Birth Into Nothing - Akebia - Nov 08 2015

Darkness. The first thing that simple brain knew was darkness. And then, slowly, chinks in the cocoon of stone that engulfed her slim frame were formed. Cracks crawled down the rocky surface of her birth home. And all of a sudden, a chunk would pop off, landing with a clatter below. Large, round, innocent eyes would blink open, revealing a shocking emerald glow. Long lashes waving as she took in the odd world outside her nest. Another, and then another, pieces of stone fell off one by one, until her legs unfolded and she toppled out of the shell with a plop. The fall was only a few feet, and she landed in a thick cushion of moss. Blinking a last time to clear her vision, she found russet-furred face peering back at her. She gave a little squeal of fear, wriggling backwards, before discovering that it mimicked her actions exactly. Mouth formed a small 'o' of surprise, one lengthy leg stretching from its position against her chest to tap the other creature's nose. Rings shot out from around her paw as it touched the surface of the water, and she pulled it back quickly, sniffing at her wet fur. A tentative salmon tongue flicked out of hiding to test the odd substance curiously. It hadn't a taste, but made her realize how parched she was. Scooting closer to the water's edge, she rolled onto her belly and lowered her long, elegant muzzle towards the water. Dipping it into the cold, crystalline liquid, she hungrily gulped the life-giving water until she could hold no more, and pulled back with a satisfied sigh. Clearing her damp muzzle, she lifted her head and began to study her surroundings. Orbs of light hung from the walls of the massive cavern, talons of stone jutting up from the floor and down from the ceiling. There was greenery everywhere, plants carpeting the rocky floor, decorating the towers of stone. Vines crept up the walls and clung to stalactites, hanging down from the roof. She shook her head, resting it wearily on her paws. Not a clue of what had happened.

Arkrael

You don't know what your power has done to me
I want to know if I'll heal inside
I can't go on with a holocaust about to happen
Seeing you laughing another time

The she-wolf stalked through the tall fern bushes, paws carrying her impressive size silently across the soft moss that made up the ground. Her head was lowered, eyes wide and searching. Audits twitched and swiveled as the searched for any sound they could hear. A few smaller birds were chittering and bugs were rustling around, but none of that was what she was after. She followed the scent trail of a few cave runners that had taken up residence within Eridanus. It wasn't unusual to get some of those kind of cave deer around here and she knew there were plenty of cave deer for her to hunt. Yet, the trail she currently followed after had caught her attention the most. There was just something about the scent that drew her towards it and made her stomach rumble with hunger. Arkrael had been making this hunt, tracking slowly through the tall fern bushes and trees. It kept her busy, but most importantly, it kept her mind off of the war that would inevitably happen.

At the sound of something cracking, Arkrael froze to her instantly. One paw was held up and frozen in place, while a back paw was just about to step down against the moss. Slowly the sound continued to happen and Arkrael finally set both risen paws onto the ground. She lifted her head and turned her gaze towards where the Eyes were located and she hummed thoughtfully to herself. Hearing a thud, Arkrael knew instantly what she was hearing. A smile curled across her wolven features and she instantly turned her direction and headed towards the water. All the while her gem flickered and hummed to life, vibrating gently against her chest. It soon brought the sensation of a new gem into her and she quickly familiarized herself with it's own personal vibrations.

Stepping around one final fern bush, Arkrael found herself looking upon the small creature. Her auds perked instantly when she fully recognized the pup. A wolf! That was most exciting indeed! She waited until the little pup had her fill of water before she slowly padded over towards the pup. AS it was with any other newborn gembound, Arkrael was significantly larger than them and she hoped she would not startle the pup to much. She settled the little pup a smile as she fully looked the pup over. "Hello there, little one," She cooed gently to the pup as she lowered herself to her stomach to try and bring herself just a little closer to this pups level. The little pup had quite the most charming of pelts and Arkrael truly could not remember anyone with such a pelt as to resemble a smoldering fire. And to even find that this little pup had the purest of emerald eyes was just as astonishing. Aside from her own single emerald eye, she had not really met any other with green eyes. Of course she, herself had only one green eye while the other was pitch onyx. Something she had grown to love as it was unique. No other gembound she had met had dual-colored eyes like she did.

OoC: Sorry for the rambling. Had to make a certain about of words on this post.

You'll never know why your face has haunted me
My very soul has to bleed this time
Another hole in the wall of my inner defenses
Leaving me breathless, the reason I know....
