Skeletons in My Closet - Grishia - Jun 11 2025
Grishia stood squinting at the bones that she'd collected.
She was nearish the West Wall, but far enough that the bones here were new to her. The staff she held in one hand was far, far too large for her: its opalized ash wood too thick, the crescent rainbow moonstone at its top too heavy. The myriad teeth, ribbons and other decorations would have dragged, were she not so very careful to keep it all upright. Either way, it was clear the cub had a long while yet before growing into her staff, yet she held it higher, huffing a little with the effort. It didn't help that her heart was gemstone, also way too big at this age, and weighing her down even further. But she wasn't thinking of any of that right now.
Her focus was on the bones. Some were extra spiky, or weirdly... round. She didn't recognize a lot of them, but she'd tried to match as much as she could into a relatively coherent skeleton.
It might have been a little weird, though, to round a corner and see a sooty gray hyena cub standing on her hind legs, holding a staff and pointing at some bones.
It would've probably been even weirder for someone unfamiliar with her spell to see the bones slowly assemble, pulling themselves upright into a form somewhere between a rat and a dog, with odd spines littered throughout its spine and ribs. And weirder still, maybe, to see it stare sightlessly up at the cub, who grinned down with her teeth bared in delight.

He bounded through the area unbothered by everything around him. His eyes were wide and his mouth agape in awe. Everything was so cool, so spooky, so rickety, but that was part of the appeal for it all. His movements were quick and fast, enjoying the boost that his magic gave him.
However as he turned the corner to see another, seeming to be... creating life?! That was so cool!
He slid to a halt a few feet in front of them, dirt and rocks flying as he did so. Almost instantly he lowered his head and sniffed at the creation that was moving in front of them, clearly having no regards for personal space. What's this? He flicked his gaze back up at them, his eyes wide and his tongue lolling out to the side. Whatcha doing?

Grishia jerked in surprise at the stranger's approach--but Nebula seemed both friendly and stunningly beautiful. The star-shot azure distracted her from any worries or tumbling stones, her eyes widening to see their hues, despite Nebula pressing in close to sniff at her new golem.
"...Hi," she offered, shyly, and waved her free hand. "'S my friend. Um. Golem. Bone golem. I'm making him," she said, trying to answer all the questions (and some unasked) at once, along with apparently deciding that the assembly of bones had a gender. "I'm Grishia?" she offered, hesitating. That was how to introduce oneself, right?
As for the 'who are you,' though, the gnoll cub was drawing a blank, staring wide-eyed at the stranger.

A bone golem? A friend? He wanted friends!
He sniffed at the creation for a moment before turning to look at her. He offered a goofy smile, his tongue lolling out of the side of his mouth for a moment as he plopped his butt down in the dirt, his tail flicking around beside him, almost like it had a mind of its own.
Grishia. Nice to meet you. I'm Nebula. He flicked his gaze back to the golem but was still speaking excitedly to Grishia. How did you do that? Can you teach me? He looked back at her, his eyes wide and filled with a childlike wonder, curious and hopeful that he could somehow learn how to make friends himself.

The young cub froze.
Disaster! Ruination! Embarrassment! ...She had no idea how to teach someone a spell, and froze wide-eyed like a deer in headlights. "Um."
Slowly she turned, looking at the little bone creature, and blinked. "It's magic?" she hazarded. She was sure that bit was correct, anyway, and she squinted back at Nebula. She didn't ask why someone would want to learn it. It was obviously amazing! No questions asked. But how-?
"I put... magic in the bones. But you can use rocks and things too. I'm--I don't know how to teach," she admitted sadly. "But... maybe... if I do it again?"
Could someone just kinda learn by watching-?
"Do you live here?" she asked, tacking that question on. She was curious as to whether Nebula was a neighbor--or even another of the Bonebound!

Could someone learn by watching? He had absolutely no fucking clue but it was cool and he liked it and he wanted to try it.
He quickly nodded as she spoke of doing it again. Yes please! I wanna see it.
As the conversation moved to him being from around here, he seemed to think for a moment, eyebrow furrowing before shaking his head. No, I'm not really from... anywhere. I don't have a home so I just wander around. Of course that sparked a curiosity in his own mind and he cocked his head to the side as he watched them. Do you live here? That was a new concept to him, as depressing as that sounded. He had hatched alone, spent his whole time alone, and didn't really have a place that he called home or settled down in.
