Who Goes There? - Makyna - Jul 24 2016

The lioness didn't like to leave her chrysali alone, the three gem-cocoons were vulnerable and though she didn't know if they could be destroyed or not she didn't want to risk that. So, she was now heading back from an unsuccessful hunting trip out in the Heart of Cetus. With mouth and belly empty her paws dragged back towards the Divine where she hoped everything would be the way she left it. So far nothing terrible had happened with her charges but she could never get lax in her efforts. All it would take was one slack in attention or one bad event or someone noticing that she was away.

It was a scent on the air that made her tense up, her mouth opened to taste the foggy wind. There was a distinctly feline taste in the air, one that she didn't recognize... one that seemed far too close to her babies. A low growl rumbled in her throat as she put on a bit of speed and headed straight toward the smell, fearlessly. Through the mists she could see nothing but she knew someone was there and it unnerved her because they were too near her chrysali. Perhaps it was a misunderstanding but she did not know... It was time to act and get to the bottom of this.

Her voice, when she called out, was cool and calm. She didn't want to seem like she was freaking out or nervous about what was happening. No. That would just alarm someone that was truly ignorant or please someone malevolent. "Who are you? Can I provide any sort of assistance to you?" While she spoke she edged forward, blue eyes focused on the root where she kept her gem-cocoons. Was the intruder there? Or were they elsewhere?

Imperia
They'll call our crimes a work of art

Imperia had been walking through Cetus when they came across three chrysali. There was a yellow one, a pink one, and a dark multicolored one. They stared down at them, poking them a bit. They weren't really sure what to do. They couldn't be moved, could they? They were pretty sure they couldn't. They crouched down so they were closer and stared at them a bit more. Was someone guarding them? Was anyone even here? Or...had they left? Could they stay here, guard them, and when they hatched, teach them how to fight? They had no idea what the little ones would look like, and was suddenly overcome with curiosity.

Could Imperia teach them to fight? Their own...child would have someone to practice against besides themselves. Maybe they could even be fodder, their first kill. They continued to stare at them before lifting themselves and looking around. First they had to make sure nobody was around. And if someone was around...They'd just have to fight. Simple as that. A nice, good reason for a fight. They began to look around, which was a pointless act. They couldn't see very far.

Imperia was just about ready to walk around and look for someone when a voice was heard. They swung their head wildly toward the sound. They couldn't see anyone, but whoever was there would likely come closer. Perhaps they were the one who was supposed to be guarding these chrysali? Well, they weren't doing too good a job of it. "Who am I?" they hummed. "Why, that's simple. I'm Imperia. Fighter of others, destroyer of souls. Nothing big." They shrugged.

"Can you be of assistance? Hmm..let's see. That depends... Are these your chrysali?" Imperia could faintly see someone approaching now. Their gaze seemed to be fixed on the chrysali, but they couldn't tell for certain. If they were, then that would certainly explain their question. Imperia stood close to the chrysali, but also a slight distance away. As the figure drew closer, they began to have second thoughts. The other was larger than them, and appeared to be older. Perhaps they also had more fighting experience? They couldn't tell from this distance. And yet they stayed. They would not back out of a potential fight. Not now, not ever.

The voice when it came to her seemed to hum in absolute bliss, the lioness didn't know whether to count this a as a good thing or a bad thing. When the voice continued on she knew exactly that this was a bad thing. Imperia? Fighter and destroyer of souls? Hmph, they would be sorely disappointed to find out that she had no soul left to destroy... the cave had already accomplished that much when it took away her family. She supposed the speech was supposed to intimidate her but it only made her sad to find one of the tainted ones that the cave had spawned. The lioness sighed wearily and shook her head. "Very proud of what you do, it seems." So there would be no point in talking them out of it. Especially since this was a full grown gem and not a child with their childish games. No, they knew exactly what they were doing.

The lioness stepped closer, eyes squinting to see through the fog and up to the feline before her. Ears pricked forward, listening as the cat confirmed that they were indeed with her chrysali. It was unknown if her coat could be seen through the fog but she could tell that her hackles were rising and when she spoke there was a slight growl in her words. "They are and I would ask that you step away from them." With someone that wanted to label themselves as the "soul destroyer" she wanted them far away from her babies... but she would give them a chance. "That is your one and only warning." Her words held no hint of vehemence, they were absolutely calm. The lioness didn't make threats, only promises of what was to come if she wasn't listened to.

As much as she used to hate violence if that was what it came to then she would fight tooth and claw to protect what was hers. The order of everything in her world had changed.

They'll call our crimes a work of art

Imperia chuckled lowly. "I suppose one could say I am." They watched as the lioness seemed to step closer. When she spoke, they gave a small grin. They could sense the growl in her words. She clearly didn't like where the caracal was. They poked at one of the chrysali absently, scratching it ever so faintly with a claw. They wondered just how far they could push her before she broke.

"Only one warning? Wow. Careful, someone might think you actually care about these chrysali!" Imperia glanced from the chrysali up to the other. Their tiny tail flicked. They made to move away, as if to say "alright, you've won, I'll leave" but a moment later they turned right around, eyes gleaming.

"You know what? These are mighty fine chrysali. They would be nice for my...child," she spat out the word with a slight hint of disgust, "to practice fighting with. Maybe one of them could even be their first kill! Just imagine that. One of your babies gets to be my child's first kill! Doesn't that sound nice?" They chuckled again.

"Really, you should be honored I'd even let them live long enough to hatch. I could just destroy them right now!" Imperia wasn't even sure if they could, but that didn't mean they were going to act like they couldn't. They'd find a way. Not that they really wanted to destroy them. They did want to let them live, but only for a few cycles. Enough time for her own to grow up and kill them. Maybe they'd even die before then. Who knew? Either way, it'd be interesting. And even if the lioness didn't go away-and why would she?-they would still get a good fight out of this.

She should have known the warning would fall on deaf ears but it had born worth a shot. The lioness wouldn't attack for no reason, even if the other feline was begging for it with her harsh words. No... She was better than that. She shouldn't be goaded into attack...

Or should she?

Had she not said before that she was a monster. That monsters lived inside of them just waiting to be released?

Yes... She had... And this cat was pushing to to let hers escape.

The lioness said nothing at first, refusing to let the feline's words get to her. Instead her tail simply flicked, displaying nothing but her trying to swat away a bug that attempted to land on a spot near the tassel. More words poured from the tawny cat's maw, outlining their plans for her babies and their own. Destroyed in the head... Tainted... Evil... She should feel hatred and yet... All she could feel was pity. They'd let the caves get to them and now she would have to fight one of the monsters it had created. The lioness shook her head and heaved a weary sigh. For her children she might have to kill...

So be it.

She was done being nice...

"You can't... and you won't." The lioness stated simply before throwing a surge of her power at the feline. Without moving a muscle she flexed her mind and sent a wave of Arcane magick at the caracal in an attempt to grab their body and fling it away at a nearby tree. Perhaps a show of what she could do would be enough to scare them off.

Was Imperia finally going to get the fight he wanted? About time. He was tired of talking. Talking just wasted time, time that could be spent fighting! He crouched down, waiting for the first move. He waited...But nothing happened. Was she going to let him do the first move or- A thought occurred to him. He smirked. "Did your spell fail? Aww, what a shame. I was hoping to at least get something to start with. Guess I'll have to make the first move. Fine by me."

He crouched down and walked a bit closer, not wanting to completely miss the lioness when he used his spell. When he was certain he was close enough-which only took a couple of pawsteps-he took a deep breath, hoping to feel the fire beginning to come, to reach up through his throat. When he had waited enough, he let it all out in one breath, right in front of the lioness.

A failure. Ah, of course her magicka would fail her at this critical moment. The lioness could feel a frustrated growl rising in her throat, it was even more irritating when the caracal recognized her immobility as exactly what it was. However, the caracal's spell seemed to fully work and she was caught in the face and chest by a blast of heated air. She could feel the fur on her face and chest singing and the acrid smell of burnt fur rose into her nostrils, to avoid permanent damage she was forced to step back. This was not the first time she'd been burnt by fire magick, she could remember back to a time when she'd been play fighting with... with him and he'd done a similar thing that had left scratch marks on her chest. This was nothing, she could survive this. She would survive this and she would protect her babies while she was at it.

The growl that had been rumbling in her chest formed into an angered snarl and then a roar that bubbled out of her mouth and straight out at the cat. Even if the magicka didn't take hold then she would fight back with defiance! She was not afraid, she'd survived the extinction of her family and she would survive this!

Imperia
They'll call our crimes a work of art

Imperia felt a flash of satisfaction when his spell worked. He could smell the scent of burning fur and flesh, and he loved it. It was quickly becoming one of his favorite spells, because most of the time it meant that he was burning someone else. That someone else was in pain. That he was causing that pain.

He grinned when he heard the growl of the lioness turn into a snarl. He was making her angry, which could be a dangerous act but he didn't care. Adrenaline was racing through his veins, and he was so ready for this. What he wasn't ready for was the roar that followed not long after, and most certainly not the spell that accompanied it. He was blown back a bit by the blast of the spell. It wasn't nearly as strong as it could be, and for that the caracal was grateful. He was able to narrowly avoid falling down.

Imperia scowled at the lioness. He was done with the spells. It was time to really begin this battle. His claws were out and digging into the ground. He longed to rake his sharp claws across her face, make her bleed. He lifted his paw, preparing to strike.

Round: 2/7
Attack: scratch her face!
Defense: none
Injuries: burnt paws

RE: Who Goes There? - Nassir - Aug 02 2016

Nassir was walking through Cetus when he noticed something. He looked over and his eyes immediately widened at the sight. Two gembounds were fighting! There was a caracal and a lioness. He watched as the lioness roared and the caracal seemed to go back a bit, managing to not fall. He watched, eyes wide and wondering why they were fighting. Had one of them done something wrong? Which one had? Was it the caracal or lioness? Or were they just...fighting for one? Why would anyone even do that? This fight definitely looked serious...

He wondered if he should interrupt or just watch. He opted to just watch, at least for now. He didn't want anyone to get hurt, but he didn't know the circumstances of the fight. He didn't know if he would have to stop this fight or pick a side. Or maybe he would just watch. Both looked as though they had fought before, and he had never fought a day in his life. He didn't know how. He wanted to learn, so he could protect others, but he didn't want to get horribly injured himself. So for now he just watched, eyes narrowed and watching their every move.

Her wordless spell seemed to work this time, just barely though as the caracal seemed to go back a little ways but not fall off the root. Her children... She needed to protect her children! The urge to do something, anything to get that dangerous feline away from her babies overtook her. After that roar she crouched, ears tucking against her head while her eyes slit into twin pools of blue fire. Her claws unsheathed and gripped the loamy soil beneath her while she waited to see if the caracal would come towards her or taunt her more from up high. It seemed that it would be the former as the creature attacked and tried to rake her with claws outstretched.

With her defenses set in place she was easily able to dodge by leaping to the side, this time she reached out with her magick again. Reaching her mind into that invisible pool of energy to hopefully throw the caracal far away from her den where they could probably get to the down and dirty like the feline seemed to want to do. If successful her magick would wrap around the caracal's body and fling him forcefully away and hopefully hard enough into the ground or a tree that it would make him think twice about lunging at her again.
