a kind soul - Beau - May 11 2015

The very large yellow-orange citrine stone looked extremely out of place in the Bone Fortress. It was the only spot of color among the old white mounds. And it was moving, shattering slowly, ever slowly, cracking and splitting. Something inside was making noises – whimpering noises, but the whimpers sounded happy. Like whatever was inside was so excited to get out! Of course, Golden Retrievers were like that. They were excited about everything. And Beau was no different. Not that he had a name yet. He was nameless in those moments, and he was still nameless even when his citrine egg finally fully shattered, spraying potentially dangerous, sharp shards of the gemstone in all directions.

The juvenile dog let out a yip as he tumbled down the bone mound atop which he had been born. His Stone could not be seen on the outside, for it replaced his heart. Naught but magic could allow something like that to happen, but Beau didn’t know of magic – yet. He got clumsily to his paws, bright brown eyes looking around happily, long pink tongue lolling out of his mouth, tail wagging furiously. He let out a bark, and began chomping on one of the bones at his paws, nomming on it like any puppy would. Little did the Retriever know that he was chewing on the remains of once-alive creatures. That knowledge would leave him devastated, for he was a kind soul.

RE: a kind soul - Azazel (Original) - May 11 2015

Hopping amongst the bones was something that Aza’zel commonly did. They were structured quite haphazardly, but the bird was always on high alert, listening and glancing around to make sure none collapsed under his weight or to check for certain bones that were high quality and possibly delicious. It had all gone swimmingly until the sound of rock cracking came to the bird’s ears. Another Gembound hatching? The young ave always seemed to happen upon such occasions, and this was yet another. So far, the juvenile had helped out a gorilla named Blue, a wolf that he nicknamed Wolf for now, and now this unhatched creature. Small sounds emanated from the cocoon, but they were happy sounds, whimpers of excitement and anticipation. It almost sounded like a wolf. Was this another wolf to become friends with and aid? The boy had experience with dealing with these kinds of critters. They usually ate meat, and were pretty cheerful and open, especially puppies.

Wandering closer was a grave mistake, as the citrine chrysalis suddenly split with a great yellow flash, sending shrapnel of the cocoon everywhere. Aza’zel squawked and flapped his wings with the intent to deflect the shards and create a barrier of wind so he did not get hit by the sharp pieces. A small barrier formed, but it was futile, for shards still yet cut into the bird's wings. "Yeowch!" He screeched, quickly working to remove the shards from his wings with his beak. He gripped each one and yanked it out, then licking the wound to help it heal and save it from infection. Hopping close to where the chrysalis had shattered, the bird found a golden little pup. His heart melted from the adorableness, of the pup slobbering all over the bones below him and gnawing on them. "Hi..." Aza'zel breathed, amazed at how cute this little boy was.

Beau looked up from his snack at the word “Hi.” He hadn’t noticed the bird’s screech of pain because he’d been too busy busting out of his egg when that had happened. The bird was kind of scary looking but Beau didn’t care because friends were good and fun and made everything better. His tail began wagging again and he dropped the bone he had been slobbering all over and stood up. He tried to repeat the word the bird had spoken, but it came out as a bark instead. He didn’t mind. His tail just kept wagging and wagging and his eyes spoke for him: Want be friends? I like friends!

He bounded forward and greeted the small bird in the only way he knew how: by kissing it. He slobbered all over the poor boy, licking his head and wings and chest and anywhere else he could reach. Eventually he stopped, and when he pulled back, the bird’s feathers were all out of place and covered in dog saliva. Beau let out a happy bark, tail still wagging. He got down on his belly and looked at the creature from this new position, then rolled over onto his back and did happy wiggles in the bones.

RE: a kind soul - Azazel (Original) - May 11 2015

As soon as the bird spoke, the pup was ecstatic. The golden wolf-like Gembound bounded over to Aza'zel with panache, throwing himself at the bird. His tail waggled so hard that the back end of him shook with it, and Aza'zel couldn't help but smile. The pup had attempted to speak, but it only came out as a bark, and Aza's pain was forgotten. Something in those little eyes literally melted his heart. It demanded he be friends with this pup, and who couldn't be!

But then the pup did something he dearly dreaded. The Bone King was absolutely traumatized and frozen as the young Gembound slobbered. all. over. him. and... licked. him. Every feather was out of place and ruffled, and the bird about gagged, tasting hot bile in his throat. Giving a pitiful whine, the bird attempted to shuffle away from the slobbery tongue of the puppy, carmine eyes narrowed with disgust.

Squeezing free of the crazed pup, the bird ruffled his feathers, shaking himself a lot. This was absolute torture! How could anyone stand being slobbery?! Abandoning the pup for a moment, the bird stiffly waddled toward one of the nearby water pools, getting into his shoulders in the water and bathing himself reluctantly. How could he?! Once he was properly groomed again, the bird simply lay in the water, almost glaring at the pup, but only at the space above him. He could not be mad at that cute little face. Oh no, he could not. "Why me?" He cawed, as if he were asking the world that.

Beau watched in confusion as the bird backed away from him and went to bathe himself in the pool of water. He let out many puppy-like whimpers of confusion, head cocking to one side then the other multiple times. Bird didn’t seem very happy. That made Beau sad. He didn’t like it when his friends were friend was sad. Even though he didn’t even know him yet. But Golden Retrievers don’t care about stuff like that. They’re friends with everybody no matter what.

Beau suddenly had an idea. Maybe birdie friend would be happy if Beau gave him a present! He looked around, tail wagging slower than before in concentration, and without knowing what was happening, he unlocked his magic – his Green Sense… It worked! His senses told him there was a pretty green plant nearby. He let out a happy bark and took off through the mounds of bones to go find the green plant to make the birdie happy. It was just a little shrub growing in an open patch of dirt somewhere, but it was good enough. He snatched it up in his jaws, ripping it out of the ground, and ran back to his birdie friend.

He dropped it with a plop into the pool of water and barked. His body language said, "See, see? Look, I brought you a present, I brought you a present, are ya happy??"

The pup bounded off, and the bird couldn't help but be curious. Wobbling out of the iron oxide-filled water, the rufous juvenile tilted his head. Wings flapped as he dried himself off, and in a few minutes of flapping his wings, they had dried out sufficiently. By that time, the golden pup had returned, holding what seemed to be s present.

It was a little shrub, and the pup eagerly bounded into the pool, dropping down the green plant at his feet. This pup could detect plants? That was a pretty good thing... He could perhaps join his group-in-planning. Maybe the boy could be a healer or a medic, or simply a gatherer for the herbavores in the group. Aza'zel was sure there would be some of those. The bird reached out and grabbed the shrub, cooing happily at the pup's excitement. "It's perfect." This boy was inquisitive and intelligent. Just perfect! And he was so so happy! It was like he was contagious, because the lammergeier felt happy and carefree around the boy as well. "You want to join my group? There's another wolf like you that you can play with!" He was sure that his new friend was far too young to understand the concept of a group, but he could try, right?

The Golden Retriever barked happily. His new birdie friend seemed happy and that made him happy too. In general, there was a lot of happiness going around right then. Then birdie started talking. Beau didn’t really understand much. He got basically the words you and my from the sentence, ”You want to join my group?” It took him a bit to figure out what was being said, and then he was all for it. He hopped around and around, barking in excitement. And he said his first words. “I’s go wit yoo! I’s go!”

He would have joyously continued hopping around but suddenly he had an itch and promptly lifted a back foot to his side to scratch it, snorting and making adorable growly sounds until the itch went away. By that time he had forgotten what was even happening. Then a second later he said, “Oh yeah! I’s go!” Needless to say, Beau was very happy about joining this group, whatever that was.

RE: a kind soul - Azazel (Original) - May 12 2015

It was apparent that this pup had no inkling as to what a group was, but Aza'zel disregarded it. He couldn't say no to this cheerful little pup. Surely Wolf and him would get along. "My name's Aza'zel... Vita." Since when did he have a last name? It sounded so familiar, though. Shrugging it off, the bird tilted his crown and stared at the pup. "What's your name? Do you have one?" Surely this golden ball of happiness had a name! Happily, the bird awaited a response.

A name? Beau (who hadn’t actually been named yet) wasn’t sure if he had one or not. He thought about it. Had anyone ever called him before? He didn’t think so. He didn’t think he knew anyone but the pretty birdie named Aza-something-something. He would just call the bird Aza. He eventually shook his head at his new friend Aza. “I’s has no name. Want name! Give me name?” The idea of having his own named pleased the Golden Retriever, but he didn’t know what name he would give himself. In fact, he didn’t even know names could be given by oneself. He assumed Aza had been named by someone else, and was too young yet to ponder who had given the first Gembound its name if not itself…

RE: a kind soul - Azazel (Original) - May 12 2015

This boy's ethusiasm and happiness was purely contagious. Aza'zel found himself smiling a little, bouncing up every once in a while to dull it to a point where he was not practically bouncing off the walls... unlike this pup. At the mention of a name, the boy seemed as if he were pondering what was in a name. Had this pup's chrysalis not spoke to him and told him of his name? To be honest, the bone king's chrysalis hadn't either, but that wasn't important now. What was in a name for this boy? He was... pretty attracting. Something about the golden ball of sunshine just drew you closer. There was so word for that... Bodacious. Nah, that was too difficult. Beautiful... Beau... Beau had a sweet ring to it. It almost fit the child. The bird's eyes glimmered as he had the stunning revelation as to what to call this pup. "Beau! Do you like that name?" Hopefully the pup did, for it fit him just fine. Aza'zel wasn't sure yet what his name meant, but he was sure it was something pretty nice... Unbeknownst to him, the ave was name after scapegoat, a sacrifice to the gods in another foreign and long-forgotten religion's texts.
