being born sucks - Tukluk - Jul 29 2016 A rather tiny bloodstone chrysalis sat nearly invisible in the grass of Eridanus, beneath the shade of the Monarch. And inside, a tiny-ass monkey was waking up for the first time. And he was already grumpy. Why was it so cramped in here? And it was hot. Why was it so hot? Man, he needed to get outta here! But he could hardly move! His tiny muscles strained as he pushed against the walls of the chrysalis, and then with an odd crackling sound, the bloodstone split open to reveal one very small Gembound — a baby pygmy marmoset, who was about four and a half inches long, with a tail of about seven inches. Altogether, he was so small as to be nearly impossible to spot unless someone was nearly on top of him. And he was already very aware of how dangerous the world was when even the grass was taller than you. Suddenly he missed his cramped prison. Words: 155+ RE: being born sucks - Kin-Kin - Jul 29 2016 The she-wolf rather liked it here. She'd decided as much, and as a result had decided to stay... Admittedly more than anything for her own safety and 'training'. For there were things afoot here the wolf had been... Fortunate... Enough to dabble in, in recent days. The wolf didn't look down at the ground as she padded along, her ears pricked forward. This (as she should have learned by now) was a mistake- there were roots, rocks, and thorns, amongst other things, all lurking and waiting for her soft paw pads. But today it wasn't one of those she would end up stepping on... As she padded forward, the wolf felt something sharp crunch beneath her paw, and as she looked down, was met by the remains of a tiny chrysalis. She tipped her head to one side before looking around to see if the owner was nearby. There was no telling just how old it was though, Kin-Kin knew that it could have been there minutes or cycles without change. So she wasn't too surprised when she didn't see anything. She raised her head back up, and readied herself to keep moving. tagged: @Tukluk ooc: Mobile post :P muse: 6/10 "Talking looks like this!" Thinking looks like this... RE: being born sucks - Tukluk - Jul 29 2016 Tuck didn’t have much time to contemplate how he should avoid getting trampled because Oh my God he was about to get trampled! All he saw were a pair of gigantic legs and paws stomping their way toward him. In his mind, he imagined the ground shaking from the force of these paws, but in reality no such thing was occurring. But Tuck was a bit over-dramatic so… With a loud screech he scampered to the side of the paws — and just in time, too. Then he turned his head quickly all the way around to look behind him, an ability that all pygmy marmosets had, and finally saw the full creature instead of just the legs. It had a big snout! Like maybe it was gonna eat him! “Go away!” he shouted at it, trying to be brave when actually he was shaking pretty badly. He eyed all the trees around and decided he would make a mad dash for one of them if that thing tried to hurt him. As an afterthought, he added, “I no food!” Words: 180 @Kin-kin RE: being born sucks - Kin-Kin - Aug 19 2016 Kin-Kin heard a piercing screech, and flattened back her ears. When she looked around again, this time she knew exactly where to look. And this time she found exactly what she had been looking for. A tiny creature sat not too far away, looking at her and shouting at her. As much as that tiny voice could 'shout' anyway. But geez, it sure was a piercing one. Slowly, her ears rose upright again, and she lowered her head so that she could see them better. Go away? Well, that doesn't seem like much fun. Now does it? Her deep purple eyes examined them quizzically, and she gave a little chuckle. "Well, it's not like ya could do much if I tried, huh sport?" she said, ears twitching. "Lucky for you, you don't exactly look gourmet!" She sniffed, slowly settling down into a lying position so that she could stare right at them without craning her neck. Her plumed tail curiously flicked from side to side, and she shrugged her shoulders so that the blue fabric was shifted over her. "I bet you'd get stuck in my teeth something rotten." She winked, before letting out a chiming laugh. tagged: @Tukluk ooc: Sorry it took so long! muse: 9/10 "Talking looks like this!" Thinking looks like this... RE: being born sucks - Tukluk - Aug 22 2016 The more this wolf spoke, the less Tukluk liked her. He already had decided that he didn’t like to be teased. He was too small for such teasing not to frighten him a little, like maybe the wolf really couldn’t be trusted, and she wasn’t really just teasing. Maybe she would lunge forward and eat him when he least expected it. She made a move toward him and he leaped backwards by about ten feet (Pygmy Marmosets can leap fifteen feet at maximum). Afterwards, though, he realized she was just laying down, and the skin beneath his fur grew hot from embarrassment. He hopped slowly back over to the she-wolf, eyebrows furrowing as he studied her, lower lip stuck out a little as he tried to decide whether she could be trusted. Finally, he asked her in the broken speech of a newly-hatched Gemling, “Who you?” Words: 148 @Kin-Kin RE: being born sucks - Kin-Kin - Aug 23 2016 She wasn't about to say as much though. Scaring them away wouldn't have been any fun. Besides, it was a cruel world out there. She might as well send them packing with a bit more of a chance. And who better to give them that chance than her? "Name's Kin-Kin!" she introduced herself in response to their broken question. She bowed her head in greeting, ears flicking back. "what about you? Do you have a name, kid?" RE: being born sucks - Tukluk - Aug 23 2016 Tuck couldn’t help but flinch when the wolf bent down towards him to sniff at him. He hopped back a bit, too, and put his arms over his head, giving the canine an annoyed glare. “No smell Tukluk! Tuck no like be smelled! What if Tuck smell you? Bend down over you, make you feel small? You like that? No! So don’t do that to Tuck!” He was very quickly learning language, even if it was still broken, and he was also quickly settling into his personality. He didn’t want the wolf to think of him as a small, simple Gembound who couldn’t do much because of his size, so he made up for his lack of size and strength with his words. He continued to glare at her while she told him her name. Then she proceeded to patronize him while asking for his. “No call Tuck kid! Tuck’s name Tuck!” Yeah… Hopefully this belligerent behavior wouldn’t come back to bite him in the ass later… Words: 167 @Kin-Kin RE: being born sucks - Kin-Kin - Aug 25 2016 Kin-Kin raised her head back, though her nose kept on twitching. Perhaps they were more alike than Kin-Kin cared to admit. She didn't care to admit it, but she could see them taking the same path she did. Taking their fear and using it to become stronger. That, Kin-Kin would like to see. So, their name was Tukluk. "How sweet." She unfurled her front paws from her chest, giving them a brief stretch, before curling up, brushing her plumed tail around her haunches as though she were about to sleep. Lazily, she rested her chin upon her paws and just looked at them. "...You still look like a kid to me!" She sniffed, a wolfish smirk decorating her pointed features. RE: being born sucks - Tukluk - Aug 25 2016 God, this wolf was annoying! At least she’d stopped sniffing him so much, though he glared quite obviously at her nose, which continued to twitch in his general direction. Being so young, he was tempted to break wind, thinking, That’ll give her something to smell! But ultimately he decided against it, the biggest reason being that he didn’t feel the need to break wind at the moment, probably because there was nothing in his stomach. Which made him realize… “I hungry!” he complained, glaring up at the wolf again as if it were her fault. The fact she still insisted on calling him a kid didn’t make his opinion of her any higher, in all honesty. He decided to ignore her for now in his attempt to find food, and looked around curiously at his new home. It was very green here, and the scent of plants and moisture clung to the air. It was nice and warm here, too. Maybe he’d find some food and then take a nap. He ran-hopped across the ground in an ungraceful manner. Marmosets were tree creatures. They didn’t move as well along the ground as they did when they were clinging to the side of a tree or leaping from branch to branch. Presently, he came across some low-hanging berries on a bush and sniffed at them experimentally. Some instinct told him to check for poison before eating things, but these did not smell bad so he picked one and put it in his mouth greedily. Now he was fully unaware of the wolf, having forgotten she’d existed in the first place. Words: 271 @Kin-Kin -- lmao I'm sorry Tuck is so horrible. XD RE: being born sucks - Kin-Kin - Sep 02 2016 But nowadays, the rule was "no talky, no qualms". If something looked tasty and didn't tell her to stop, she'd have it. Such was her life, and kids needed to learn that if they had to survive out here. However, it seemed like they wouldn't have to. They were a fruit-eater it seemed. Kin-Kin couldn't help but wonder what they tasted like, if they were as sweet as her nose told her or just a waste of time. Maybe she should have tried already. With a grunt as she shifted her weight, she rocked herself to her paws and shook the ruffles from her fur. Gah. Ain't no harm in trying. With dainty paws falling softly, she followed the scent of the little creature who'd taken off. She came upon them greedily devouring an abundance of low-hanging fruit, fruit that she could easily reach or better yet, put just out of theirs. That thought put a smile on her face but instead of approaching, she stood there with a wicked little smirk growing on her face and waited for them to notice she'd followed. words:
