Bending Over Backwards, Never Good Enough - Imperia - Oct 03 2016
Imperia led Aaliyah to a section of Polaris. They looked down at her. She was growing, but she was still very young. Only halfway to being an adult. They grunted.
"Alright, I want you to listen to me. I'm going to teach you how to fight. And I'm going to do it by fighting you. It'll be a brief fight, only about 3 rounds. So you and I each get 3 possible attacks. They can be combat, or magic. You can go first." They lowered themselves, eyes fixed on the cub before them. "Let the battle begin."
"Listen to me."

Aaliyah followed Imperia, unsure of what else to do. When they stopped, she had to skid to a halt quickly or else she'd bump into them. She managed to avoid doing so, and watched as Imperia looked down at her. She tilted her head. When they told her to listen, her ears pricked up. They were going to...fight? But she didn't know how! She had only ever seen them in one battle...And too much had been happening at once! For one, the two had seemed to know each other. And she had a crystal...thing! Aaliyah didn't have that.
When she was told she had to go first, she blinked. What was she to do? Maybe using her magic would be a good starter...That was what they had done, right? She couldn't remember. She took a deep breath, hoping by all means that it would work! She had to please Imperia somehow. She didn't know how burning her would do so, but maybe if it worked really well she would get praised! She wanted to smile at that thought, but prevented herself from doing so. She had a spell to do!

Imperia watched Aaliyah through narrowed eyes, waiting for her first move. It came quickly enough in the form of a spell. They let it wash over them for a moment before it died down. Their fur was burning, but they didn't care. It would stop soon enough. "Not bad for a first attempt, however it may not be a good idea to rely on magic for your first attack. Don't want to seem like a fool, do you?"
Quickly, they lashed out, aiming right for her face.

Aaliyah was grateful that her spell had worked. She was worried that it wouldn't! But as Imperia just...took it, she frowned. Did that even hurt them at all? As they spoke, she lowered her ears slightly. That was no praise! Her tail flicked lightly.
As soon as they stopped speaking, they lashed out, catching her off guard. She let out a yelp as she felt claws rake across her cheek, blood dripping down. She blinked. So that had just happened. Why were they always hurting her? Did she have to hurt them back? How? This is hardly even training!
Aaliyah didn't know what else to do, so she did the same that they had done to her. She lashed out at them, claws fully unsheathed.

Imperia was able to deftly dodge the attack. "Oh please, you can do better than that!" she grunted, eyes narrowed. She waited for a moment before pouncing, aiming to pin her down. Her paws slammed down against the shoulders of the hybrid, successfully pinning her, perhaps with more force than necessary.

Aaliyah lowered her ears when her attack failed. Of course it had to fail! She'd never be good at this. She waited for Imperia's attack. When it came, it caught her by surprise, and she was pinned down, claws digging harshly into her shoulders. She cried out in both surprise and pain. How was she supposed to get her off? The caracal was way bigger than her! She was still young. What could she do?
The heat clearly hadn't had any effect on her, so that wouldn't work. Maybe she could use her hind legs? She didn't have much of a choice.

Imperia continued to dig her claws into Aaliyah's shoulders. She would have to start fighting better than that! She waited as the hybrid made her next decision. She figured she'd use her spell, which of course would have no effect on her. So she was surprised when she felt hind claws begin to rake at her belly. She loosened her grip and after trying to stay, she instead backed away. That wasn't a bad move.
"Not bad." She then began to try and collect spit in her mouth, wanting to try one of her newer spells. She then spit it out at Aaliyah, hoping to burn her.
