once upon a midnight dreary - The X - May 16 2015 There was a shudder as the form within the chrysalis began its emergence. What was previously just an ordinary looking rock was now fading translucent, the pinks and purples from within casting light onto the ground as the creature squirmed slightly. No one was around to see this as undisturbed, the youngling began to peel away the many pieces of the puzzle that made up its tomb. Without an egg tooth, the peeling was a slow process and by the time it was out on the ground, it had worked up a lather of sweat to go with the stickiness of the almost placenta like substance it had been immobile in. Gasping its first breaths of air, it whined and shuddered before curling in on itself. Without even thinking it the gemstone that laced its way through its salmon pink tongue began to kick up a fuss as its emergence triggered electrochemical responses within its developed brain. roll edit A fresh and new vigour was found and various white cap mushrooms began to spring up around the form where its wiggling body parts had touched. A fairy ring was formed, but it was the energy it drained from the creature that caused it to whine yet again. Finally, its eyes blinked open and in the gloom of the dark they were not immediately forced closed. Entirely pink with partially translucent skin, the thing had been cursed with albinism. Forever doomed to walk with the sensitive skin and eyes that were a trademark of its genetic mutation. Pulling itself to its feet, it wobbled and went back down again. Learning how to walk was going to be a struggle, but in a few more attempts it was up. Above it, the cliffs of the star room were menacing but it couldn't crane its head to look. Instead, it was focused on finding safety and heading in a straight line. Although it was in a three dimensional world it could only think two dimensions. Straight ahead and backwards. Movement was slow, but it made its way between the crumbling buildings from where it was born, the dust gathering on its slightly damp feet. There was no noise, and its ears were kept backwards and slightly twitching to try and pick up the heralding of another creature should it appear. This moment of its life cycle was dangerous. RE: once upon a midnight dreary - Louie - May 17 2015 Gravitating to one spot wasn't really Louie's intention but he found himself drifting around the star bedazzled cave a lot more than he had realized. Quite a few others were spotted wandering the disheveled halls but he usually paid them no mind unless they decided to catch his attention. Commonly, he was almost drawn towards the sound of crystal breaking or rock crumbling as it signaled the arrival of the newest participant in their pitch black world. This time, he was not there to witness the birth but he came upon the shattered remains of a chrysalis surrounded by the white caps. Wary, he sniffed the air but picked up nothing. The only thing that gave indication of which direction the other had ventured in was the light paw prints on the ground. They were smaller than his, but the resemblance was uncanny as he placed his paw into one of the dusty imprints. Louie had to find this other. Travelling at a pace that outmatched that of the albino, he came upon the newborn, but sunk into the shadows of an overarching wall. Its bright pelt was easily spotted in the dark and he wondered how no one else had come to find him. Either way, the vulpes was able to immediately recognize the similarities in them both. The only other he had found that was like him in nearly every way. Not sure how to make a first impression, as his motives weren't that which required a humble greeting, he simply stepped out (if he hadn't been noticed already) and gave a simple command. "Stop." Head held high, his elongated tail twitched behind him as he raised his eyebrow in question at the other. A powerful ally, maybe not, but he wondered what he would be able to accomplish with another of his own. Those mushrooms too.... It was all very tantalizing to Louie. |
