Icarus

The Guardian

Icarus became aware of being encased in a warm goo-y liquid, which resided in a round, egg-like structure that glimmered like the ceiling of Orion. Actually, his chrysalis was made from purple fluorite asturias, but there was no way the cub could know that. He turned and struggled within the gem-structure that was too small for him now and began to crack with every kick and push of his tiny, white paws. Cracks echoed through the cave outside and the liquid inside the egg and the gembound pushed stronger against the dark walls.

"Urgh!" Icarus coughed once the chrysalis gave away and he fell out. His blue eyes opened as he instinctly shook himself to get rid of the fluid covering his white pelt. He made a sound, disgusted by the feeling of the cold liquid clinging to him. He couldn't seem to get rid of it all, however much he shook himself. The tiger groaned and lifted his head, now focusing on his surroundings. Lights shone from the ceiling, looking like distant, unreachable paws of pure energy. Icarus stood on his hindlegs and reached for them, only to wobble on his weak legs and fall over. A displeased scowl appeared on the cub's face as he stood up again, now content with staying on four legs and staring at the distant lights from where he was.
He wondered how these lights would feel. How far above him where they? Was there anyone tall enough to reach- was there anyone at all in this cave? Icarus looked around him, hoping to see someone. He couldn't be all alone, could he?

"Listen to me."

RE: sturmfrei - Bevy - May 22 2015

Enna had no idea where she- where Bevy- had been. She had gotten horribly lost when she had never had any intention to leave the safety of Pisces ever again. For once in the bright red bird's life, she was happy to find Polaris, even if it meant risking the golems that attacked gembounds. The ones Ratchie had awoken-- okay, maybe using their magic on them was Enna's idea..

She was flitting, flying through the open cave, when she heard a noise and saw almost immediately the newborn cub. A white, stripy animal shaped like Ky or Cancer-- indeed, it was a feline! Knowing that it might be dangerous here for the kitten, she swooped down to land in front of him.

"Hello there!" She chirped, having known every feline she had ever met to be kind and friendly. Her wings tucked neatly at her side, and she shivered with the left over adrenline from flight. Ratchie was the one who usually flew, and it still made her nervous to do herself.

She tilted her head, hoping for a response that showed cleverness. She had something very scary to tell the baby, and if she had to be delicate she would. If he was smart (and not all gembounds were, right from the get go, even though Cancer had) then she could simply tell him the danger and encourage him to follow her away.

"I'm Bevy, who are you?"

BABY IF YOU WANT ME THEN ALL OF THIS WILL GO AWAY

Her eyes opened in a flash. Suddenly she was aware of her existence, and as she took in her blurry surroundings through the amethyst rock that surrounded her, she realized that she couldn't breathe. The girl attempted to cry out but couldn't, as some sort of thick, gooey liquid surrounded her and abruptly entered her nose and mouth. She attempted to shriek but all that erupted from her mouth was a few small air bubbles that floated to the top of the chrysalis and stayed there. Despite only have coming to life a few seconds ago, she knew she was about to die and needed to give it her all if she were going to survive. Instinct told her that she should kick, and so she did. The zebra foal bucked with all her might and felt the stone surrounding her give way with a crack.

As the pressure in the stone was released, she was pulled out of the goop and into fresh air. The girl gasped, and sucked air in with both her nose and her mouth. She coughed, and after a few minutes of lying on the hard stone of the cave floor, she was able enough to finally look around and consider where she was, or rather, who she was. What was going on, and what had just happened? The answers to these questions she didn't know, she she shrugged it off and focused on something else. The filly looked to her feet, and realized she had... what were they called? Hooves? Hooves! She had hooves! What a miraculous observation, she thought. She decided in that instant that hooves were good, and anything without them should be treated as what they were: pests, undesirables, and good-for-nothings.

The girl finally decided to pick herself up. She had recovered for long enough, and now it was time to explore! As she walked, she thought of names for herself. None seemed to fit so far, so she decided to drop it as she trotted along. Her eyes darted back and forth as she observed the life around her, wondering how it came to be what everything was. She was so captured by her surroundings that she almost stepped on the bird that was known as Bevy. Of course Adira--yes, that was her name--had heard her the bird's introduction, she just hadn't processed it until that exact moment. "Oh!" she said. It was a disgusting creature, she thought, one without hooves. Next to it was another disgusting creature, and Adira grimaced at the two.

Icarus

The Guardian

Childish joy filled Icarus thoughts when a gembound landed in front of him. A tiny, winged and feathered creature, greeting him with a warm welcome into the world. The cub's ebony lips turned upwards into a small smile. "'ello." He answered, the H being lost in the fumble of the gembound's first words.

Despite being new to the world, something in Icarus understood the concept of names and simply accepted it right then and there. He tilted his head to the side and looked at the bird named Bevy with his huge blue eyes. "Icarus." The young gembound said instantly, just a second before he'd realized that this sound was familiar because it was his name, like something given to him by a parent the moment he'd been created. The sound stayed with him in the chrysalis and now it would stay with him for the rest of his life too.

Crack. The sound echoed through the cave and Icarus recognized it from his own emergence. His head turned towards the origin of the sound and saw a stripped foal climb out of the remains of her chrysalis. She stood up and looked over at them, a few seconds passing before her face showed a grimace. It didn't look like she was - Icarus searched for the right word in his head and found none. "Hello." He greeted, smile widening a little. His clumsy paws took their first steps towards the horned gembound.

With his first steps, Icarus noticed that his right paw felt different from the others. Not a feeling he could name yet, but definitely present. The cub stopped in its tracks and looked down at the claws of its right paw. And indeed, they looked different from the others.
The claws of his right front paw shimmered in the light coming from the ceiling, giving off a light, purple glow. Icarus was silently mesmerized and lifted the paw to inspect the claws further.

"Listen to me."

RE: sturmfrei - Bevy - May 24 2015

The white fluffball replied with a friendly hello and a name, Icarus. The word spoke to Bevy, but in ways she didn't quite understand. She didn't have much time to consider it, either, as another white and stripy animal hatched and came over. It seemed bizarre that two similar colored but differently shaped beasts would hatch at the same time, so close to each other, but Bevy considered this to be to her advantage. She could help out two creatures at once.

Icarus managed to say hello before she did, her mind lost in the thought of coming up with the right words. "Oh, yes, hello!" She tweeted, a bit dazed. This was quite the development, and the small bird wasn't the most social of butterflies. "Listen, um. It's a bit dangerous here, little ones," she peeped, hopping back up into the air with a few flaps of her wings.

"I don't want to worry you and all, but it would really be a good idea for us to head towards the tunnels." It seemed like cat had got distracted by his sharp, sharp claws. The pair of white and black animals both had purple gems, a curious thing indeed. Perhaps that was as close to siblings as Gembounds got, unless they were the same shape. She had plenty of bird friends who she could almost, almost consider family. She hoped these two would get along, because not all gems were friendly to one another and it would make her very important job quite difficult.

Her bright multicolored irises flashed towards the nearest cavern, tunnel H, the one that was icy and cold. She had taken the path once before, and it was easy to get mixed up in, but it would take them to almost anywhere from Polaris. Somewhere safe like Pisces, if they wanted to follow her there. Fluttering among the two larger animals, the bird awaited their reactions to her advice.

RE: sturmfrei - Adira - May 26 2015

She sneered at the creatures' greetings, and then scoffed. Neither creature was anything like her save for the stripey one... What was it called? Oh yes, a tiger! She and the tiger had black and white stripes, and it infuriated her. How dare he copy her? He shouldn't copy her! He shouldn't be anything like her! The zebra looked at her companions with menace, and when the cub approached her, she whinnied and stepped back from him. "Don't come near me, you fool!" she cried out in her high-pitched, horse voice, her words a bit slurred from her baby tongue. "If you do... well..." she trailed off, thinking of a good threat. "I'll kick you! Really hard!"

Lucky for the boy, he stopped his advance before he neared her. She scoffed once again, and thought about leaving the group as she paced back and forth. It was obvious that they couldn't match her superior intelligence or even her strength and speed. It was only when she noticed the tiger cub staring at his gem claws that she stopped. He seemed fascinated, but who knows what he was thinking. Perhaps the carnivore was devising the best way to sink his teeth into her throat. On wobbly legs, she put up a defensive stance and watched the feline closely, in case he tried anything.

It was then the bird that spoke up. Adira hadn't payed much attention to her so far, probably because she was small and wasn't as much of a threat to the zebra as much as the carnivore. The girl shook her head and snorted in her horse-like way. She moved close to the bird, and lowered her head as to face her. "What makes you think I'd trust you? A filthy two-legged! At least the boy has four feet," she said in a stern voice. Adira wasn't going anywhere with these freaks!
