Draconian Ties - Baratheon - Dec 30 2016

The dragon found that a lot had changed since his last go round. The caves seemed to be much quieter and the scents of old friends seemed stale. While this should have been disheartening he found it difficult to truly feel... sad. Times were constantly changing and sitting around and feeling sad about it wouldn't change anything. He just had to stay with the times and plan ahead and make the most of whatever situation he found himself in. Like now.

He wandered through the tunnels until he happened upon Polaris, the core with the feeling of magickal energy crackling inside of it. Even just standing in this room filled him with a surge of power and he let out a trumpeting roar. Yes, this was what he needed. The dragon stopped and lifted his head to the sky, eyes closing as he breathed in deep. Warm air rushed into his lungs, filling him with power as he unfolded his wings and took to the skies. Another roar was sounded as he pumped his wings harder and harder and gained speed, he hadn't flown like this in a while. Not since he used to do his patrols in Eridanus, the place he liked to consider his home, though perhaps he would move elsewhere. He remembered being rather fond of Orion as well.

A grin formed on his face as he shook his head and cleared those thoughts away. Now was not the time of thinking on new dwellings. Now was the time to savor life and enjoy the feeling of flight!

He flew thrice around Polaris, pushing himself faster and faster until finally he alighted on the spire and looked down at his "domain". Ah, yes... He forgot how good it felt to just be alive. He lifted his head into the air once more and stared down at a herd of fleeing cave deer with a smirk. Yes... Let them flee...

RE: Draconian Ties - Nox - Dec 31 2016

Equinox had been rather unsure of herself recently. it wasn't that she was cowardly or pusillanimous, it was just that... well, her presence seemed to invite disaster. No matter where she went, she always ended up scaring someone, blowing some shit up, or just otherwise doing something wrong. The creature couldn't understand it. and she hated feeling like this. she didn't want to be the cause of everyone's suffering. She didn't try to drip slime everywhere, or set said slime on fire. It just kind of happened, most of the time. From now on, Equinox felt that it would be best to keep the deadly fire locked inside of herself. She didn't have any real other options.

As a result of the disaster that had resulted from her last trek to Eridanus, Nox thought it best to travel somewhere where there were less trees to accidentally set on fire, and that train of thought had brought her here to Polaris. She was just wandering down towards the banks of the crystal river for a drink to whet her drying hide, when a roar suddenly resonated throughout the cavern. Equinox froze immediately, her beak only an inch from the water's surface. Not a moment later she reared her head back, maw wide open as she scanned the cavernous sky.

Soon, another great bellow followed. A rush of air fell upon her and she saw something fly overhead- something huge, and loud, with large wings and an even larger voice box. A ripple ran over her slimy skin, beginning at the top of her head and spreading all the way to the tip of her tail. It came from unmistakable nervousness. What did this creature want? She'd never seen anything like it before- and that worried her... until she realized that other creatures likely felt the same about her. Suddenly fear was mostly replaced by curiosity, and a sliver of hopefulness that maybe this strange creature was no different than she was. She lowered her head and looked at her reflection... she had bulbous wings, a long neck, and a reptilian tail. Could she finally have found one of her own kind? She doubted it, but was unable to stop her hopes mounting.

Don't be silly, you'll never be able to fly, not with these wings.

Dropping her head, Equinox filled her belly with as much water as she could hold, before backing away from the waters edge. She wanted desperately to respond to their call- if that's what that roar was. She wrestled with that feeling for a while, worried that if she did, it would bring the wrong kind of attention to light.

But she told herself to loosen up a little. That's what Tukluk had said too, wasn't it? loosening up had made him happy... and maybe just this once it would work for her.

She had nothing to lose.

Equinox sucked in a huge, deep breath, stretched out her neck towards the sky and opened her jaws. Her chest began to throb with sound and a deep, gurgling rumble emerged. It was an alien sound to match her alien appearance, and probably the most pathetic roar the caves had ever heard.

Needless to say, it wasn't a long one. Equinox's beak soon snapped shut, and the creature instead began to lope towards the spire with long strides, spiked textures rippling over her body as nerves caused it to look almost like a stormy sea. She could see them there, huge and towering and looking over the world.

Can they see me?

Fear told her to stop and turn back, and with every step she wrestled against conflicting emotions. Reaching the base of the spire, she came to a halt and looked up, slime gathering around her paws as it dripped down her ankles. Her skin still convulsed and contorted, betraying her inner struggle.

RE: Draconian Ties - Baratheon - Dec 31 2016

As the deer fled from him he felt the primal urge within to chase after them, to rip the herd apart and let his Bloodlust take over while he fed himself. There was no else in Polaris that could be caught in the crossfires so why not allow himself the savage joy? The dragon was poised and ready to take after the heard when he heard it. The answering call of another large beast. Did he dare hope that it was another dragon? He'd not seen another one of his kind since the great beast, Raheerah. He remembered the battle that took place in this very room, the battle where he'd briefly lost himself.

He shook the memories away, now was not the time to be dwelling on the past. It was time to move on and anticipate what this new meeting could perhaps bring. Would it be something good? Or would it be something bad? That was what lead him not to leave his place from the Spire and just scan the area with his pink eyes. Down near the river he could see a massive shape moving towards him. This one was not nearly as large as Raheerah had been and even did seem to be at an even size with him but they were still huge. Their body was black and seemed to be dripping some sort of slime. Baratheon's head cocked to the side as he watched them approach with first one eye and then the other like an inquisitive lizard. The features about them... they were different but that shape was undeniably draconian. The beast held massive wings that it used to help walk, they had a long tail, and an eyeless head that sat upon an elegant neck.

Some might find the strange dripping slime, the eyeless head, and the way that it opened its mouth to reveal a sparkling red gem --or what he thought was a gem-- to be disgusting or perhaps unappealing... But Baratheon found it all to be interesting, perhaps even beautiful in its own way. After all, if this was a dragon then their differences was what made them unique and powerful. Who was this stranger? He hoped a friend, he would like to get to know them and learn because for so long he'd lived alone and thought that he was the only one of his kind. He never knew that he would miss something he never had.

The body of his fellow dragon seemed to convulse and change shape as they neared, spikes forming and moving like the skin was its own living creature. His head straightened out as he scanned the other's form and finally after a pause where he had to find his words he asked, "Friend or foe, Dragon?" Friend, he hoped, but he figured he should get the question out of the way first. Why bother being entranced or excited if this new dragon would just be a chaos-bringer like the old? Depending on the answer he would respond accordingly. Dragon or not he would not have another Raheerah wreaking havoc on the lives within the caves.

RE: Draconian Ties - Nox - Dec 31 2016

Despite this being her aim, Equinox still seemed caught off guard when they spoke. She visibly flinched, tilting her head back so that she could examine them with red-tinted vision through her gem. "U-uh, friend," she stammered back at them in her gurgling tone, her stomach doing flips in her belly. "D-dragon? I... Isss that what you... you... we... are? I... Isss that what you think I am?" She tried to mull over her words enough that they would seem planned, and eloquent, but she wan't one for fancy wording. Her own accent was very different to what was standard in the caves, having almost an alien vibe. Even now she sometimes struggled to understand what others were saying. Not often, but sometimes.

"I'm Nox," she continued, trying to stand tall and brave before this enormous creature. It was one of the first times her appearance had been greeted without shock or fear. So why was it that all of a sudden she felt like she was being eyed up by a hungry monster? "E-Equinox. You don't need to call me in full."

She came to the sudden realization that this wasn't the smartest of ideas. Talking really wasn't her forte, after all.

She considered stretching out her neck, to be closer to them- but wondered if that would be too much. Instead she simply stood, stock-still, watching them with her jaws parted only slightly to try and hide her eye. For some reason, it'd never really bothered her that she was staring, until now. Suddenly she felt like everything she was doing was wrong somehow. But it wasn't like she had the innate ability to blink, unlike other creatures. In her case, blinking was rather obtrusive.

Should she be doing more?

She had no idea. She tried desperately to calm herself, her skin gradually settling into a less frantic texture, looking almost scaled for once. Slime was beginning to pool around her paws now, trickling down the bank back the way she'd come.

RE: Draconian Ties - Baratheon - Dec 31 2016

Baratheon's eyes never left the form of the strange black dragon below him so when he spoke and they visibly flinched the white dragon's eyes seemed to soften. Was this one young? Were they timid? Or a combination of both? With this new information he could anticipate what their answer was going to be before she even said it. Though when they spoke with a gurgling female voice, that matched that of their, appearance he gave a soft nod of his head. "No... I don't think." A the smallest of smiles tugged at his muzzle while his voice was laced with just a tinge of amusement. "I know. You are like me." With that spoken, he opened his wings wide and arched his neck while his gaze dropped from her to the ground before her. He seemed to calculate the distance for a moment before leaping from the spire and gliding down to the ground right before the other dragon.

Baratheon now stood in front of her, head high as he looked at her. It wasn't often that he could stand his full height and look someone straight in the face. Often everyone else was much smaller than he was and this was a welcome change. His voice rumbled thoughtfully as he answered, "Equinox." He knew he didn't have to call her full name but he just wanted to speak it and get used to it before using the shortened version. "I am Baratheon... Or if we're giving nicknames you can call me Bara or Theon, if you prefer." When his friends were living that's what they did so he supposed she could too, especially if he were to be calling her by one.

Now he fell silent as he looked her over in the closer proximity. Pink roved over her form again, noting the liquid substance pooling around her paws and the slenderness at which her body seemed to be made. Then, he stepped forward slowly with his head extending out, aiming to close the distance and hopefully touch his muzzle to hers gently. It was a simple gesture of greeting, one that came naturally to him and that he would do now because of their similarity.

"Nox. It has been a long time since I've seen another of my kind, the first time I ever laid eyes on another dragon was cycles ago and that particular dragon was a Chaos-Bringer. The next was in my own son who is now long gone." His muzzle retreated but he allowed the distance between them to remain the same while a smile formed on his face. "I can honestly say that it is a pleasure to finally meet one of my kind who brings light and not darkness." Oh, how he'd dreamed of this day but he never dared hope it would actually come true. Sure, there might differences between them but to him that didn't matter, what did matter was the similar ties that bonded them.

RE: Draconian Ties - Nox - Jan 01 2017

Equinox felt her heart racing as their words responded to her questions, and she opened her jaws in the ghost of a smile. She'd finally discovered what she was, it seemed, but it felt... far too easy. Nerves gripped he, but she told herself to calm down. This was what she'd wanted for so long, wasn't it? to find someone else like her. But somehow, this didn't feel quite as she'd imagined it. She felt that this dragon was great, and old, and wise, but they didn't drip slime like she did. Perhaps she was selfish for thinking so, but... was she really the only one in the cave whose mere traces were this dangerous? "Can you... control your ssslime?" she asked hesitantly, figuring that if they were indeed the same beast, they'd be able to at least see where she was coming from.
"Isss everyone afraid of you, too?"

She opened her beak and looked out at them as she heard a noise, and watched them moving down towards her like some kind of great, winged cat. Equinox retreated slightly, making them enough room to stand by her. With them standing before her, Equinox felt like she was small again... it had been some cycles since anyone else had towered over her and longer still since anyone had been able to properly her eye-to-eye. Or eye-to-mouth as it may have been, at least... The draconian being subconsciously stretched out her neck so that they were truly and perfectly eye level to one another.

Equinox had so many things she wanted to ask, but she stopped herself with a nervous gurgle growing in her throat. "Baratheon?" it was such a grand and noble name, perfect for the dragon it belonged to. "I-it sssuitss you!"

She noticed them beginning to move their muzzle forward, and a texture rippled over her once more. She closed her eye and arched her neck away over her back with a tiny shake of her head. "Sssorry..." she murmured shamefully. "You can't touch me. You'll cover yourself in thisss..." she finally opened her jaws again and looked at them to make sure they weren't going to keep trying.

"A Chaos-bringer?" she asked, looking confused but interested. What had they done to earn that title? She'd never met anyone who she'd call a chaos-bringer...Or perhaps it was simply her language skills failing her. She looked around, as though expecting to see this 'chaos bringer' dragon oozing out of a wall. But then again, as they continued, they described her as bringing light, to which she turned back towards them and simply stared at them a little disbelievingly, unsure of how to appropriately respond. "I don't think I'm wholly a bringer of light. There's a lot about me that I jussst can't control... and Gemboundsss are usually too afraid to let me prove myssself..."

RE: Draconian Ties - Baratheon - Jan 01 2017

Questions, it seemed she had many questions to ask which he would be happy to answer. No doubt the black dragon must be confused to no end to find out that she was something that she knew nothing about. "No. I do not control slime." Said with some amusement. "However, I control --or rather, it sometimes controls me-- something called the Bloodlust. It makes me... ah, lose myself at the smell of blood. With age I have learned to somewhat control it but not always." Ah, the Bloodlust. A thing that had plagued him since he had been but a hatchling. It caused him to make enemies, to destroy lives, to sow irreparable damage... He wished he could go back in time to change some things but he knew he never could. He could only keep moving forward and hope to control himself even more with time. "I tell you this because I believe our different traits are what make us unique as dragons. If we were all the same how would their be any diversity? We have the same basic anatomy but what we breathe and our different talents, that's what makes us unique amongst ourselves." He hoped he explained well enough... He knew in his heart of hearts that they were the same and though outwardly they might manifest their elements in different ways he knew that didn't change what was on the inside. "I never learned to control my Bloodlust as a younger dragon, I hurt many gems, and as a result many gembounds feared and hated me. Times have mostly changed but with my size and appearance it's only natural that some still have fear. It's up to us to change their preconceptions and hopefully with time they won't react first with fear." He knew very well how intimidating he could be but he usually wanted not to strike fear into others. Not unless he felt like they deserved it.

Baratheon chuckled at her exclamation of his name, "Thank-you. Yours suits you as well." Truly it did, her named reminded him of something dark and with her darkened hide it couldn't be more fitting.

Her sudden reaction at him attempting to touch her caused him some confusion but when she explained he nodded, understanding what she meant. He wondered though just as he had to learn to control certain aspects of himself if she would ever be able to control her own or if it was something that couldn't be tamed. The large beast was curious though he didn't attempt to pry, if she wanted to pursue that sort of education further then she would likely ask on her own. Until then he would respect her wishes and not get the dark slime all over himself.

Her next words had him letting out a thoughtful rumble as he pondered over what exactly he wanted to say until finally he opened his maw and began. "You have brought light to me. Where I thought I was alone you came and showed me that I wasn't, for that you will always be known to me as a bringer-of-light. As for control there are always ways to learn more about yourself and attempt to control what can be dangerous. Take time, learn yourself and then once you have you can show others that you are not to be feared. But first... you must prove this to yourself. Confidence, it is key." He turned his head to the side, examining her with a single pink eye. "Others might see you as scary because you are different but it is up to you to show them that different does not have to be bad."

RE: Draconian Ties - Nox - Jan 03 2017

Equinox hung her head slightly, closing her jaws. If the other dragon couldn't control slime, how were they the same kind of creature at all. However, she raised her head and fixed them with her gaze once more as Baratheon continued to talk about a curse of his own. she listened intently her skin rippling as they told of the bloodlust they possessed... and couldn't help but feel she was glad that wasn't her problem. "I... don't have anything like that, but..." She took a moment to pause, and make sure that she wanted to speak of this. She'd only told Tukluk about her slime's properties, so far... but this older dragon has spilled all of his secrets, and so far this wise old creature had very much helped her feel comfortable. Perhaps it was because beneath their dramatically different exteriors, dragons' all faced their own personal challenges, and that's what made them so powerful and wise. At least, that would seem to be the case with Baratheon. With a soft rumble, Equinox decided to put a voice to her own personal curse; having to refuse his greeting, also gave him the right to know. "...It'ssss thisss ssslime. Thisss isss what makess me so afraid. I don't have much in the way of magic, but even the ssslightest sssparkss make my ssslime catch alight... and explode. I cannot control it. There'sss nothing I can do to put it out, either... Not long ago, I almossst destroyed Eridanus, the entire forest. Asss it isss now, much of the foresst hass gone up in sssmoke."

Her rasping, hissing voice that struggled with her words as though her lengthy speech was a tonguetwister. Upon falling silent, a whistling sigh of relief escaped her sharp beak. However, it wasn't to last as she continued. "I've hurt Gems with this too. I can't control thiss, it isssn't jussst in where I am, either... Wherever I walk, I leave a trail. A dangerousss one." Equinox backed away from Baratheon so that she could turn around, looking back at the path she'd walked, glistening with inky blackness. and then, down at her feet, where droplets from her chin were quickly plopping into the pool that had gathered beneath her.

A soft gurgle of appreciation emerged from her chest as the older dragon commented on her name. She'd chosen it soon after learning to speak; however, it had only been Nox then. She wondered sometimes if she still preferred it as just that... Nox was definitely the easier one for her to pronounce. Speaking with a hard, round gem and eye in the back of your throat was a problem in and of itself, and definitely not as easy as she made it seem. But then again, she didn't know how visible her struggles really were to others.

Opening her jaws to look at the dragon as he spoke, Equinox felt herself slowly but surely relaxing, bit by bit. As much as she pushed herself to be alone for fear of what she could do, Equinox loved and craved the company of others. And this encounter had only proved to her why. If she felt anything from this, is that she wanted to go out there again and try But the other caves' inhabitants tended to be so small and... probably fragile. At least, they were compared to her. "Can you... help show me the way?" she asked quietly. She knew that this being wouldn't be able to change the way she felt, but so far their words had really resonated within her; and she knew that this was at the very least a step in the right direction. I'm afraid, since I came out of isolation everyone has been so small. When I was young, I wasn't nearly as afraid as I am now. Everyone was so big. I wasn't scared, even though I had no legs or... uh... thesse..." -she turned around in an effort to see the wings that her forelimbs had become- "-But then, I learned that hurting others is out of my control. How can I be confident, when I know that just being in these caves is dangerous? I can't touch anyone, or put out my own fires."

A gurgling sigh echoed.

RE: Draconian Ties - Baratheon - Jan 04 2017

Baratheon waited, not pushing her to confide but hoping that she would want to share so that he could help. Eventually after a rumble, she told him of her own challenge: the slime that coated her body. The dragon peered at her, studying the strange substance that leaked from her and now pooled around her paws. For a moment Baratheon was silent but it was obvious that in his silence he was thinking and pondering on what could help her. "You say you don't have much by the way of magic but have you tried looking into ways to extend your magic? Magic takes many forms and maybe there is a way to control it that way, perhaps a water or an ice spell if a fire breaks out?" It wasn't much but it was something. He hadn't seen how her slime worked yet and could only hypothesize on what would actually help. "Or maybe you have an organic way to control your slime that you haven't tapped into yet. I have found ways to control my Bloodlust over time, perhaps you may learn the same." It sounded like a great dilemma but certainly there could be ways for control. Firstly they could do something about the trail, maybe there could be some way to neutralize it so that it wouldn't catch fire so easily and then maybe they could work on the slime she produced to lessen it. He would have to work it all out.

Her question to him left him feeling... a strange sense of pride. She was opening herself up to him and asking him to help her control what was dangerous about her. There was no way he could refuse that, he wouldn't, she was a kind dragon and he just wanted to help her show it to all those around her what a good spirit she was. "Of course I will, Equinox. I will train you in control. Perhaps we can start in a secluded tunnel away from any other gems... but first there are things I wish to try with this." He motioned with a wing to the slime trail and pondered on one of his own spells if it would work in neutralizing the trail into something less dangerous. "To see if there are ways to turn it into a less hazardous state." He took on a contemplative look before raising his eyes to look at her again.

He didn't dare promise her that he would be able to help her to touch others but he could at least try to give her a bit more confidence in going about the caves. He was all too aware of her situation and where she came from and it was strangely comforting to have someone who knew his own struggles so well. "I understand. Trust me when I say I started just as you did, tiny in the caves with no cares but slowly once I learned of my curse it began to worry me that I would hurt all those that I held dear, I still worry sometimes that I might slip... that someone near me might cut themselves and then I'll lose myself." He shook his head, dispelling the thoughts. "I can't promise you that your problems will be entirely removed but I promise you that I will work my hardest to ensure that you have control of your own abilities and that you can gain your confidence. I will do this for as long as you will have me." Spoken with conviction to show that he was entirely truthful and would do all that he could for her. If only he'd had a mentor or an older dragon to help with his own abilities, he would have certainly appreciated the help then. It was why he was doing this for her now.

RE: Draconian Ties - Nox - Jan 06 2017

Equinox listened quietly to the dragon's words, her jaws closed and eye unseeing as she pondered the words alone, with no other sense to distract her. In response to their question, she gave a slight shake of her head. Was it even possible to learn spells like that? ...She remembered as well, that ice had started the whole Eridanus shenanigan, which brought some hesitation to her mind. That being said, it had been water that had put it out... so perhaps at least trying to figure out a water elemental spell would benefit her. But she still doubted in her own ability; heck, even with fire she could only produce tiny sparks, the true danger lay in her slime. Moreover, were those sparks even magic? In a way, Equinox feared magic too much to get good at it. "Is it... possssible? I only make sssparks. It feelsss like I shouldn't be able to sssummon water... it's too opposite." She sighed another long, gurgling sigh. "Bessssides... I don't even know if my fire isss magic."

She opened her jaws for a moment, then bowed her head in acknowledgement. "I... I'll hope for that," she replied, a shaky smile once more growing as she stood just that little bit taller. The optimism this much older, wiser creature had about not just her abilities, but his own dilemmas in life brought something that other gembounds simply failed to bring. Those that feared her for being different... none of them had ever struggled with these things that could lead to them potentially being their own downfall.

This feeling was only elated by the other agreeing to take her under his wing and train her. Immediately, her grin broadened enough for her to look the dragon in the eye. In her excitement she almost missed his next words, however his gesture towards her slime was not missed- and somehow from this, the older dragon's aim clicked within her- causing her smile to fade slightly as she closed her eye and considered. This dragon was older, infinitely wiser, and had far more experience than she did... but if things went wrong- as they tended to do around her- then she'd never forgive herself.

They continued on, though- and it was becoming increasingly clear just how painfully similar their situations were. Equinox hung her head slightly, only for it to raise again to nod up and down. "You... you can use my ssslime if you want to," she decided finally. "Jusssst... be really, really careful. I won't forgive myssself if something elssse happens. I can't let it... "

The slimy creature felt excitement crawling in her skin for the first time since her childhood. A ripple spread throughout her surface, her chest trembling with a deep and appreciative gurgle.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you ssso much!"
