The Tiny Chrysalis - Arba - Mar 05 2018

ARBA

You couldn't blame someone for missing the Chrysalis.

It was absolutely tiny, only about half as big as a house-cat's head. It was oddly colored, a dull brown like a deer's pelt, but dotted with little white spots, like a fawn. One could reasonably think that the life within was dead, as there was little to no movement, nor any sound.

And then, suddenly, if one listened very, very closely, they'd be able to make out an odd little 'clicking' sound, as though teeny, tiny nails were tapping at the chrysalis.

That was the only warning they would get, before the bottom of the chrysalis would give out, a hole appearing. The back-half of a creature would drop out, coming out to its hips, revealing wriggling and kicking legs, and a sparsely furred rat-like tail.

"I'm speaking..."
'I'm thinking...'

Aurora grumbled, roaming around Polaris. She loved this room, but it was getting boring. And she wanted to leave. But she didn't yet. ANd it was a good thing too. He ears picked up on a tiny crack a few feet away, and she had to carefully scan her surroundings before spying the cracked chrysalis. It was so tiny!

But where was its inhabitant? Aurora padded over to the chrysalis, now seeing a small furry tail and the haunches of a small creature. So tiny! It was adorable. Aurora unsheathed her claws and carefully squeezed one under the chrysalis opening, between the creature and the rock. Then she jerked it upwards quickly, breaking the chrysalis the rest of the way.

”I'm Aurora. Who are you little thing? Also, welcome to the world.“ She purred cheerfully, sitting down and waiting for a response.

The little creature kicked its hind legs, trying to find purchase beneath its tiny feet. But, it seemed, there was none to be found, and all it could do was squirm. It almost looked like it was swimming, with the rhythmical movements of her hind legs, ugly tail twitching frantically.

Suddenly, something pressed against her, and then she was hitting the ground. The Quoll shook herself off, attempting to shake the dampness off of her fur. She turned to look up at Aurora, not seeming to be bothered in the least by their size difference, or that Aurora could eat her in a single gulp. "I am Arba. And I am not small, you are simply big." she huffed.

Aurora laughed at the tiny thing. It certainly had some sass.
”You are most definitely small, Arba. I am smaller than most creatures in the cave. I would go as far as to say you are adorably tiny.“ The cat purred amusedly. The serendipity that the quoll had must have been great, as had the cat not stumbled upon the other Gembound, it might have been eaten because it was so tiny and resembled a mouse. However, she didn't say anything, not wanting to frighten the small thing.

The Quoll, hearing Aurora laugh at it, bristled, ears flattening against its skull. She puffed up, fur standing on end, eyes glistening darkly. ADORABLE?! She was not adorable, not in any way, shape, or form! Arba would show this... this beast!

"Adorable!? How dare you, I am not adorable! And who is to say you are not all big, and I am normal?" she hissed, glowering up at Aurora.
