shivers running down my back - Nyx - May 10 2015

for Aza'zel

Nyx Dawnwalker
It always seems impossible
until it's done.

Nyx had taken a liking to both Orion and Canis, but not to the tunnel connecting them. It was always a little too dark and a little too cold there, plus the mist that came from who-knows-where and made looking from one entrance to the other even harder. Orion's entrance was made of old, opened stone doors, giving the tunnel a mysterious but not negative atmosphere, unlike the entrance of Canis into the tunnel. Carved into the stone above the hole that lead into the tunnel was a grotesque creature, snarling at anyone passing beneath.

While she wasn't one to be scared or kept out by such things, Nyx did in fact possess a good amount of natural doubt towards things like this tunnel. But still, something drew the fawn into the tunnel, even though she felt out of place as soon as she'd entered it. Was someone watching her? It did feel like there were eyes on her...
Nyx sighed and focused on her courage, walking through the tunnel with an iron-resolve. If she did end up living in Orion with all of her friends, they'd surely need to cross this tunnel to Canis and if she couldn't do it, then could she ask the others to do so?

Aza'zel "Fiend" Vita
I've got a lovely bunch 'o bones; big ones, small ones
Some as big as your head!

The ave always wandered these dark halls, wondering if he'd ever see any passerby in them... even if they seemed to be meant to be void of life and desolate. Each time the juvenile took a step from his home, he felt a pang of loneliness. He knew that few would be able traverse past the snarling beast above the entrance to Canis. It warned everyone away from the room of bones. Both grateful and upset by that, the Bone King decided to wander in the tunnel leading to Orion to see if there were any travellers. He had found a recently hatched Gembound that apparently didn't know how to speak, or something... Maybe he'd see the long-legged critter again. Who knew? Certainly not the lammergeier.

Carmine orbs flickered as the bird gazed about, rufous crown turning around to gaze into the misty depths of the cave. Faint silhouettes danced in the ethereal fog, but the bird percieved them to be simple illusions of the rock's shadows. Few stood in this passage, but there were some. But then, there was one that moved quite frequently. The Bone Prince sought to investigate, spreading out juvenile wings and taking to the air. Powerful strokes were made with tact, hovering in place for a brief moment before the ave would shift weight forward to move toward this dancing silhouette. It became clearer and clearer, until sharp eyes found the figure of some other living being... a Gembound. Landing slowly with small clicks of his beak, the bird managed to stand around twelve feet from the creature.

Condensation littered the bird's feathers, and he shook himself free of it, droplets of water spattering on the granite floor. Whoever or whatever this other living being was, neither could see the other very well, and the Bone King did not wish to scare what was soon to be revealed as a fawn. Giving a small coo like a dove, the bird spread his wings, willing his magical prowess to do him well. Molecules of oxygen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and various other atmospheric gases were drawn toward the bird, gathering at his wings. This alone cleared some mist, gathering it near his wings. Once he believed he had a suitable amount of atoms to use his magicka, the bird hurled the wind forward, not strong enough to knock over enough, but to dispel the mist and loosen it's grasp on the passage. When he could see clearly, the bird was a but sleepy. Hobbling over to the Gembound, the juvenile goggled at her for a second. She was really pretty! And that gem! Krakarak would be jealous of that! "Hi. My name's Aza'zel, King of The Bonebound!" He guffawed, proclaiming himself king of a group when it wasn't exactly official yet. Hey, he could dream, right?

Nyx Dawnwalker
It always seems impossible
until it's done.

With the deafening silence in the tunnel, Nyx would've thought she was alone. Yet soon after she'd entered the mist-filled tunnel, a voice echoed through the darkness. It was a sound unlike anything the fawn had heard before and it definitely woke her curiosity.

Fueled by interest, Nyx walked towards the noise, only to see the mist fading from around her. Approaching her was a red-feathered bird. How cool! The doe couldn't even imagine how flying would feel like and now she met someone who did it most of the time!
The bird introduced himself and Nyx smiled at him, crouching down to be at eye-level with the vulture. "Hello Aza." The fawn said with her ever-present smile. "My name is Nyx! Are you really a king? Who are the Bonebound?" Aza'zel had easily caught Nyx' interest with his simple introduction. She had a suspicion that the Bonebound were (or would be) a group, much like the one she was about to found. Because who or what else could they be, really? But that made Nyx think about her own group-in-planning and that she better call all of her friends together soon so they could discuss it. Hopefully, they'd all join. The fawn imagined how much fun they could have together, playing and going on adventures all day and then cuddling to keep warm during the night.

It was apparent that the two were the only living beings in the cave, for there was only the sound of each other’s breaths or the occasional shift of talons or hooves. Some winds wafted through the tunnels, but they were rare save for those leading to Monoceros. Somewhere, something breathed great sighs of howling winds, chiseling the rock raw and giving birds excellent places to master flight. Aza’zel had yet to visit, but he was sure he would someday. Perhaps the eternal winds were the product of magicka infused into the world, and that if he were there, that he’d be able to practice his pressure magic much more efficiently. Someday.

The fawn approached, wandering ever closer to the rufous carrion-eater. Her spots were more visible, fascinating the bird. So white and pristine! They shimmered like a million stars due to the condensing water around them. But the young ave would remain simple in his introduction, short and sweet. The curious fawn spoke of her own name, Nyx. "Nyx!" He chimed, remembering the name of the fawn and her appearance. He was unable to place a scent upon her due to his horrid sense of smell, but he could remember her features; small and fragile, yet proud and strong. What turned the gears in the ave’s head was the question of his kingdom. "No, I’m not a king yet. I’m a prince! I’m too little to be a king!" Then he thought about his group-to-be. Who were the Bonebound? "Um. It’s a group. I have a few friends, and we’re kind of just like a little clan. Really close and going on adventures and stuff. I haven’t actually announced it though. The two friends I know are in on it are Fortune and Bravo." He chirped, explaining what he expected The Bonebound to be. Then he waved a wing in the direction of Canis, speaking once more, "We live in Canis." Bright eyes then looked to the fawn, crown tilting on an angle. "Do you have a group?"
