Can't recall how we lost our innocence - Rajani - Jun 08 2025

He lowered his body to the ground as he sniffed, catching the scent of the insidious creature he was searching for. It wasn't the first time he had gone after a cave deer, if anything they were becoming one of his favorite meals, and he had gotten pretty good and tracking them down.

Just like now, it didn't take him long to stalk the creature, finally settling himself down in the shadows as he watched the deer, narrowing his eyes slightly. This one was a Marsh Strider but he didn't mind, didn't have any preferences really. He just wanted to turn in the bounty and eat whatever was left.

He waited a moment, taking the long time it took to sneak up to it. One step, then wait, sometimes more than a few minutes at a time while the creature searched its surroundings before settling back down again. His dark colorations helped him hide within the shadows, keeping him hidden under the darkness that stretched around him.

Inching closer and closer, he waited until it lowered its head to lap at the water before lunging forward, his body flying through the air gracefully before landing over the creature's back, claws slashing and digging into its sides. He wrestled it to the ground, slashing at the creature's form until it wasn't able to run anymore, only kick and struggle.

He grunted as he took a hoof to the side, but he didn't care, didn't mind really. He was able to lay across the creature, sinking his teeth into the creature's neck until it stopped struggling.

Only once the creature died did he finally get up, taking a moment to lick his own wound before going back to his prize. Carefully with his claws, he used his sharp appendages to skin the creature, having done this a few times already and gotten better each time.

He took one of the haunches and put it to the side for the bounty, before settling down and letting himself enjoy the rest of his kill. It was a win win to him, he wanted food anyway, and he would get some payment for something he did anyway? He saw nothing wrong with that.

After he took the chance to eat his fill, he would pick up the haunch in his maw and turn to leave, letting whatever scavengers take the bones and remainder of the carcass, though he hadn't left much.
