Float - Vekzhar - May 21 2025

Short and bad post, phone don’t like me

VEKZHAR

They prowled on the floor- Surprising, yes, that they were not in the air.. But soon, soon they would- Just not right now. Their wings scraped trails into sand as it sluggishly trotted, their head low as small legs sunk into sand with every step. It expelled a high pitched hum as they traversed the dry, deserted lands, crunching over piles of bone from before. Bright light entering their eye, reaching their retina. Before. It had been a long time since they had seen the outside world, too long- Their pale chrysalis that it had spent.. maybe over a cycle in, wasn’t fun. This, the caves, this was freedom. Their mouth hung open in a perpetual gasp, lures waving around on the air as if testing it, before the creature paused

They lifted their wings upwards, summoning power they knew they had, as the humming coming from their throat immediately ceased. They attempted to lift themselves upwards- Levitate, if you will. It was a familiar feeling, to float once more. Their will had won over the exhaustion, and they spread their wings flat, claws to body, and rose slowly. They could almost sleep as they moved, still far from any sort of tunnel exit, mouth closing with a sudden snap, soaring. Flying over bones.

“Speech” and ’Thought’

RE: Float - Hiruko - May 22 2025

It had found itself far from home.

The light beat down on its dark wings, burning, bright. It'd followed an odd looking lesser here, something sickly and weak - easy to overpower, and then to suck dry. But it had neglected to notice the direction it was heading - Hiruko was no desert vulture.

It persisted still, stubbornness driving it through the hostile cave. There - the faint shape of a scale deer lying in the shrubbery, barely moving. It'd missed it at first, and found itself having to circle back to the poor animal.

It landed with a heavy thud, wide eyes staring hungrily at the dying lesser, and began to close the distance - it barely put up a fight as Hiruko gorged itself on what remained of its life, its mandible-beak piercing an artery in its neck.

It would eat, and then it would leave.

It was more than halfway through its meal when it spotted a passing shadow - competition, it decided. It turned away from the drained carcass to shriek at it, bloody spittle flying from its awful little mouth as it staked its (entirely unchallenged, so far) claim.
