she's beauty, she's grace, she's gonna hurt her face - Iris - Feb 23 2016

She heard all of that commotion and ruckus all the way from the lagoon of Pisces, so what did she do? Explore, of course! Her new friend, Ghost, had been resting upon her back. The hybrid had already gotten quite big, now tipping the scales at nine hundred pounds and being fourteen feet long. "Ghost," she'd said to him, "d'you hear that???" Without any warning, she'd grabbed Ghost with her scruff and began clambering right up Pisces's waterfall and was happily swimming upstream. Of course, Ghost was terrified the entire time, clinging on for dear life. Iris was such a good friend. But she made sure that she definitely didn't lose him in the current. In fact, she kept him high above the water atop her head. But it was probably obvious that the albino wolf was soaked to the bone. She'd just have to dry him off later with leaves or something. Who knows.

They'd been swimming for some time, and when Iris saw even the smallest smidge of light, she got extremely excited and began swimming faster, faster, faster!

Iris definitely did not consider that perhaps that smidge of light was the opening to another waterfall. Before she knew it, she was swimming in nothing but air. Then she plummeted. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!" she shrieked as they fell with a big 'ol splash into the water. Quickly, she looked around with wild eyes, resurfacing. "GHOST?" She didn't lose him, did she?!

"Hear what?" Normally Ghost had impeccable hearing, but apparently he hadn't heard whatever she had. Not even a moment later, the water dragon picked him up by the scruff and made off with him up a waterfall.

Iris had to be trying to kill him.

Water was one thing that Ghost feared the most and now she was dragging him through it. Fantastic. At least his head was out of the water, but soon he was atop the dragons head and out of the water, but not safe yet. He coukd feel wind ripping through his fur and the sound of water everywhere, but he hadn't expected what happened next at all.

Suddenly, there was nothing. Then, they fell.

They became separated not too long before hitting the water and Ghost flailed under the water for a few seconds before miraculously getting himself above water where he gasped at the air. He had swallowed some water and coughed as soon as he got a gasp of air, but he wasn't out of the water yet... Literally.

Where was land? Ghost hacked and tried to breathe as he paddled naturally aimlessly, just trying to keep his head above water. Where was Iris? "Iris!" He hacked and coughed some more, some of the water spilling from his mouth. "Iris help!" He hacked some more, desperate for Iris to hear him.

Iris splashed around frantically in the waters, taking deep breaths and thrusting herself underwater to see where the pale wolf was. Cyan eyes fixated upon the form flailing in the waters. Bubbles were rising from his mouth, and she could detect vibrations of his words. Help. It was garbled, but she knew this all to well. She did not need to be told what to do. The wolf doggy-paddled his way to the surface, fighting to keep his head above the surface of the water.

The hybrid squealed, crying out to Ghost, "I'm coming!" Just like that, she disappeared beneath the rolling current of the water due to the waterfall, and darted towards the albino at what appeared to be the speed of light. She slowed as she came beneath the wolf, and carefully positioned herself so that the wolf would be at the base of her neck when she surfaced. Then she let herself float up, feeling her back meet warm and wet air. Iris's head craned back, looking to see if her friend was there. Once she was sure of that, she began to swim towards land. "Are you okay? I'm really, really, really sorry. I got really excited because we'd been swimming for a really long time, and I didn't think there'd be a big waterfall to fall down."

He pawed at the water, splashing around desperate to stay above and breathing. He inhaled some water, though not enough to drown. Just enough to make him cough and gasp and heave the water from his lungs when he felt Iris rise beneath him, ending his suffering. He collapsed on Iris' neck, trusting her although his brain screamed at him to not. She just tried to drown him, yes?

They were moving now and Iris' was speaking to him, apologizing and explaining the incident. He didnt have the energy for anything but accepting her apology once the water left his lungs. "It's okay..." he breathed heavily, exhausted from the struggling. "Just... watch out next time."

The massive hybrid waggled her rear as Ghost seemingly came to life, hacking up lungfuls of water. She skittered over to him and have him a big lick up his spine to try and dry him off. "Yeah, I'll watch out super good next time! I promise that there will be no more falling down waterfalls!" With that, the cotton-candy dragon stamped her feet excitedly and bounced in place, looking all about the room. "It's so pretty, isn't it, Ghost!" Then she turned and suddenly realized. Quick to try and correct her mistake, she lowered her head and gently nuzzled her friend. "I mean..." Oh, she didn't want to make her friend feel bad.

He fell silent after he spoke, his body giving in to the exhaustion. His eyes fluttered closed as Iris spoke and he could barely hear her anymore. Ghost could tell she felt bad for the near drowning, and he was nearly asleep when she mentioned how pretty it was here. So close that what she said didn't even phase him, like he didn't hear exactly what was said.

"Mhmm.." he accepted her apology easily and licked at his lips sleepily. With the water out of his lungs, there was nothing really to worry about... Except the pink stone that started to grow around the wolfs body. It was slow, encompassing him completely after a few minutes, making the nearly unconscious bachelor feel safe and warm as he started to drift off into a long nap..

As she nuzzled her friend, he didn't move. His stone was shimmering and crackling. Maybe he was just warming himself up! Yeah. But then the same sparkling pink gemstone began to envelope her friend. She reached out to try and stop the stone from taking her friend away, but it burned to her touch and she jumped back with a screech. "Ghost," she whimpered, "can you hear me?" No response, just a dull sparkle from the spinel.

"Ghost, can't you hear me?" She asked louder this time, placing a paw on the stone. Squinting hard, she could see the faint silhouette of her friend. Iris felt tears prick at her eyes. "Ghost, say something! Anything!" He was fine, right? Life came from chrysalides like this, right? Right? She choked out a ragged sob and padded over to the crystal's side, gently curling about it. If Ghost was coming back, she'd defend this chrysalis. She just knew she had to protect the stone. Her own eyes began to flutter shut, and Iris fell into deep rest about the stone.
