Lowered Guard - Rinaotei - Jan 27 2017

The surroundings are strange right now... Is this a dream or something? One of those odd moments where Rina just for some reason out of nowhere loses consciousness and stays that way for many cycles trapped in a sudden coma? Cool darkness of non-existence surrounded her at every horizon, and she believes her perception was sharp, and clear as of right now. Hmmmm unsure... Her mind isn't as hazy when it is, when in a dream, it's almost like she's being mind controlled to treat the settings around her as reality, even though if she had full control of her mind, she'd know right away that what is going on in a dream is just that: A Dream. Or maybe it will eventually feel that way when she is out of this dream, when one is under some influence of sorts the moment they snap out of it the memory of it right away starts to vanish. She's had the most extreme dreams before, yet the moment she wakes up only a select few she can remember clearly.

Oh... But are dreams usually this chilly?

Nothing much has taken place from just standing around here, and Rina has grown a little weary of nothing but this black limbo. Slowly she begins to quietly wander in hopes of something new happening here. Just something... Anything.

While walking, she can hear the sound of crunching snow under her paws, along the cold tension that comes with it. This area has snow? Well, that's a nice change, but she doesn't get it... If this limbo was nothing but white instead, then she'd get it, it would mean she's in a heavy blizzard or just a snowy place that's heavily misty. But at the same time if this really is a dream, then she thinks she shouldn't really question it. Besides, even though it's brought questions to her mind, she quite likes the snow, she just wishes she could actually see it.

Unbeknownst to this wolf, she's very much awake and not in a dream, but she has no idea that the cave lights have gone out and things are just too dark for her to see right now. Still with her belief that it's a dream, this normally cautious and distrusting wolf guard has been lowered immensely anything can go for her from here on out if she continues to be oblivious that she is very much in reality right now whether that'll be good or bad for her remains to be seen... Something beneficial could come to her due to this or she may meet a brutish fate.

RE: Lowered Guard - Gabriel - Jan 28 2017

This was the tunnel that Tacitus had told it about; the one that lead to Pisces. Gabriel knew exactly where it was now, and although it planned to turn back soon enough and continue the search for lost stones, the pup had sensed life somewhere beyond the entrance to this tunnel. It decided that in order to not only learn the sights and scents but to let its 'teammates' begin the search ahead of it, it would work in the pup's favour to take a slight detour on the way.

Casting out its senses, Gabriel felt their heartbeat reverberating back towards it, proving that they were out there somewhere. Gabriel kept on moving forward, seeking some other sign.

The echo of a pawstep, snow crunching beneath a heavy paw reached its sensitive ears from quite some distance away. It knew that the other being was distant... that the whispers reaching it were only mere echoes. But it could hear them coming closer, and closer in the darkness.

Gabriel kept on walking too, and it knew that soon, the other was not far away at all. Gabriel settled back on its haunches, waiting for them to cover the last ground between them. Since casting the spell, Gabriel could still feel the disease festering in its belly, bubbling and churning away, its lips whet by the saliva that constantly seemed to leak as though it was always on the verge of throwing up.

And in honesty... it was.

Playing host to a disease in this way was definitely not the best way to treat one's body. And in honesty, Gabriel's hold over its magic was by no means the best. When it came to senses it was easily able to find balance, but when performing any other spell either it did not work at all... or it overshot.

"Hello there! You seem lost." Gabriel called into the darkness, small and childish voice echoing throughout the tunnel like a singsong.

"May I help you?"

RE: Lowered Guard - Rinaotei - Jan 29 2017

Rinaotei's slow stroll continues for a few minutes in slow and careful motions that are spent getting a good look at her surroundings, to catch anything new with her observant eyes. Everything still clad in darkness in every direction, very monotonous and dull to look at, the peaceful solitude is rather nice in a way though. Still Rinaotei is feeling rather impatient and sick of waiting for anything new to come forth in this rather bland dream. So much she started to find herself fantasizing and picking her pace up a little more, while picturing that this endless void is now instead some part of the Caves that is merely plagued by a whiteout that has its own peaceful beauty.

Daydreaming in a dream? Ha ha, that is just so strange, but wow this dream is so lacklustre, Rina needs to dream in her own mind to make it even remotely a bit more interesting. Zero stars dream, would rather have a nightmare from how bland it is. OK, maybe not, probably is a nightmare anyway: it's boring here with nothing new.

With her walking blindly through this place still, she hears splashing sounds and can feel something nippy reach up to her legs. Water? Well, that's her elements, is that what this dream is about or something? Trembling a little at how freezing, she's really starting to feel it now Rinaotei keeps on going to pick the pace up a little more to try and get just a little warmer. Pausing for a moment, the lupine closed her eyes merely taking in the subtle sounds around her and she followed the faint sound of the rippling water underneath her that rested gently on her ears.

Wait, she can hear something else, she can still hear the crunching of snow from afar that are somewhat drowned out by the splashing sounds. But Rinaotei knows her ears aren't playing any chicanery on her, with the splashing sounds being the only other noise here besides the sound of her breathing.

The pitter-patter of another's paws can be heard more clearly now, now she knows for certain that someone else is about to appear before her. And she turned out to be right the moment her temperature got warmer and she no longer heard splashing indicating that she is no longer wading in the water. In her sights she could make out some blur of sorts that stood out in this darkness... Pink is it perhaps? How strange.

The enthusiastic voice that called out to her mildly surprised Rinaotei a little, it was quite a whiplash on this place's atmosphere and mood, daresay uncharacteristic. But they bring a valid point, she is lost in this here place, even though that should be obvious.

"It appears I am. It has come particularly difficult to navigate around here or pinpoint my exact location, with the 'blinding lights' being rather burdensome on my vision." Even in a "dream" Rina's voice is soft and calm, although it blatantly dripped with snarkiness when she says sarcastically says 'blinding lights' to them, at their current situation. Oh, they wish to assist well...

"Sure." Rinaotei just barely managed to stop herself from answering them questionably at their offer to help. She really doesn't get it, but she keeps on reminding herself this is just a dream, just go with the flow and play along.

RE: Lowered Guard - Gabriel - Jan 30 2017

Gabriel smiled slightly, the expression hidden by the darkness enclosed around them. This darkness had turned out to be quite to Gariel's advantage. "Come, then. We aren't far from Orion. I will lead you to the light." The pup began to move away, eager to be out of the freezing cold water. It made sure that its footsteps were quite pronounced so that they would know to follow. "But when we get there, you'll owe me a small favour. A trade, if you will. Is that okay?"

Gabriel's voice softened, its cheerful tone more mellow and calming as it asked permission. It had stopped in its tracks, waiting just a little way away at the edge of the puddle. It was making sure that they followed. "Don't worry, the favour you'll owe will be for the greater good. I'm not looking to harm you." Whether it harmed them or not, was all down to the virus it carried. Its aim no matter what was just assimilation. Turning away from them, Gabriel padded back the way that it'd come, claws clicking against the ground. Although the pup lacked a lot of emotion, it spoke the truth. It would never lie. It did not have sense for general emotional etiquette but it was polite in its request. If the wolf refused then it would simply leave them.

It could feel the sickness in its belly looming, ever hungering, almost as though it knew what was coming. strings of green-tinted drool dripped down to the small dog's chin, uncontrollable. There was a soft sound as a drip hit the ground.

The pup's red eyes glinted in the darkness. "If you will allow me to guide you, follow the sound of my voice. Don't worry. Don't feel. I will lead you to the light."

RE: Lowered Guard - Rinaotei - Feb 04 2017

Rinaotei didn't notice that shift in expression because of one: the darkness, and she really isn't paying attention all that much right now, well not paying attention as much as she usually does with her observant eyes. Wait... Orion? Where's this going? Orion... The place where she always goes into these sudden dreams when she navigates around it. This dream... Appears to possess a specific meaning to it, a meaning she thinks she shouldn't really ignore.

Right now Rina knows not of its meaning, for she is a blind traveller in this unusual scenario, but perhaps things will be better understood if she follows this other one, at both of their own discretion.

...Or maybe she's over-thinking about this really, come now you've had stranger dreams than this, keep on over-thinking all your dreams then you'll may as well always be having nightmares then. Following suit, she too begins her walk again, following the sound of the other being's steps in the form of crunching & clicking sounds as they walked in front of her, gently scraping her claws a little across the ground to make some noise of her own so the one in front knows for certain that Rina isn't falling behind or anything.

Oh, the assistance has a catch to all of this? Thinking to herself almost playfully. Well... It would depend on what they seek from her, she supposes, even though it shouldn't affect her that much if she does say yes, she's certain she's not in reality right now. When Rina couldn't hear anything anymore, she immediately went to a stop and tried to listen out for new sounds, listening intently to what they have to say next. The greater good? She's pretty sure that a favour that shall assist in the greater good is a 'big favour', not a small one. If no harm shall come to her, though then literally it wouldn't hurt to accept, she wants to be free from this endless black void already before it completely kidnaps her.

"Very well then." Accepting their offer very nonchalantly, not realizing what she may potentially be getting herself into, as the quiet walk continues on. It's rather funny, unlike the being here Rinaotei very much can feel emotions, yet because she has such a powerful grip on them, her emotional range is generally very subdued and mellow even on the off times when she's otherwise feeling legitimate anger. If anything else, thanks to this subdued emotional range it makes it easier for her personally to act polite to another.

When she saw what she believes is red gazing at her and heard the being give her the instructions on following them, she nods intently at them, feeling a strong sense of motivation coming to her. For some reason the way they looked at her like that... It feels like she's about to go on some sort of adventure, doesn’t know what kind though.

RE: Lowered Guard - Gabriel - Feb 05 2017

"Very good. Just keep moving, then," Gabriel said softly, soothingly, as it itself began to gently make its way down the tunnel, paws occasionally splashing through chilly puddles. It tried to keep on talking whenever it could, softly murmuring even when the tunnel walls cast echoes back at it, indecipherable.

It kept on moving, and for a while allowed the sounds of its claws clicking against stone to lead the way. Its ears flicked back, making sure that they weren't far behind. Again it paused, looking back, waiting patiently for the creature it guided.

It was beginning to spy a silvery light reflecting on the surface of the moisture on forming shallow pools on the ground around it. Gabriel looked up, its red eyes once again glancing at the creature, who it was beginning to be able to make out, just barely, in the low light.

"Not far now. not far at all..." Gabriel reassured, and then kept on walking. "The tunnel climbs here. Be wary." Gabriel warned, clambering onto a (to it) large rock, and then another- all these together formed a semi-steep incline which would soon open up into Orion, and hopefully- light. The higher Gabriel climbed, the more it could see silvery beams crisscrossing; though where they came from, the pup didn't know.

"Can you see the light? it's a nice change, isn't it?"

RE: Lowered Guard - Rinaotei - Feb 05 2017

A soft hum escapes from Rinaotei in response to all of the clear instructions they have given her, acting accordingly to what she has been told to do Rinaotei was sure to follow behind quickly, not wanting to keep the being waiting for her in catching up. Not to add she chooses not to wait any longer, who knows, maybe when she reaches apparently Orion she'll wake up again. The void was borderline silent, ears picking up the smallest amount of sounds - in this case the crunching sound of the snow from both their hiking across this path, and the occasional soft murmur coming from the one she is following right now. It was all calming sounds to the wolf, consistent as they both penned paw prints on a separate snow path leading to Orion.

Often she took notice of the red gazing at her now and again for a brief second, which is when the sounds stop as well for a bit, which means they really want to ensure that she isn't left behind. Hmm, this makes her rather curious of what they shall do if it appears that she has been left behind by accident. When she saw the crimson looking back at her again made her even more curious of that really, how would they react to that really? Funny enough the darkness seems to be vanishing a little so she can get a better view of them, which means she doesn't entirely need their help in a small radius of her surroundings.

Oh... We're close? Well, if it won't take much longer then it wouldn't hurt to have a touch of little fun in a way. Tunnels? Like a 'light to the tunnel' thing? Heh meanings everywhere. Still, when she watched her now clearer partner climb onto a platform of the sort that's when she decided to sate her curiosity. Perhaps this is rather asinine & undignified of her, they're assisting her, but she really wishes to see their reaction, besides, she'll only do it for a brief moment she isn't going to make them think she completely disappeared on them. She holds her breath and as sneaky as she can, she ducks behind a rock and remains still for a little while not making any noise until the being taken notice that she isn't behind them.

The moment they mentioned about the light she decides she's had her fun and she can make out their reaction while she catches up to them on the climb. Coming out of hiding Rina brings most of her strength to her front paws as she lifts them up and to an extent her whole entire being to the top of the first of the rocks, which to her surprise don't seem slippery. Oh, right. Dream. Due to that, she concludes it won't be risky to jump up at all of them in a swift manner. And so she spends the climbing the rest of this with some rather quick jumps which made the brief journey up a lot quicker to do, sating her hastiness as she reached up next to them in an instant. Light beams stretched and stopped from above the moment she finished her climb this particular light that streamed from above of both of them was weak, but she welcomed the appearance nonetheless.

"Yes, I can. And why yes, it very much is." She answers to them with the subtle purr of sorts in her voice, doesn't know whether it was just the small amusement at her being a little pest for a brief second there or what, or just the relief that she won't be buried in that darkness now.

RE: Lowered Guard - Gabriel - Feb 05 2017

Gabriel heard them following, saw their shape whenever it turned back. That reassured it to keep moving, at least until it had almost reached the top of the slope. At that point, the pup turned back, and found that the wolf was gone. it had been present mere moments before, and Gabriel wondered if it had changed its mind about the favour. Perhaps she was afraid of what awaited her at the journey's end. But there was no going back now.

"Are you afraid? There's no need to be." Gabriel said softly. Their lives, after all, were pointless in the end. if you died, you could become stronger. In addition to that, no-one was fated to live forever. In theory, at least... no matter how long it took, something would eventually go wrong. Sickness would catch you, relations would turn, food or water would suddenly grow scarce.

There was no point in being afraid.

Just as Gabriel began to cast out its senses and search for them, the larger creature reappeared again, slipping out from behind a rock a short way down the tunnel. Clearly, it had realized its mistake. They had agreed to return the favour, after all. It didn't cross Gabriel's mind that they had meant it as some kind of joke, so it simply stood in the light and watched them approach until they were clambering up beside it. Gabriel took the final step, pulling itself up so that it was able to gaze out into the fallen city of Orion. It looked down at them, eyes shining red in the same silvery light reflecting on the drool that coated its furless chin and neck.

"We're here. It's time for me to reclaim that favour."

Gabriel gently sat back on its hind limbs, showing that it would not make a move until given permission.

"You are to stay where you are. I've created inside me something that will help our kind learn, bringing them to all new heights. But I have yet to find someone who can demonstrate to me exactly what it does." its eyes flashed, looking to the large wolf imploringly. "Will you do that? Will you carry this gift, and let me learn from it?"

Gabriel opened its jaws slightly, a string of frothy saliva connecting its tiny white fangs.

RE: Lowered Guard - Rinaotei - Feb 05 2017

When she was fooling around, she watched their reaction carefully curious as to what it shall be. She ducked a little more when she saw that they turned back once again, they seem to quietly search for her whereabouts with just their eyes. Afraid? No, not in the slightest, guess that would be another way to interpret what she was doing instead of something like she was playing a small prank of sorts. Not really the reaction she expected, then again, that's the purpose of doing this: To sate her curiosity instead of just playing what she thinks might potentially happen in her head.

Completely calm... Intriguing and impressive. The way they say it though it's like this dream is not really giving her the choice, she must continue on with this.

When she did reappear to them, Rinaotei truly did have a clearer view of them, they looked like a canine just like her but their body shape doesn't appear wolf in particular. Dog perhaps? Nevertheless, she follows them to the last leg of this brief journey till she was right next to them, prepared to do whatever this favour this is they want her to do. Seems like the only way this odd dream will end is if she follows along with its story, and so perhaps when she does this favour she'll wake again. Doesn't know what Orion has to do with all of this though. Looking down at said weather-beaten city that still has some light within it so she can see it just a little bit.

Taking her eyes off this world's version of Orion when the being spoke to her again, she turns her whole being towards them, standing perfectly straight as she listened to what they have said to her. Surprisingly even though she is small for a wolf this other canine is smaller than her, well if they are dog then makes sense she's pretty sure wolves are always larger than dogs. Looks like neither wish to wait around, as she watches them sit down, she observes them rather analytically with her azure eyes as Rinaotei stares down at the dog being, remaining quiet till they decide to tell her what this supposed 'small' favour is.

Stay still? That's all? But she wonders what exactly is this 'gift'? This is really sounding like some sort of experiment of sorts. If this was reality then she'd probably reject doing this, but she still believes she's in a dream world besides, since she doesn't realize that the other being is also a Gembound she has some doubts that whatever it is considering those two assumed factors that it should be fine. Seems like she truly needs to cooperate anyway to all of this, not to add she already said yes to them in exchange for help.

She is confused when they open their mouth, what are they going to cough something up like lots of things do in dreams? Revolting somewhat, but oh well, just go with the flow. She silently nods at them, and gives them a signal with her head to go on, they have her permission. What she doesn't know this may or may not end well for her... But Rinaotei is too buried in the belief that she is dreaming to actually know this...

RE: Lowered Guard - Gabriel - Feb 08 2017

Gabriel listened for a response for the wolf, but they were silent; too silent. But Gabriel knew that they'd agreed before their journey had begun; their body was ripe and ready to play the host. Gabriel was excited to finally be able to discover exactly what its magic could do, it was the first time it'd have a true test subject.

"Are you ready to receive my gift?" Gabriel murmured, softly and respectfully, gazing at them intently as it gave them one last chance to try to back out. It didn't matter, either way... it was still going to reclaim that favour. "Then let's begin."

The pup slowly got to its paws, moving towards them with slow steps. It stared at them for a moment longer, and then opened its slavering, hairless maw. It lapped some of the moisture from its lips, and then tried to sink its small, bacteria-coated fangs into one of her forelegs.
