knew about Order. "Why mold? Can't they just like... Beat us up back?" They were the Chaos Forge, but they didn't smother everything with oil. Everything that wasn't Draco, anyways.

"Aethril did what." She said, a little quieter and higher-pitched than usual. Sure, she was the lady in charge. She understood this. However, she had quietly assumed that her power was like, her reputation - that she knew how to climb the social ladder, or something.

NOT turn people inside-out.

Would she do that to Eleven next?

Nidhogg eyed the tail-flick warily from where he'd slinked away from his intimidating (own) children. "Don't fight," he warned them, but it was in an apprehensive tone. "We get in trouble if we hurt each other! Unless it's a spar! It's against the RULES," and he said that last word with derision. He hated the Rules.

"And I don't know! Ask Vargas." Somewhere beyond, the sound of Archon snorting was audible, if faint. The angelic monster had gone from grateful to have been asked along to, probably, wondering what the fuck he was now party to. Nidhogg glanced his way, didn't get it, and looked forward again. "Did the kid look cool-? I don't know, it--OH. THE TURNING INSIDE-OUT? Yes Aethril did that with magic!" he went on, replying now to both children at once. "It was an owl! A bird! With white feathers! Aethril did SOMETHING and then it was all... meat. And organs. And blood. And there were bones. In a pile," he explained. "Like the feathers and the skin all got sucked into the inside! Just GONE!" He made a sound, half sucking meat and half comic POW.

This was more than Nidhogg usually spoke, and he said it all cheerfully, his words tumbling all over themselves in his eagerness to describe the Horrors.

"I don't know how the dead stuff got here. -You're BOTH assholes stop being assholes." Parenting level increased. But Chaos-Eleven's other question was... good, and he had to think about it. Nidhogg's answer would've gotten him in trouble, but it was the truth: "They're stronger than us," he answered bluntly. "If they come into other caves we can beat them! We have! But they live in a snow cave where they have all these secret tunnels and giant bugs and they eat us if we try." He'd been there for both the assault on Ursa (a failure) and the one on Leo (a success, if barely). So he did sort of know the answer. "They use mold to try and take places over! Maybe to keep us busy or maybe because they can just leave it around but it turns other guys into THEIR guys."

RE: F is for family :) - V-Agate-One - Jun 09 2025

Agate yanked it's tail well out of Eleven's reach, but it made sure rattle its quills annoyingly as it did so. It tried its best not to roll its eyes at Nidhogg's warning. It was just having some fun! But it didn't really want to get in trouble, either. It huffed out a "Fine." and then, to Eleven, "Maybe we can 'spar' later."

Agate gave Nidhogg its full attention in perhaps the best show of manners it had ever displayed, save maybe for its chat with Vargas. It was utterly fascinated- both by the enthusiastic descriptions of gore, and by the fact that turning someone inside-out was just something you could do. Or maybe it was just something that only Aethril could do. It would have to investigate this further, but it was becoming increasingly aware of the fact that maybe Nidhogg wasn't the best source of this kind of information.

"YOU'RE an asshole!" It would snap back petulantly, all of it's manners vanishing as the topic of conversation shifted. It vaguely remembered some of the others at the meeting declaring that they should just hunt down the hive, and it was inclined to agree. At the very least that would be doing something about the huge threat everyone was worried about. "Why don't we just trap 'em in the ice cave?" It asked, "Or have Aethril turn 'em all inside out?"
