Recuperating - Makyna - May 23 2015

Life is precious.

It hadn't been too long that she and Leon had practiced at Eridanus and her chest still felt like fire was coursing through it. Not to mention it hurt to walk... So, until she felt a little better she lay at her den --or she liked to think of it as her den, it was really just that was slightly sheltered from the water-- with her chest on the cool ground. It felt nice to just lay like that.

Her clear blue eyes gazed out from the ledge to the falls, watching them flow down to the lagoon. It was rather peaceful and nice to just lie here... even though she would like to explore. Ah well, you couldn't have it both ways. The lioness stretched her paws out in front of her in a way that looked unnatural for cats but felt nice to her.

As she lay there recuperating, the lioness had a thought to herself. Why couldn't she practice her magic? A while back she'd learned how to tap into her abilities and use them without just doing it by accident. So, she pondered on a new spell... One she'd never tried before just to see if she could do it while she lay there.

The result was a slight glow to her gem and the sound of whispering around the cave. There was no voice to it just a simple whispering but with it being coupled with the sound of the falls was rhythmic, soothing, like a song from the waves. It echoed around or a while, barely pulling at Ky's magic reserves. Maybe she was getting better.

RE: Recuperating - Cancer - May 25 2015

ooc: Cancer headboops her like a cat cause cats.
Her song woke the beast above.

Golden eyes fluttered open against the misty spray of the falls. He could hear the whispering voice, sort of, as it fluxed around the room. Cancer sat up in surprise, though he didn't feel as if he should be afraid or worried. In fact, it was soothing, almost. He could see Makyna's form below, across from him, on the other end of the falls and lagoon. There, he could see, just barely, the soft glow of her jewel. She was using magic? Whatever for?

He slipped down to approach her, noting that he hadn't seen her since the meeting of Council last week. As he rounded the lagoon, though, he noted the red marks on her chest, and felt a heat rush up his spine, into his cheeks. His expression changed from gentle, just-woken curiosity to wakeful concern and anger. Who had done this? Those marks were not from any accidental fall or tumble. Those were the marks of attack.

"Makyna?" He approached her with his tail swinging high, and as he came to stand before her, he'd even offer to bump heads- that almost instinctive feline welcome they could share with no one else, since no one else could understand those tail flicks and the physical language of the feline race. "I haven't seen you in days. What's happened? Are you alright?" He tried to feign a calm demeanor but the quiver at the edge of his voice gave away his concerns.

Despite that, he made an honest effort to appear calm and collected, friendly even. He'd settle down a foot from her, letting his back legs stretch out beside him as he eased himself onto his elbows and chest. He wondered for a moment if the injury was the result of a run-in with the golems in Polaris, but then doubted she'd have gone that far without someone with her. Pisces had only seen two or three creatures there at any one time- Cancer being one, Midas another, and Bevy the third. Leon and Makyna seemed more interested in exploring, which for Leon's sake, suited Cancer just fine. This, however, was what he'd been afraid of in regards to Makyna- injuries. Danger. He only had one other cat to share his life with, and it was her. He'd not let that go without a fight. Not for any reason.

As he laid there waiting for her response, he easily sent out an echo of his own sort- using Red Sense to check for anyone who might be listening in. He didn't feel too keen on Leon or Azazel jumping in to steal away Makyna's attention this time. He was after answers, and was reeling at the chance to finally interact with her one-on-one for a change. When his little 'echo' showed him a dark and quiet cave, besides the fish in the waters around them, the leopard visibly relaxed. A soft glow from his horns and eyes was the only tell of this magic use, otherwise.

Life is precious.

The lioness lay on her cool bed of stone and water half in and half out of her realm of dreams. It was only when she heard the sound of approaching pawsteps did she lift her head and start to release the magic of her whispered song. It gradually died away as the male approached her. A smile slowly made its way across her face when he came. It was so nice to have the presence of another feline. Not that she didn't enjoy her other friends because she did. There were just some things that felines could do instinctively that everyone else couldn't.

"Hello, Cancer." She said kindly, extending her own head to reciprocate the feline head bump. It felt so nice to be able to do so. It was also nice that Cancer came down to visit her. They hadn't really gotten to talk to each alone too much seeing as she was either with her bear friend or adventuring.

At his questions which she could tell were laced with concern the lioness leaned down to lick the wound at her chest self-consciously. Her rear legs laid out to the side in a posture that mirrored the leopard's, it was more comfortable while she was sitting up like this. "I'm alright." She should probably explain what happened but she knew that Cancer and Leon weren't on best terms. The lioness had no idea why they couldn't get along, they were both kind gembounds. It seemed that ever since they'd met they had some sort of vendetta against each other.

With a sigh she continued on, "Me and Leon went off to practice together in Eridanus but our play fight got a bit out of paw. As you can see..." The lioness leaned back a bit so the leopard could get a better look at the claw marks burned into her fur. "It was an accident though!" This last bit was added hastily lest the leopard try to make some campaign against the bear cub.

"Leon feels terrible about it, as do I. It was my idea to even do the play fight... so it's my fault that this happened." Truly that was the way she felt. Besides, she didn't like placing all of the blame on the bear. He felt bad enough without her or anyone else shaming him further.

RE: Recuperating - Cancer - May 26 2015

ooc: here we see cancer trying very, very hard to be nice. |D
Makyna explained what happened, and at first, Cancer grew tense. He glanced over to where the bear normally slept and those eyes narrowed. He's supposed to protect, not harm. Damn bear... Makyna jumped to Leon's defense and for a moment, Cancer looked at her crossly. She couldn't possibly take the blame- she hadn't been the one using their claws, after all. But, she seemed anxious about discussing it, so back-peddling, Cancer sighed and released the tension built up in his shouders. With a flicking tail, he submitted. She'd win.

"Accidents do happen, I guess. So long as you're alright." He'd offer her a smile, then turn to glance around the cave. "Wish he'd be careful, though. Not all of us are made of fur like he is." The sly grin that followed was a result of the image of a shaven, scrawny thing under all that fur, popping into his head. He shook the thought away. "So have you been anywhere interesting? Since Polaris?" It had been nice having Makyna around for that one. He hadn't been the only big-pawed feline on that trip, trying to keep up with flat-footed bears and flying birds.

He glanced back at her, and that gaze settled there. She was pretty, her little sapphire perfectly placed between like-colored eyes. Very pretty, the way they shone when she used her magic, or whenever she got excited, how they'd light up in another sort of bright wonder. His eyes fell on the stripe on her cheek, and he didn't catch himself before he smiled, almost stupidly. It was cute, like a birthmark, and if he tilted his head ever so slightly, he could imagine it shaped like a heart. Despite the contrasting gray color, it suited her. Of course, the boy didn't even notice himself staring.

Makyna could almost feel Cancer's disdain growing with those narrowed eyes and that look he gave her. Makyna had hardly ever had anger directed at her but even in this small amount she didn't like it and found herself shrinking back. Excuses bubbled up in her mind to try and defend the bear and herself but they just died in her throat. In one fell swoop though Cancer dismissed it all. He eased his posture and sighed which caused the lioness to release the breath she didn't know she had been holding.

"He just got a little too carried away is all. Could have happened to any of us." Then again if it happened to anyone else they probably wouldn't have done as much damage. No one else had fire claws like he did. "We'll be more careful next time." She said decisively and with a nod. That was true. When they sparred again --for she had every intention of trying again with her best friend-- she would be careful to watch Leon carefully in case he got too into the fight.

The change of subject was welcome though and she managed to put on a friendly --if not relieved-- smile. "Yeah! Lots of places! Or a few." The lioness tapped her claws on the rock as she attempted to remember the place she'd frequented. It seemed like she would be able to put her exploring and adventuring skills to use and report on the goings-on in the cave. "I've been to Eridanus and met a young wolf named Rohan. He had some strange metal 'armor' on his chest with some bones, said he was returning it to some strange friend of his. Me and Leon also went past Polaris to Tunnel O and saw another wolf. He was very young, newly hatched, and really really shy... Hopefully we can get them to.. to..." Her head tilted to the side. What was Cancer looking at?

Her head turned to look behind her but no one was there. Now she turned back to him, eyes meeting his. Was... Was he staring at her? Self-consciously the lioness lifted a paw to her cheek. Was there something on it? She licked her paw and brought it over her face to wash but there he was still staring. Finally, unable to take it anymore the lioness' looked first left and then right before looking back at Cancer. "Uh..." Well, how would she ask this nicely?

She couldn't. "Are you staring at me?" Her head tilted to the side as she looked quizzically at him. Why on earth would he be staring? Did he think she was ugly or weird? The thought was almost enough to make her want to leave in shame.

ooc: ABORT ABORT ABORT
Cancer didn't notice her looking about at first, but then realized his mistake the moment they made eye contact. He didn't know what to do, or say, but felt the rush of blood in his ears and cheeks, under dark fur. When she called him out on it, he sat upright in a bolt of movement and looked away, fur ruffled and ears pinned back.

"Staring? I wasn't staring. I just just, uhm," He immediately defended, stammering to find the right words to fix this. She probably thinks I'm weird now. He grieved, looking for something behind her to act like he'd been staring at. Nothing but rocks. He grimaced. "I mean, I was, but I didn't mean to, I just..." He pointed suddenly to his cheek, where her stripe would've been. "Your stripe! It's, uh, gray! I was just, uhm," More stammering. "I mean, it's pretty," Then, gasping, he startled. "COOL! Pretty cool, I mean! Not pretty like pretty. Not that your stripe isn't pretty! I just, I uh, I mean," Then came the horrible, awkward laughter as he inched backwards, subconsciously wrapping his tail around his hind legs as he went...

...and with a tangle of tail around limbs, the boy yelped and went down. His paws flailed in the air as he slipped off the edge of the lagoon and backwards into it. With a splash, the boy disappeared beneath the water and it took him a good minute to turn himself around again and race for the surface. Before breaking to breath, he hesitated- did he really want to surface and face her again? His lungs made up his mind for him, and he broke near the center of the lagoon, gasping in air dramatically and flailing to get himself turned about quickly. Then, facing her, sodden wet, he treaded water- too scared to try returning to shore just yet.

The lioness looked confused. He was too staring! She'd caught him and now he was just back-peddling. Her eyes narrowed ever so slightly in suspicion. "Yes, you were. I saw you!" Why was he lying? If he'd been caught just own up to the action. She wouldn't have been mad, she was only curious as to why he was staring. That was all. "Just what?" Her voice was curious as he continued to stammer and look like a mouse caught between a cat's paws.

Her stripe? What about her stripe? She knew it was gray and she knew it was there! Was it ugly? Did he not like it? The lioness had thought neither way about it, it was just there.

Then, he said it... It was pretty.

Makyna's eyes widened in shock and then all at once it dawned on her. He hadn't been staring because she was ugly... He'd been staring because she was pretty! The lioness wanted to squeal with joy. No one had ever told her she was pretty! Not even Leon! The rest of his words fell on partly deaf ears as the female turned her head demurely, staring up at him through half-lidded eyes. Pretty? Her? It was almost too much to take in.

When Cancer stood up and started to add some literal back-peddling to his figurative the lioness stood and began to slowly follow him. A satisfied smile on her face as her clear blue eyes locked onto his. Now that she thought about it... His form was pleasing to her eyes. His coat was dark and lovely with those two adorable horns on his head. He was pretty too! Perhaps she should just tell him so-- Oh!

The little leopard cub disappeared over the edge of the lagoon, right into the water! It was enough to snap Makyna out of her little trance as she rushed to the edge of the water to watch for him. "Cancer! Are you alright?" She asked with worry. After a minute passed the lioness was ready to leap in after him but stopped when she saw the cub break near the center of the water. Poor thing!

Finally the girl made up her mind and waded into the water after him. The wound across her chest felt better for the cool water and so long as she didn't stay too long it shouldn't open up again. The lioness was a decent swimmer and made her way over to Cancer, that satisfied and demure expression on her face again. "You think I'm pretty?" She said with mock-severity. After waiting a moment for an answer she burst into laughter and then attempted to dunk him under the water.

She would only briefly dunking him she splashed in the water happily before saying, "I think you're pretty too!" This was turning out to be a good day.

RE: Recuperating - Cancer - May 26 2015

ooc: dorky cubs. xD
Cancer was so sure she'd be mad at him for his antics and rudeness, that when she started wading out after him, seemingly purposeful smile across her face, he debated swimming away. He backed up as she got closer, looking very, very scared, until she stopped and called him out, yet again, on what he'd said in his baffled babble. Pretty. He went wide-eyed and red in the face, opened his mouth to deny her claims, then found himself being shoved under the water rather suddenly. His yell of protest came out in the form of muffled voice and bubbles.

A moment later, he sputtered to the surface again, looked her way with a cross expression, then yet again, she threw him for a loop- a third time- calling him pretty too. Pretty!? Boys weren't supposed to be pretty! Did she think he was girly!? Oh gods beneath, she thought he was girly! He opened his mouth a moment, then closed it, spitting some water out, then again, gaping like a fish, at a loss for words.

"Really?" Came his idiotic response, voice cracking as if to add to his boyish effect. "Wait, what?" He shook his head to try and clear his fluttering confusion, the as he calmed a bit, he grinned challengingly. "I'm not pretty! I'm a boy!" He swung a front paw to splash her, pushing himself away in the process but clearly in play. Ah, young love.

Oh dear, there was that expression again. The slightly angered one or sour one like he'd had a mouthful of lemons. Makyna would have shied away again but she was far too happy now! This was turning out to be quite the lovely day! However, it disappeared quite quickly as he began cycling for words. Silly boy. Couldn't he just take the compliment.

"Of course! You're very pretty! I find your fur to be really nice!" She said gleefully as she paddled in the water. "Boys can be-- Hey!" The lioness squealed happily as the water splashed over her fur. Wetting the already slick substance further. Oh! Now he was in for it!

The lioness giggled as she swam after him, she could just see Cancer's tail below the surface and made a move to grab it and pull. That would show that silly boy!

"No fair!" She cried swinging her paw in the water as well. Though the other male was already getting away. "Well! I think you're very pretty! The most prettiest boy there is!" She said tauntingly as she chased after him.

RE: Recuperating - Cancer - May 26 2015

ooc: short x:
Cancer found himself flustered as she kept throwing that compliment his way. At first he thought it weird, to be called pretty like a girl, but as she grabbed his tail and started tussling, he found himself laughing along with her, pawing the water to get away and out of her reach in play. He dipped under the water and spun around beneath, the better swimmer for his species, and came up behind her a moment later with a gasp and laugh.

"Even prettier than Leon?" He teased back, whilst swimming for land again. He laughed as he pulled himself out of the water, dripping wet and soggy. Then, after a moment, he shook off and looked back, fur sticking out all over, ruffled but now wet, showing off dark spots that coated him despite his black pelt. They only ever showed under light, on wet fur, but they were there. He swung his tail to beckon her out of the water. "C'mon, let's go dry off by the moss beds. You can tell me all about how pretty you think my fur is over there, okay?" He'd laugh, waiting for her before turning to trot his way over to the moss.
